Korg SQ-1 As A USB MIDI To CV Converter 

Exactly what I was looking for: Cubase12pro ---> SQ-1 ---> MS20 classic ! 😁

I'm on the same boat. Wathever I change, it doesn't work on my Sonoma using different DAW's. Have you solved it yet?

works on live 2. is there way to use both channels? a for voice one b for voice 2 with an ms 20 mini?

Yes, you can, if you have a usb midi host device (it can be your phone with a midi routing app)

I've gotten it to work with my SH-101. I think I had to change the voltage scale, though. (To 1 Hz?)

Thomas Brown The 0 Coast will get MIDI notes stuck if you have a certain type of MIDI sequencer, such as a algorithmic MIDI sequencer. It happens to me all the time, and I was very upset because there is literally nothing you can do to stop notes from hanging on the 0 Coast... except this solution, to play the 0 Coast using a MIDI to CV converter. I wrote to Make Noise and they said, "It's your sequencer." Then I wrote to the maker of the sequencer and they said, " It's the Make Noise!" And guess what, it's the Make Noise 0 Coast that has this problem. None of my other synths hang notes as bad as the O Coast. Imagine going in a deep meditative state with the 0 Coast, then out of nowhere the 0 Coast hangs the highest pitch note every 2 minutes.

Joe Defranco I'd suggest trying a powered USB hub. Might be something funky with the unit or your computer USB ports. Depends on the computer really.

Yes anything is possible. Its a mac mini ...there is a powered hub but I think that the power part is where part of the problem is...it could be poorly isolated or regulated or shielded or whatever.The interesting part is that the more STEPs that are engaged on the SQ-1 the more noise or whine is generated

@ilfn sks I find this question confusing because "CV cutoff" doesn't make sense to me. "Cutoff" generally refers to the filter cutoff frequency. "CV" means control voltage and that can be used for any CV input available on the synth. If you're asking whether an SQ-1 CV output could be connected to a CV input for filter cutoff the answer is yes it possible to do that.

When using it as an interface with your DAW, there are no limitations in that regard. No pattern length limitations!

It’s really 0-1, 2 or 5 volts switchable, and quantize-able. You can always run it without the sequence as a usb midi cv interface, that is another bit of value added for sure. It’s a no brainer for the price!

Voltage Control Lab yes but ARPs and Moogs need to have -5v as its lowest signal, unlike modulars and other synths that use 0v as its baseline, I’m wondering if it would be able to control an OG ARP Odyssey or Minimoog

I would think so... does it have 1/8” ins for pitch and gate cv? If not, you could probably hack a cable that would work. I love the volcas but I haven’t spent much time with the modular one!

@@voltagecontrollab cv in, no pitch. so i'm controlling tempo from my daw with the sync out of another midi connected synth but being able to send midi directly to the modular would be a game changer. someone was selling the cables you mention but has ceased doing so now

@@davidcunningham9282 the Volca Modular takes in both the CV and the Gate signals via its CV-IN mini-jack socket. Use a TRS splitter cable. The red connector will be for the CV in, and the black (or white) connector will be for the Gate in. You can then connect those signals using the Modular's connector wires.

It’s becomes an 8 step sequence, still fully useable from the cv a outputs!

@@voltagecontrollab But the CV A output is sending the incoming MIDI signal, no?

@@artao5 in my tests the sequence overrides the USB-MIDI to CV conversion. So, it acts either as a converter or as a sequencer with the sequencer taking priority.

Daniel D'Arcy I doubt it, since the sq1 requires USB to receive midi data. Might be able to get it to work the other way though, syncing the mpc to the sq1...

Not directly. But if you rout the midi from the MPC500 to computer first, then from computer to the SQ-1, it should work.
