Great tutorial! Do you think the Triton is worth owning if you already have the M1? They seem almost identical in terms of their design/UI (to the point where I feel like this video could almost double as an M1 tutorial), but presumably there's something that justifies it being double the price! Is that just down to the quality of the waveforms/presets? Currently going back and forth between buying this versus some of the Roland plugins you showed off in your previous video :)
@djshire1984
@djshire1984 8 месяцев назад
Think of the Triton as the M1 5 (or 6?), the later sequel workstation. As far as I know, the Triton contains a ton of the sounds from the M1 and its follow-ups. I do not know whether or not this is modelled in the M1 and the Triton, but the M1 is more "lo-fi" in it's soundset compared to the Triton.
@Thought-Forms
@Thought-Forms 8 месяцев назад
I think so! M1 is the first incarnation of the "workstation" from Korg, as DJshire mentioned, think of the Triton as the M1 6. 10 years of improvements to the core M1. The architecture at a high level is nearly identical (Programs / Combis) - but there are nuances in some of the rest (FX architecture, Arp, filters, etc..) The Triton has more sounds in it of higher quality, M1 way more lofi. Early Korgs had this dark "breathy" character (M1), whereas I found Korg stuff after 1996 (Trinity, Triton) had a much brighter / whispy tone. Great compliments. Some sample bank content is shared between the two.

Unfortunately the presets are useless and boring. Like on most synths. You have to program the synth to get the best. This one is definitely boring. I hardly use it from the collection.

Well this video just cost me $100 😅 I actually always wanted a Triton during my Hip Hop/RnB phase in the 2000s but never could afford to get one, so this is a great way to finally get my hands on one! Part of me wants the M1 VST too, but that’s purely for nostalgic reasons as my Dad had one in the house from when they came out. Way before I had any idea what they were all about.
@Thought-Forms

$100 well spent! I think the base level 61-key was a hair over $2000 when it came out back then, crazy! Such an iconic synth, and they did it right with the VST. Enjoy :) (also highly recommend the M1 VST, that's straight rompler history)

Much appreciated! I've been studying the everliving hell out of the Triton (both VST and the OG rack unit) for the past few years - and noticed the same. So much potential in the unit and the VST manual is a little light - you really have to read the original manual to get the full context - and that OG manual reads like a 500 page bible LOL. It's a rather simple instrument once you get the basics down. Have a 201 vid coming soon to go over drums / drum kits and some other stuff. Have fun!

Thanks for the video!!! This was the missing link in my VST collection. I bought the Maschine Mikro and got heavily invested into the Native Instruments space and started purchsing the Expansions and several of the Maschine instruments. They're all pretty good but when it came to song creation, I just couldn't find the sounds I was used to having when I owned a Roland XP-50 and the XP-30. The digital pianos, the simulated guitars, nylon, jazz, distorted...those tine pianos and electric piano sounds. Then I started to see these VST's that sampled the MKS module, then I saw Spectrasonic's Keyscape, that's when I started to realize those sounds I wanted were all living inside the keyboard workstations of the 90's!!! I bought the Gospel Musicians MKSensation Xtreme and it was pretty good but when I saw the Korg Triton on sale, I grabbed it without hesitating. I got the Triton Bundle that includes sounds from the Triton, plus the expansion modules and the Korg Triton Extreme which has even more sounds and expansions. I've had this for over a month and I haven't even scratched the surface on the number of sounds that are included!! I'm still browsing the Factory modules, honestly it's almost too much. I honestly regret purchasing the GM MKSensation because the Korg Bundle was all I needed. All those dynamic layered pianos with pads and most importantly all of the pre-baked synth sounds without having to configure and tweak a synth. You want that Oberheim synth that sounds exatly like Van Halen's Jump it's there without having to tweak it. Another great thing is it loads fast and doesn't eat up a lot of cpu. Loads into Ableton quickly and is nice and responsive. Best purchase I've made VST wise. I figure if I get that Keyscape, that will be all I need creatively.
@Thought-Forms
@Thought-Forms 7 месяцев назад
Of course friend! The XP-50/30's were awesome!!! It's my belief (and as you sort of found out) that these sounds really come down to the technology limitations of the 90s & how things were put together. Even modern workstations don't hit like these old ones....I got a Korg Krome EX and returned it a few weeks later...it just doesn't have that same charm. Great for some people, but for those of us looking for those older-esque sounds it's a bummer. The Triton VST has EVERYTHING, tons & tons of sounds, all instantly capturing that vibe. To your point, it runs great too! If you enjoyed the Roland stuff back in the day, definitely go check out some of the Roland VSTs as well, they have a JV-1080/5080 that is faithful and accurate

One thing that is useful with this vst is it is easy to extract drum sample loops from it's many patterns. Grab the pattern and then just freeze the track and save the sample. The concept of Programs and Combis actually predates the M1 as well. Combis started, I think, with the DS-8, which was 8-part multitimbral. Of course, the DS-8 was also limited to 8 voices, so the multitimbrality was sometimes less than useful.

@Thought-Forms
@Thought-Forms 8 месяцев назад
In the hardware days, the Extreme added a bunch of the EXB expansions out of the box, had a faster touch screen UI, and added the "Valve Force" tube amplifier to saturate your sounds. In the VST variant, it just adds a new VST skin & gives you an emulation of that "valve tube" which can be turned on or off. If you buy the Triton VST you should get both versions too

@@Thought-Formsthe Korg M50 is a great keyboard and got me into the fantastic sounds of Korg! In comparing the M50 with the Triton VST many of the sounds are of similar quality, although I will say some of the M50’s sounds are more vibrant and lush, but the Triton VST has more sound choices overall and once I get the hang of the IFX should be able to enhance the sounds more. I’ve actually been using the M50 as a glorified sound module playing through my Yamaha 88 key weighted digital piano (I could only afford the 61 key version of the M50 at the time and prefer playing on weighted keys). @@Thought-Forms Actually you can buy the plugins without the DAW for a more reasonable price, so you can use them in other DAWs like Ableton, Cubase, Pro Tools, etc. That's why I find them interesting. But I'm affraid of ending up buying many of the instruments two times if I buy both, the Collection 4 and the Gadget plugins.

It's got some great sounds, but I hate the navigation. M1 feels way more user-friendly.

The M1 has some nice QOL functionality, especially on the easy page (the linking/chaining: being able to control OSC1 and OSC2 filter settings at the same time) - though to be fair, it is a much simpler synth in general which helps

Do you know if it could receive SysEx like the phisical Triton?
@Thought-Forms
@Thought-Forms 11 дней назад
Sadly it does not. Hoping they update it to support sysex and/or PCG imports

@@Thought-Forms thank you very much. I will take another approach for reprogramming scenes, since I used SysEx with my X50. A thing I noticed is that standalone version could receive bank/program changes from MIDI, but not VST version. Could you confirm me this?

Was the $99 only temporary? I see that it’s back up to $149 : (

It was just for Black Friday, but looking on Pluginbotique, it looks like it's still on sale as of right now. Triton is $99, Korg Collection is $199

The mono/poly VST is pretty solid! But you need some sweep rompler sounds too :)

@Thought-Forms I did have rizer or some sweep/riser plug in but it doesn't operate on my current OS so it's like... waste of 20$.

When I browse through the sounds In fl studio they don’t play
@Thought-Forms

Is this the Programs / Combinations you're referencing inside of the browser? Or when selecting an oscillator sound inside a program?

@@Thought-Forms yes it’s the combi and programs browser selection I’m referring to, I browse through the presents and they only play when I tap the top of the VST…

@@Thought-Forms I just bought the bundle no pirate or anything like that….Wavestation does something similar too…if I tap into the preset and miss an actual parameter it will make a block noise, then I have to click the top of the vst again to go back to normal …Korg M1 is the only vst out the bundle that doesn’t give me those problems…I’m still learning the softwares so hopefully it’ll come together prolly gotta email tech support….thanks for your response

Worst VST ever, and Korg's support sucks. The best way to use this VST is to record it via audio and then use it in your daw. The problems I have is it constantly changing the octave that the sound is played in. I totally regret getting the Legacy 4 collection, big waste of money, the Triton and the triton extreme both do not work properly tons of glitches. The original Legacy 3 collection is awesome but Legacy 4 better off spending it on some other big name vst
