The Triton Rack is powerful, well-loved, great sounding, and now an economical sound module legend. Popular recording artists all over the world use the unit live, and in the studio, producing sounds on tons of hit records. This Rack module is even more expandable, and potentially more effective than the keyboard version itself. Watch this video now to see how incredible this sound module\sample is, how to manage it, and why I use the Korg Triton Rack. *Check out Part 2 of this presentation, "Korg Triton Rack Expandable HI Module/Sampler: Overview of the Modes - Part 2" on this channel. For a sound demo, watch "Korg Triton Rack Expandable HI Module/Sampler: Sound Demo - Part 3" on this channel (Link: • Korg Triton Rack Expan... ). #KorgSoundModules #KorgSynthesizers #Korg

Really like my Triton Rack it provides my general midi type sounds in my studio. It came with the Orchestral boards installed and 96mb ram. I have the USB floppy installed and a SCSI2SD board. I really love the dual arpeggiators they are possibly my favourite feature and unlike the VST version they have user assignable storage space also they are able to control external kit. If for some reason the sound stopped working I would keep it just for the arpeggiators. The twenty three year old LCD is now showing it's age with lines appearing on the screen and I think I might replace it with a brand new LED display, I did this for my Akai Z4.

Got my Korg Triton Rack in 2000. Due to life events, it was racked and stored for the past 20 years and forgotten. This unit was powered-on twice that I can remember. I found the power cord, turned it on and WOW! I setup midi and recorded tracks onto my DAW PT. Yes, I have tons of questions. I joined your group and would like to re-introduce the Korg Triton Rack in my studio family of gear again.😂

The Triton Rack had 60 notes of polyphony with an extra 6 notes if the MOSS board is added. Roland released the XV3080 and XV5080 at around the same time that had more than double the polyphony at 128 notes and much improved acoustic sounds, particularly guitars, basses and drums. Saying that, Korg and Roland sounds complimented each other very well and I enjoyed using just my fully maxed out Triton Classic and XV3080 to produce entire songs using nothing but those two instruments and the Triton internal sequencer that was excellent. A big limitation of the original Triton's sampler was its lack of internal resampling which was added to the subsequent Triton Studio and Triton Extreme released in 2002 and 2004 respectively. Your video is excellent. Keep up the great work.

Made so much great music with the HR-16 you have back in the day and then 61 key triton I installed an external 5 gig hard drive which was a lot back then and could hold a big library with sweetwater hardware. Korgs architecture told me right away I was going to be a korg and kurzweil guy for the love of programming. great gear there!

The Korg Triton Rack was the primary sound module in my studio for virtually a decade prior to the purchase of my Roland Integra-7. I fully expanded my Triton Rack over time, which made it powerful. After I released the Roland Integra-7 video on this channel, some folks asked about alternatives because the Integra-7 can be expensive, and they were not fans of software plugins. I wanted to share this information because the Triton Rack can be a very potent and economical solution. For a sound demo, watch "Korg Triton Rack Expandable HI Module/Sampler - Part 3: Sound Demo" on this channel (Link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P6hXIe_Fpk4.html). It’s been said, “Ain’t nothin’ like the real thing”, so I hope this video serves useful.

First, I'd like to say that I think your videos a GREAT. Why do you like to use for the most realistic piano sound and weighted 88-key controller? I, personally like the Yamaha Motif XS rack piano, which I use a Roland RD-7000 as the controller for. They seem to work very well together. I do like the Nord piano sounds, but the keys seem a little clumsy for high-end technical playing.
@PowercoatMusic
@PowercoatMusic 4 года назад
Thanks for the kind words, they are much appreciated. For years I have used the Akai MPK88 keyboard controller. I got an unbelievable deal on the unit at that time and it’s been a solid, reliable and very flexible main controller for my studio ever since. I love the hammer action on this unit, but my daughter who is a pianist, says the action is too heavy compared to a piano. I guess what I like is my preference, though it may not be 100% accurate in this case. You setup is a nice one as well and definitely more than gets the job done. It’s good when you are able to find the “sweet spot” here, as it just boosts the creativity all the more.

One of the problems with the Triton and many other Korg pcm based machines is the sample loop points. Both my Triton rack, and my Korg SP280 suffer from this, as did my 05r/w, I guess with Triton it's a compromise as for the rest it's a very powerful machine.

Awesome video - Really appreciate it. You mention you maxed out the memory which was cheap to do, and then go on to mention the "Sound boards" I can find easily the sim chips you mention for a good price, but not the sound boards. Did you download the sounds online then load onto the sim chips you purchased for around $20?
@PowercoatMusic
@PowercoatMusic 4 года назад
The EDO SIM chips (around $12 now) are for expanding the internal memory of the unit for faster processing and sampling only just like a PC. The sound boards are different, and add totally new sample banks to the device. Sound boards come with the samples/sounds burned on them (ROM), you don’t need to download them. They have a floppy disk that has all the default setting for initialization in the Triton Rack. I hope this information helps.
@PowercoatMusic
@PowercoatMusic 4 года назад
In the Korg Triton Rack, the EDO SIM chips DO NOT function as permanent storage like an ssd, usb and or hard drive. They serve as an additional processing resource for the device’s CPU. I believe I understand what you’re asking, and here are 2 solutions to your challenge: 1. Purchase and install a Korg Triton SCSI card. This will allow you to add a SCSI hard drive to your Triton. With this, you can then store all new sound samples and multi-samples to that external SCSI hard drive and have them available whenever you need them in through the Triton. Search for “Korg SCSI card for Triton Keyboard Rack” on eBay. 2. Purchase and install a USB floppy drive for the Trition to replace the floppy disk. With this, you now use USB storage sticks instead of floppy disks. This will dramatically increase storage and allow you to achieve the same results as #1, and save money. That’s what I’m going to do with mine. Search for “GOTEK 3.5" 1.44MB USB SSD Floppy Drive Emulator for YAMAHA KORG” on eBay. I hope this information helps.

I'm puzzled when you say that the Triton Rack will accommodate up to 160MB!? of memory. You seem to mix ROM (exb modules, and internal factory sounds) and RAM (sampling, etc). Specs say 96MB of RAM. Can you please clarify that a bit for me? How would I expand to 160MB? It's definitely a monster of a synth! I'm also confused a bit by how to use the exb-pcm cards. I have 4 of them, and have been looking an overview of how to approach using them. I've looked in the manual for info, but haven't really found a straight forward summary. My question is: in order to have access to the programs & combi's of the cards, do I have to load the data from floppy or SCSI HD each time I power up the Triton? For PCM01 & 02, it seems lie I'm limited to using banks Int-C and Int-D, which I interpret to mean that I'm limited to using only two exb modules simultaneously. Correct? Or is it somehow possible to access sounds from any of possibly 8 installed cards? I'd really appreciate any info that you would care to throw out!
@PowercoatMusic
@PowercoatMusic 3 года назад
Correct. 16 Mbytes of RAM is stock and the unit is expandable to a maximum of 96mb. The 32 Mbytes of preset PCM ROM contains 425 multisamples and 413 drumsamples. We know that up to eight separate EXB-PCM expansion boards (with 16mb of PCM ROM per card) can optionally be installed to add even more PCM data and memory for that purpose. The answer to your first question is “No”. Once loaded/installed from disk, the Programs and Combi’s for each EXB-PCM expansion board overwrites the previous settings for that bank. With this, you should not have to re-load this data unless you overwrite it. Lastly, you are not limited to using only 1 or 2 of the EXB-PCM expansion boards at any one at a time. With the Combi and Multi modes, you can program and use any of the sounds in any bank together at any time. I have not had or seen any restrictions regarding this. Thanks so much for watching and sharing.

You should be good to go with the Triton extreme. I believe the only difference in the 2 units is that the Triton Rack is more expandable in regards to the sound boards and such.

If you have BOTH, you and assign one to respond to odd notes, and the other even, and then you have 124 note polyphony, 130 with MOSS!

How does compare with the Integra 7? Greetings from Switzerland
@PowercoatMusic
@PowercoatMusic 3 года назад
Great question, and the answers warrant a complete video unto itself. In summary, the TRITON-Rack is an expandable Hi-module/sampler that features the HI (Hyper Integrated) synthesis system as its tone generator. The HI (Hyper Integrated) synthesis system is a PCM tone generator system with full digital signal processing. The INTEGRA-7 is a newer sound module that contains SuperNATURAL sounds in addition to a sound library from the SRX series, as well as “Motional Surround,” which uses RSS (Roland Sound Space) technology to offer a new type of sound field. The sound data includes PCM synth tones and PCM drum kits, and can be called up from the preset banks and expansion banks. Again, the comparisons between the two sound modules are vast. For more information, please check out the “Sound Module” playlist on this channel. I hope this information helps.

Channels are handled differently, depending on the mode. Initially, select MIDI channel 1 on the MIDI instrument that is connected to the TRITON-Rack to control it. With the factory settings, the global MIDI channel (GLOBAL 2.1: MIDI “MIDI Channel”) is set to 1. In Program mode and Sampling mode, MIDI messages are transmitted and received on the global MIDI channel. With the factory settings, the various combinations in Combination mode are also set to be operated on the global MIDI channel. Multi mode is usually used to receive channel messages transmitted from a sequencer (computer) so that multiple channels can be controlled independently. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿

How do I set up the Triton Rack with Abelton Live 10 and Cubase Pro 10.5?
@PowercoatMusic
@PowercoatMusic 4 года назад
That's a loaded question. I have never used either of those DAWs, so I can’t address these software applications systems specifically. However, since the Trition is a MIDI sound module you should be good to go. There are many configurations for Triton setup with a DAW. It heavily depends on which audio interface you’re using along with your current studio hardware setup. If you have more than one sound module, typically, you might run them through a MIDI patchbay with your keyboard controller. You would use the MIDI Echo feature to hear the module both when recording and at playback. I strongly suggest referencing the manual for your software on exactly how to do that. I hope this helps some.
