Very seldom do i find videos that i cannot skip through, this guy has such a warm and friendly approach to something that can give you so much and in such a simplistic way! just had this sent by one of my good friends and i’m already hooked on this guy...
Nice demo. Thanks for not just playing the factory demo patches like most of the others. No point having a synth like this covered with knobs if the only knob that gets used is the preset selector!
Thanks for this! After much deliberation, I ordered a Wavestate today. Watching other reviews alone I was worried it was a one trick pony, a sample machine, but your video proved to me it’s got loads of ability to take a basic wave source and you can endlessly model it! More than I need but with all the cool sample potential too! Love it!
I was like: Oh, a lot of nice little tips and stuff I can use here to understand the Wavestate better. Then you get to the reverse delay part and I'm just transported to another dimension while you play that part. What a lovely effect and the way you used it was just so gorgeous!

this thing jumped at me from everywhere around 10 times in the last 30 minutes
I have to say this is one of the better initial reviews of ANYTHING I have ever seen on RU-vid. Just love your character and pace. And it’s fun watching the thought process. You just found a new subscriber!
Ditto! I watched the Wavestate videos when they came out but I've just now ordered mine so watching them again while I wait. As they say, NAMM stands for Not April, Maybe May.
Just purchased Wavestate 2 days ago, your video saved me hours of reading the manual, the good thing you did is that you focused on simplifying the user experience and stayed away from glorifying features. - man! great thing about this keyboard is that it can design any sound you could imagine, i designed Concert grand and a Rhodes by tweaking some knobs. Love it!.
I know this video is 4 years old, but I just wanted to thank you for such an in depth straightforward tutorial. I got one a couple days ago and you've helped me tremendously!
@@truecuckoo do you have any advice on isolating specific samples (i.e., horns, percussion) and keeping them organized in the set lists? I want a quick way of building music and remembering what instruments are where. Thank you
I have watched this more than 3x now. Some nights, I fall asleep. Lol. You have a meditative voice. I’m looking forward to part 2 where in you show us the sequencing lane and mod knobs :)
Thanks for walking us through at an absorbable tempo! A lot of tutorials don't take time to 'look' for things so it's a matter of pauze and try, with your tutorials it's easy to follow along and still plenty of room for self-learning, great stuff cuckoo, thanks!
This is such a clear introduction. Thank you for this! I bought the Wavestate to make patches of my own, and the performance initialisation, and sample choice is the obvious place to begin. Learning an interface one step at a time rocks!
I've always been scared of purchasing a synth as the creation of sounds always looked so complicated. Thank you, for the first time, after seeing many videos on the subject, you have explained it in the speed and clarity to finally allow me to see how. I will now treat myself to the Korg, it looks great fun but I will also play with the pre-sets as they do sound great, thank you so much :) Best wishes David
25:30 - Dreamy Reverb. Powerful tone here. 35:37 - one knob changes multiple targets - nice! That's why I favor the NordLead 3 (the only one they made with encoders instead of pots) over the others, it has that as well. 49:52 - Beautiful. This is why I prefer integrated synths over modular - It seems like it would have required $10K worth of modules and countless patch cables to replicate what you just did here in minutes, without any patch cables. Thank you so much for creating this incredibly informative video.
Just received the new module version of the synthesizer. I will dig into the settings trying to replicate your tutorial. Thanks for sharing. I hope the Dutch treated you well during your concert. I was born in Arnhem.
Great tutorial man. I like the way you teach while exploring by yourself. That way it is easy to follow, play with the nobs and still not loose the track. Also you were very well prepared. Keep it up, looking forward for more
Imagine an electribe this size for the price.. I find it much more enticing than the original wave station! I would like to see more of the sounds though or samples if this would be possible.
Pure sound design gold. I was looking for a video on loading samples and sequencing them, but now I'm going to hold off with my own samples. There's quite enough going on under the hood already here!
I really wish I knew someone like you in real life. You seem like such a chill person to be around! I literally know no one irl who's into synths and music production... :/
I just got one of these synths and it seemed complicated enough but I liked the ARP capabilities and sounds of Korg. You have just save me with this machine. I was thinking about returning it until I watched this video. I know I am late since you created this when the box first came out but this is still GREAT.
Really good tutorial. One of the best I've seen in a while.. The wavestate has become my go to for sounds. I haven't used a vst instrument since I purchased this. For the hip hop genre this is a secret weapon.
lol I’ve been trying to tell myself I don’t need this that I definitely don’t need to buy one Trying to convince myself I don’t want it Lol but I still want one it’s just really freaking cool a lot of people just playing sounds not explaining anything Happy to see you make a vid A picked up your op1 pack last year And been having fun learning it and using sounds it’s a really good pack and also helped me figure out how to make sounds I like and play the synth I’m new to synth I’m a guitarist and also own a Roland sh01 and tr08 Your channel has really helped me figure out the language and usage of synth modules and I hella appreciate that Also it’s just entertaining so thanks man
I just purchased my Wavestate and I have been looking around for video's to help me understand it better, this is bay far the best I have found so far. Thank you. Do you plan on doing another? I'd love to see you do more around the mod knobs and editing of the various WSEQ Lanes for use in live performance.
Must admit that Korg made the programming somewhat easier than the Wavestation. But then they added on so much more sonic possibilities that it's back to square one again. You could take weeks programming a complex patch (always did on the old one), but you can do so much more with this. I can see my self heading down to the studio and spending days in there programming this beast, come up for air and find the world has blown up or something. Modulation madness...I like.
I would agree with you, to take this synth to its full extent you can spend days on a single patch. I ordered one and planning on starting from scratch, something simple, and explore much later down the road. I like it 64 voice polyphony, multi-timbrality, and effects, as well as full-size keys.
Just got myself one of these a few days ago. I really love your tutorials. I was getting some serious Zelda vibes from your playing on this and then I saw Zelda in your saved sounds. Good stuff.
In all the all vids about the wavestate you hear the best sounds of any synth so basicly it does not matter who touches it as well. It sounds crazy good.
Amazing tutorial Cuckoo! Very relaxing. But I really hope you do the second part of the tutorial on the wave sequencing synthesizer were you show how to sequence wavestates :).
Thank you! I really enjoyed this demonstration. I will watch it again. Maybe a few times until I'm completely comfortable. ❤ We indie artists have to stick together!
@@truecuckoo helped out big time. Already had a grasp on how the board works within the first 20 minutes... I’m gonna have fun programming sounds on this beast.
Cool. And I didn’t get around to show how to actually sequence the wave states properly in this video. I hope you get there. It’s another dimension of a tool.
This sound (mostly) reminds me lead sound of Vangelis - Hymne. Its very close to the original. Great tutorial True Cuckoo, of "how to play with" Wavestate - the best so far !!! We want more!
Great how-to!! Still waiting for the various Behringers get to Canada and almost bought a Microfreak last week, I think this just jumped to the head of the want queue. Would love a module version a la Minilogue XD.
very enjoyable demo cuckoo, even though you only touched on the wavestation and vector synth topics, looking forward to that in the future. watching the vid, i still get the feeling that despite all the panel controls you're still relying a huge amount on screen and rotary encoder, still the "painting the hall through the letterbox" effect that plagued the original. perhaps a PC or tablet editor might help the situation.
Hey man, thank you so much for sharing this with us! I really like your simplistic approach and attitude to configuring this rather complex synth. I was reluctant buying it, due to the "menu diving", however you have showed that the menu diving is intuitive, especially the modulation configuration. I personally could care less about digital vs. analog. I think with the right filters and effects any digital synth can sound glorious. You just claimed another victim, I am ordering one today.
Wow just got my new Wavestate And I found it complicated new to synth ur video is so easy to understand and interesting u open up my eye hoping u will do more video about Wavestate synth thanks again
Many thanks for creating this. Trying to program custom sounds is quite the production, more menu steps than a lot of other synths, but at least here you patiently walk through them, showing how you got there, what the effects were and sounded like. However, if I'm doing a live performance or jam, it seems much easier to just use external pedals (which I often do) rather than having to wade though a labyrinth of menus and submenus to get at various effects options.
Glad to hear you found it helpful! Designing sounds is an art in itself. And the more complex the synthesiser, the more complex the process. I should make a followup and go into the white knobs, which can be really powerful and custom.
Definitely. It was my first question to KORG when they presented this to me. I think they must’ve heard this from virtually everyone who got this early to test it. I hope they’ll do it down the line.
Dude. your tutorial for the wavestate is better than Korg's factory videos. I learned more from you in the first 20 minutes of this video than I did watching their whole series. LOVE IT Thank you!
Hello from Helsinki! I admire your work and detailed tutorials u do... Keep the flame. I have a question though in case u can answer me. I am trying to apply the modulation Reverb Dry/Wet to Vector as u do, but its not working. I can assign it to mod knobs though for example... Any idea why? I can do Dry/Wet Delay also. ??????????????? Is there any settings because it is master fx ???? If u have the time and the answer please help me. Have a nive one. Stay Healthy...
