@ArtOfDrumming Great video! I loved those early korn drums sounds! I have the samples but they sounds completely different from the groove in the pack + they are printed with ambience / reverb. Do I need to remove the reverb, eq / comp the samples?
@@walpurgisnacht9234 The key words in what you said is "David's grooves". That said, i don't agree with you. Its like saying "john doe is a better you than yourself". Dosen't make sense.
If you need an amazing technical drummer that keeps everyone in time, all the time, you definitely need Ray. But for a Korn sound, David Silveria groovy paste is what you need. He is such an iconic nu metal drummer, nobody can replace him.
That Follow the Leader snare is THE snare sound of the 90s imo. It just sums up the whole decade, and it fits in so many musical contexts. It would easily be happy in a typical Pop track, as well as R&B, Hip-Hop, and---of course--modern styles of metal. It just has that X-factor. Very "live" sounding.
@@clivegeorge9740 That would be John Stanier of Helmet. His style is roughly the foundation of how I’ve always wanted to play. Milquetoast, In the meantime, and Birth Defect are just a handful of songs he's kicked some total ass on
I'm not a die hard Korn fan and I don't make many friends when I say that I like Ray Luzier's style even more. And I would absolutely love to see a video about his drum sound. But Silveria definetely has made some unique and iconic drum beats with the early Korn stuff.
Will never forget when I first seen David and Korn for that matter. 1996 first gig they played in the UK Donington 🇬🇧. Absolutely changed my love of music
I can't believe you didn't cover the 1st & 2nd albums. That sound & groove was exactly what made them groundbreaking and defined the nu metal sound and youskipped it; those rich and complex jazz sounds turned to metal that were largely lost on all the following records
probably becouse of lack of stems/multitrack on net... hehe only all SYOTOS; III; TPOT; Kidnap Sidney Clap; Word Up; Freak On A Leash; Falling Away From Me are here ;)
David inspired me to start drumming. I remember practicing at home, before taking drum lessons, and trying to show my teacher what I was practicing and he was like what is with all these ghost notes and loved it. Opened his eyes to David's drumming style. Not taking away from Ray, but his drumming does nothing for me, David really helped shape Korn's signature sound
One of the drummers that inspired me the most. He always used his toms in such a creative way to make grooves. And together with Fieldy's rhythmic slapping they had one of the most interesting rhythm section of the whole nu-metal era.
Ray Luzier is maybe technically the better drummer but David Silveria had much more character by creating those bad ass beats with his unique drum sound. The first 4 albums are timeless masterpieces!
Silveria is groove, rhythm and soul; For me, Silveria's work in Korn marks a before and after sound in nu metal, Korn's top albums are the ones that were recorded with the original lineup, Luzier is an excellent drummer, maybe I'm getting old but with the departure of Fieldy the sound of Korn is not so Korn anymore! Congratulations on his great research work, top level!
I was heavily listening to KoRn back in high school! I remembered David used a Tama piccolo snare with bronze shell. Especially during the Freak On A Leash era.
I know for a fact, that that snare sound was unique because he used a Remo Falams smooth white marching head on the snare. I did the same thing back in the day and sounded identical.
You guys should do drum sound videos for Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Incubus and System Of A Down. i would love to know how to get that super low puffy thud of a bass drum sound that late 90's early 2000's era of music is famous for 😊
I'm not super knowledgeable on this channel, but based off the videos I've watched, they seemingly only do videos on songs that they can get their hands the versions without the drum track, presumably from Rockband based on the crowd sound you can hear at 7:34 (as crowd sound was an extra track that they sometimes included on the Rockband games). If true, I know for a fact Mudvayne currently only have Happy? released on Rockband which obviously misses off everything else, especially their LD50 stuff, Limp Bizkit have a couple of songs like My Way and Re-arranged, Linkin Park with In The End, Numb, Given Up etc, System of a Down with Spiders, Chop Suey, Aerials etc. I'm not sure about Deftones and Incubus.
Silveria has an interesting groove and created the iconic parts we love. But Luzier just owns anyone I can think of in Rock/Nu Metal. He's the octopus of drummers! Make one for him too!
This is awesome guys, sounds absolutely amazing. Really great work on talking about the history of Korn and David’s drumming, can’t stop watching this. One of my fav drummers. Thank you for the great explanation of how you recreated the kit sound and excellent performance. 🤘🤘🤘rock on guys.
If I can be critical for a second , ONE big factor you're missing in this recreation of his sound is how hard he hits the drums. Now replay Freak OAL ,only hit the drums about as hard as you can and dial it back 10%. NOW you'll truly have his sound. Watch him play live from the 90s and he's smashing the shit out of the drums.
you think you guys may ever try recreating the drum sounds off the first two albums? The way his snare drum sounded like a cannon was my own personal favorite. Also, I'd say David's drumming on the first two albums was his most chaotic and creative.
Dude I’ve never seen this channel and I saw this, I thought it was something cheesy lol but nope 👍🏻 awesome man🙏🏻❤️ love David and the sound ( follow the leader) had David is iconic 🙏🏻✅ still one of my beginning drummer inspiration. This touched my heart thank you guys for taking the time to display this
I like these videos. I’ve always wondered how these cool drummers tune their kits, and these videos also help me learn more about how tuning drums work
Silveria revolución el groove del metal metiendo funk y lineas estilo hip hop aparte su configuración de batería si era diferente para lo que se veía en esos tiempos
Nice❤❤❤ & I love it ❤❤❤. By the way how to create Deftones drum sound Abe cunningham is the drummer. Some Deftones songs such as In Change ( House of flies) , Mineriva & Be quiet and drive ( Far Away).
I’m not a huge Korn fan but I definitely really like the set up and the way the overall sound was achieved. Also, nice n clean drumming style. Thanks for the post!
PLEASE do Abe Cunningham of Deftones... The album Diamond Eyes has such an incredible drum sound. White Pony drums are considered more iconic because they came a decade sooner, but I really think the Diamond Eyes drums outshine them, personally. Incredible series, thank you for creating these videos!
That's what I love about acoustic instruments, in this case acoustic drums. There will be certain attitude and sound that every drummer carries with them.
I bought a Starclassic Performer kit a couple months ago, and it was all because of David. David's drum sounds on Korn and Life is Peachy are what inspired me to play Tama drums and Paiste Cymbals.
I wish you have you used the bell brass piccolo snare david used during the life is peachy/follow the leader era. And the 18x20 kick david always used.
Really nice. David is always (ok, not always) "behind the click". He often drags.. That's one of his main characteristics, in addition to its excellent sound and feel... One of a kind. Ray is great, ofcourse.. but he is just antoher type of drummer.
I agree they need to sell multilayered - round robin samples of each drum. I purchased the Fleetwood Mac samples to test them and only had 3 samples (low, med & high velocities) for each drum. In this day & age with drum replacement so good and now there are many edrum modules importing multilayered - round robin samples. For one snare sound there should be 25- 40 samples minimum but 65- 90 samples (very quiet- very loud velocities) for great realism, this numbers can be halved for toms & kick samples. Art Of Drumming sound on RU-vid is very high quality but the samples they sell are very poor quality.
To have davids drum sound you need to kill your drum set with each hit like he does.😅 My band opened up for his new band breaking in a sequence. Seeing him live in the club we played i noticed he hits fooooooookin harrrrrrrrd. Got some pictures with him and got a couple drum sticks from him. Awesome nice guy . Great job with this video guys. Keep em comin!
If you were able to pick the gear, idk why you wouldn't just pick what he used. Starclassic maple and Paiste Signature cymbals. He played 15" power hats and big power crashes
love it man , miss David playing. Ray is a typical metal drummer , not unique nor memorable. sure he's good but there's millions like him.David defines the Korn beat
