A performance at one of Ray's clinics at Seminole Music in FL 11-08. Shane Gibson recorded all the music for the this medley. Mixed and video by Casey Grillo.
I love watching him play and I’ve probably watched this video dozens of times at this point. Dude plays the drums like his life depends on it. The combination of passion, energy, and skill is unparalleled.
The fact that he put so much "performance" into this even though it was just a drum clinic and not a Korn show is amazing to me. Shows how much he loves what he does!! This was so much fun to watch!
I honestly think people are intimidated when they see this level of talent up close. They're all used to walking around all stiff and uptight, doing and saying the right thing.... they're probably pretty good drummers. Then they sit five feet from this guy and energy is just pouring out of him.... there's practically sparks coming off him. It's probably pretty overwhelming for most people.
Agreed, I attended the clinic for Michael Henry "Nicko" McBrain of Iron Maiden and its not that we don't appreciate what they are doing, as drummers we are taking it all in trying to figure out how he is doing what he is doing, playing along in our heads try not to air drum and smack the person next to us. Its a rare learning experience that we will probably only see once in our lives and we don't want to waste what they have taken the time out of their extremely busy schedule to allow us this up close and personal experience. I was 100 feet away and was not able to get this close, we had a monitor to watch though. Also what they didn't show was where he broke down specialized beats and began teaching.
@@quinterguy It's a drum clinic, if you wanna see him play the songs part for part watch the live clips. David was good at the time buy Ray represents a new era of groove and dynamics and polish
Old-school with the long hair, stash, denim shirt, blue jeans and a backwards hat was genuinely into this outta everyone. All I noticed was Ray's awesome playing and Old-school digging it. That's how you want your fans too be like anywhere you go. That kids lucky to have a cool I'm assuming father to go rock out with you, that's awesome🤘
To respond to "that crowd was lame" comments: It was a drum clinic. Most everyone in there (myself included) were drummers and we were really paying attention to exactly what Ray was doing. It was a lesson and we were focusing on his technique and style. Were we supposed to be jumping around headbanging? This wasn't a concert, it was a tutorial. That medley was how he started the clinic, which went about an hour. Almost everything after that intro medley was him talking about style and approach to playing drums. He gave lots of good info and examples that everyone there could try on their own drums. Trust me, we were all very into it and amazed. We didn't want to miss a thing so we paid very close attention. Thus the "zombie" crowd. Idiots.
Tony Powell literally 4 seconds into the video the crowd is showing appreciation. And again at the end. Everything during the performance was a crowd intensely fixated on an amazing drummer putting his skills on display. Sorry for not moshing dude.
I've watched this video about 15 times in the last year. It's my favorite drum video of all time. He plays with so much power and ferociousness its like a tornado just came by and destroyed my sence of drumming.
Dude, I was thinking the exact same thing. As I was staring at everyone else I'm like...how the hell can you all sit so still and not be banging your fucking head? Hat guy was the only real rocker in the group. Kudos hat guy. Keep fucking rocking. Oh yeah, great performance Ray. You rock too.
Technically excellent, highly entertaining and most important of all - GENUINE. You can see Ray is loving it, there's no substitute for emotion. Great stuff!
exactly, nowadays you can just see technique with no emotions, very concentrated faces but no enjoy, zero, everybody is worry about to do the fastest paradiddles and stuff. Sad.
@@dereklong6751 I love how some of you ppl are. What were they suppose to do just quit? If you're a real Korn fan you should count yourself lucky to have someone like Ray. If you dont like that there are plenty other bands to listen to. Just stop bitching all the time. Y'all are starting to sound like a bunch of females having cramps
@@dereklong6751 Man ppl like what they like and that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm just sick of hearing all the bitching and comparing. It's to bad David didn't work out but that's life. Move on
I saw him twice at consecutive years of the Bonzo Bash at NAMM. Out of some thirty top-name drummers, he was by far the most fluid, powerful, and energetic. I could feel his energy coming from the stage with every hit. There are videos on RU-vid of those very shows. He absolutely KILLED.
02:00 Blind (Korn, 1994) 03:33 Freak On A Leash (Follow The Leader, 1998) 05:27 Ever Be (Untitled, 2007) 08:00 Here To Stay (Untouchables, 2002) 09:30 Ass Itch (Life Is Peachy, 1996)
His is good. But he is getting paid to cover songs he didn’t write. Dave was was way better. Davd was 20 and developing a new style to a new types of music. Period. Ra
Ah yes!!! Great observation my fellow being!!! Yes indeed!!! That is what separates the "Greats" from the rest. They don't just play the instrument, no, they become immersed in it hence blending with it until one cannot separate man from music, man has become one with the music. The music is now he and he the music!!
BEST DRUM DEMO EVER!!!! Luzier is unreal! I've probably watched this 200 times already! Everybody in that room is now deaf.... but, no one is complaining... After having their minds blown, everyone in that room is now in a mental institution.... but, no one is complaining... I've heard; everyone in that room now walks the earth, a nomad, fighting justice... and none of them complain...
this is what i love abt him, no matter if he's playing for a sold out arena or a small music store with maybe 30 ppl in it (like this video), he always puts on a show, and he's so fucking good at it too
This is why drums were created. Effortless, accurate, powerful with so much variation within each groove. I watch it over and over and am still amazed at how damn good this is.
Yah me too, Im pretty sure at least a couple thousand of those views are mine, been watching for a couple years now and at least once a week I watch it, used to be every day, check out Danny Carey-pneuma, and Alex Bent of Trivium, my other go to's.
Call me lost and dumbfound if you want, but I've NEVER heard nor seen this guy. But ill tell you what, Ray Luzier, is my new drum 🥁 hero. What friggin timing man. Geeeeeezzzz this man is awesome. I feel like a kid again. Thanks Ray.
I learned of him in a previous supergroup army of anyone with filter singer and guitar and bassist from stone temple pilots. He’s really only been professionally active since the late 90’s.
Me too I just found this video never heard of this dude. But holy shit I’m gonna need some recover time and I need to go practice now, fuck man what a performance!
Who ever criticized Ray for not being a great drummer to fill in the part doesn’t know what they are talking about. This guy’s insane! Very technical and creative
anybody who could criticize someone with that talent is just a flat out idiot and knows nothing about drumming or music. The work it took to get to that level is unimaginable. Much less the God given talent to start with. Not many have that.
Thomas Lang is a boring drummer. He sounds like trash, but highly skilled. Just has no sense of what is pleasing to the ear. I don't care how "good" someone is if they sound like crap.
RU-vid algorithm at 2am: "You wanna see some guy you've never heard of whip the everloving shit out of a drum kit like some kind of god? He plays a Korn medley. " Me: "Sold."
@@corbs3535 I didn't say he was random, I said I'd never heard of him. I figured out he was Korn's drummer after watching it. Very cool, super impressive.
I keep coming back to this video, it's just so good. I appreciate the grooviness of his playing far more than the blast beats and endless fills that are so popular right now in metal.
Plays everything perfectly and can emulate Davids sound without sounding out of place which nobody else Korn has had drumming since David has been able to accomplish
@@michaelpfaff7070 it was a drum clinic not a concert they were supposed to be listening not going crazy they were paying attention to his playing so they could understand what he was doing not jumping around and going insane
Ray is just simply on his own level. Don't see anyone else who looks like they enjoy playing as much as him. .......this is my comment..no reply needed
I'm gonna be honest. Most people don't enjoy playing because it's hard work. And everyone wants to be famous. They give up when they find out it's hard work.
I don't know much about Korn but this drummer is as good as they get. Awesome going through drumming beats, drum pattern , very creative and unique. From the looks of things I need to practice much as possible. This artist is most inspirational. Def got my vote. ..
Ray is beyond the beyond, on another plain... Its amazing how much intensity he has in his playing, and how he can deliver every hit lining them up perfectly...
This guy is amazing drummer he went to my school his mom was my 5grade teacher she gave us his first cd when he played with 9.0 and seen u play rostraver ice gardens with korn. Dude u kill it man perfect performance flawlessly and amazing. great video i enjoyed so much to watch and watching over and over ur parents and yough sd should be so proud of u. keep up the good work ray and if u see my comments on this ask ur mom about the student that got hit by a car in 1989 and she will tell u my name cause she was my favorite teacher that gave me drive and inspiration she aslo helped me not have fear standing in front of class giving reports i was so scared but she gave me confidence and i ended up having the best performing report in her class and she gave me an a +
I clearly remember how innovative I found Korn's original drummer to be when this material was first released. Now I am absolutely blown down by this cat. Ray just brings this stuff to an entirely different place.
I remember that day, when I first saw this video...i was like - wtf is this guy doing? Come on...he goes insaaaaane! Iam still watching it, because I never found a drummer video with so intense feeling of music and passion for playing.
I saw KoRn in original lineup with David but I'll never forget the moment where Ray threw the drum stick up 5 meters into the air and caught it in time to hit the cymbal for the big boom! WOW!
This man is a beast.. I've known Korn from the beginning and love the way Dave played back then. But I surrender to this crazy and tight beast 🤟👍🏹 holy shitblizzard this mans a math Genius
What I love about Ray is that he uses pretty simple beats, fills and licks, but applies them in such a way, with finesse and speed, that they seem harder than they are.
Most of the crowd is like "yeah he's cool" Then you get that dude who's about 50 with the cap full on bobbing his head smiling at Ray! I'd be bouncing off walls to see something like this!
