Thanks for explaining these nozzles. I was admiring what the heck was in the back of a run boat in a boatyard with a four bladed prop, driven buy a huge prop shaft.

The nozzle plane at the end is awesome. And Bernulli. Professor J.Sumner Miller said there were 50 or maybe 100 people in the Bernulli family and all were geniuses. I don't know but great video. Thanks I freaking learned something today. Finally...

@6.47 you got the "lift" forces wrong; they should be in the direction of thrust, so forward. An intuitive explanation: the propeller is "sucking" fluid from the front creating a low pressure zone (the fluid is accelerated - bernoulli law) the low pressure is acting on the nozzle intake and creating the "lift" force

That was brilliant, concise - clear and extremely educational. You do a great lecture always whether the topic is Wind or Knots. Hope your business propers!! (From North of Ireland)

We had Cort nozzles on the USNS Narragansett, the problem we had with them was cracking. In the 14 months I was on her, we had to go into drydock twice to repair cracks in them.

Interesting. I hear ice gets jammed in them sometimes too.

correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the kort nozzle itself can generate thrust, the physics doesn't add up that you can stick something with a drag coefficient in a fluid stream get a net increase in velocity

The kort nozzle is generating thrust, the propeller is creating low pressure in the front, that low pressure is acting on the nozzle intake and generating thrust. In some cases the thrust generated by the nozzle can be as large as the thrust from the propeller itself.

Is there some Venturi effect in addition when the fluid is forced thru the tapered cone?

Hello, I have an oral WKM exam next week and I am super stressed about it, Do you know if there are any videos that can help me with preparing for that exam?

Hi how are you ? I have a fishing boat 18m long and i put it in drydock to make some works on it . Do you think if i put a kort nozzle i will get more benefits ? I mean more speed , less diesel consumption does it affect in engine etc. . All i want to know is advantages and disadvantages of the kort nozzle .
@uscaptainstraining
@uscaptainstraining Год назад
If you go slow and pull things then it might be good. If you go over 10 knots often then it will be inefficient.
@f3k940

@@uscaptainstraining does it strain the engine ? And can i have low consumption ?
