So Gfriend have this era(well in my head) The highschool saga: Glass bead Me gustas tu Rough Navillera(this song is a transition to another era) Nostalgia Era Fingertip Love whisper Memoria(not sure but I know it's around this time) Summer rain(transition song to next era) Power melancholy era(a genre of music dubbed by the majority to be their genre) Time for the moon night Sunrise Crossroads(transition to a more experimental yet having this distinct sound) The modern era: Apple Mago Their journey is a very unique one. I really really love them. There's something about the songs they created. I would like to thank the producers for that and gfriend. Argh I miss them

GFRIEND. A legendary kpop group that established it's own sound/genre (which can't be stressed enough in a sea of kpop groups that all sound the same) known for (excluding Mago): -string or piano counterpoint (Bach would be proud) -occasional screeching guitar lick/solo -running lyrics and verses to create movement -heavy use of the IV-V-iii-vi chrod progression (commonly known as the anime chord progression) -often and crazy key changes that seem sudden but are hinted at earlier in whichever song ....the songwriters definitely know their music theory -knife-like precision in their choreography and synchronization (often they are labeled as the most synchronized gg ever in kpop). I know you guys don't care about choreography but they did a video where they danced an entire verse and chorus blindfolded of Mago that's how precise they are Even non-GFRIEND fans COULD argue the main comeback songs you didn't react to (Me Gusta Tu, Navillera, Glass Bead, Love Whisper, Labyrinth) would be even better than the 5 that were given to you that's how extensive their catalogue is

While the group disbanded, Eunha, Umji and Sinb are now a group called VIVIZ, Yuju is now a soloist, Yerin as well, as for Sowon their leader is now an actor, though she did do a cover a while ago I believe. They may have suddenly disbanded for no reason, (Before their contract even expired) they are still very supportive of each other on Instagram, they reunited for their Anniversary a little while ago, and even sang together as the whole group for a wedding. Their B-sides are all very worth given a listening to, especially the older ones, like Time For Us and Labyrinth as well. I hope you guys continue listening to them and their B-sides as well, they are a very talented Girlgroup. Don’t hesitate to check out on the members current songs now too, like VIVIZ.

Their contracts were being terminated abruptly, and the company announce it literally 4 days before their disbandment. Ofc fans and knetz are furious bc their fanbase in korea are huge. But, sowon said theyre not disband yet, they just separate do their own things and will comeback in the future. Gfriend bsides are just as good as their title tracks, but most of them were focusing on orchestral pop, melancholy orchestral etc theme, which make them unique and thats why people like it. However, since they join hybe, the music direction change as u can listen from sunrise (2019) to apple (2020). I can say, their international popularity increases w the change, but slightly decline in korean chart. While rough, me gustas tu and time for the moon night are crazy famous and got many trophies and awards (rough got 15 music show wins, which is the 2nd most win music show by female idols till now)

Source Music, their company, got out by Hybe and it was decided to go with a younger group. As someone else has said, three members relaunched as Viviz. They started cute, but they seemed to have found their groove with a more grownup vibe.

I hate their agency, they just threw the girls out. Just because they went at a loss. Their agency was already bought out by HUBE at that time, I don't know what prevented them from promoting them as well. I remember they announced the tour and were about to leave, even the dates were already known, but just the news, like a bolt from the blue, that the girls just didn't renew the contract, and most importantly, ALL TOGETHER. I miss them so much, to lose such a group. They were their first group since the foundation of the agency. I think they could use a group 2, they just took it and threw it away. The previous comeback, Crossroads, which came out after HYBE took over Source Music, was the last one that resembled the original concept. The events surrounding the disbanding of GFriend have picked up speed again since the debate about HYBE and Adore. The GFriend fandom is still quite pissed off about the disbanding, and not without reason. 43:23 This VIVIZ foreshadowing gives me goosebumps and a queasy feeling in my stomach every time.

The one thing about apple is IT IS SEDUCTIVE without them showing skin. IT IS SEXY without them giving up their sound. Though I love sexy songs that made me feel like a hoe, there's something unique in apple.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that they are disbanded. Many though they are gonna go higher after Mago. But you can actually still (kinda) hear their release after this. Majority of the members are debuting again. 2 become soloist (yerin & yuju). 3 members forming a group together (Viviz: Eunha, SinB, & Umji). The leader (Sowon) pursue acting career Another interesting group is Apink (hopefully the discord people recommend them). They are an older group (2nd gen) that are still active. Like Gfriend, their sound in the beginning half was really different than the recent one. I believe you will prefer the more recent half song though. The instrumental in the songs is really cool & unique

Their b-sides have various genres from reggae, house music, to dubstep but every song in their discography incorporates the signature GFriend elements that their title tracks have.

I really love GF old song. Their song sound innocent but the guitar and violin make it different with other girls idol in that era

It's so interesting to watch you guys react to gfriend, as their music reflects a style commonly heard in countries like Korea and Japan, characterized by more mixing, experimentation, and cute vocal range. This aspect seems somewhat lost in newer generation groups, which lean more towards Western influences (tho I appreciate the R&B, soul, and hip-hop soundscape that many newer groups explore) Nevertheless, GFriend has always maintained a distinctive sound

So many memories 😢. Dancing Queens! I was happy when got to change their concept up bc they usually stuck to Mid-tempo Orchestral music. Mago is at the top for me outside of their rare city pop songs.

Gents, so glad you took on Gfriend today. I am sure the Buddies out there treasure the opportunity to experience the nostalgia over Gfriend's music. I am thankful to see that even though the featured Gfriend sound, the orchestral pop for its instrumental, particularly strings, is not your usual flavor, your interest in musical composition and sonic production could still harness the quality in Gfriend's work. It is such a travesty that "Mago" became their farewell track. As you said, there could be something even better if given the chance.

Gfriend's label (Source Music) disbanded them. The members didn't even know themselves. It's speculated that Source Music disbanded them for Lesserafim. Gfriend members always say they haven't disbanded because they will reunite eventually. Three of the members, Eunha, Sinb and Umji, are now a trio known as Viviz. Yuju and Yerin and soloists and Sowon is an actress. Some more GFriend songs with a sorta different vibe are Me Gustas Tu, Navillera, Sunny Summer, Fingertip and Crossroad. Japanese title tracks include; Memoria, Flower and Fallin Light Some great B-sides include: Neverland, My Buddy, Trust, Gone With The Wind, Labyrinth, Windy Windy, Rainbow, One-Half and Room Of Mirrors (These are my personal faves!) I would love to include that Gfriend has some crazy lore in their songs which to this day no one has really solved (Only theories can be made for now)

Yup i still think its unfair for the agency to just suddenly end their contract. Even until today buddy still wondering what was happened. They even didn't let the members to talk abt it or to meet buddy for the last time as a group under source music. Apple, Mago was great although it wasn't as appreciate as their older release especially by koreans, but in international both song was got more appreciations. Another Funfact : rough was their very first song that make them won in music show programs. koreans are really love that songs and their other musical theatre type songs. In 2015 - 2016 the cutesy type song are really popular. Good news, that gfriend leader, sowon said gfriend wasn't disbanding (actually all the members said something similar). They just got out of that agency (kicked out). And if the opportunity come they will like to make a comeback. Though we don't know when. Some buddy hopping they will make a comeback next year, january 16 2025 are their 10th birthday.

I miss gfriend so much, they were the only group I religiously listened to since I was in middle school, and now I'm entering college. Gfriend disbanded because after HYBE bought them in, there were monetary issues between like the sub labels and left Gfriend's company in debt (as a result, the company added ridiculous terms in their new contracts and members decided not to renew and yeah :( They were basically kicked out because of greedy company leaders and competition between those leaders.) Members didn't know they would disband until like a day before and it was bye bye, I resent HYBE so much for buying source music (Gfriend's company) and then kicking them out. Source Music started out as a company in a basement (literally) and they were able to build up a proper company building because of Gfriend's success (they were the only active group under Source Music back then.)

I know both of you won't care, but what you can't see in the vids is that Gfriend was known for difficult dance moves on top of amazing vocals. There's an older vid somewhere of Gfriend dancing blindfolded, they were so spot on in sync that I think they went on longer than they had intended. If interested, I'd look for first vids on the hardest Gfriend choreos and why they're considered difficult... then maybe lists of the most difficult kpop choreos of all-time, but maybe newer kpop RU-vidrs don't remember Gfriend by now. I know there used to be all sorts of vids on difficult choreo that included them.

it’s funny you say their producers wrote their music for a Musical, they were supposed to comeback with Red Sun! before they disbanded which the concept is actually a musical theatre show. They released the song as VIVIZ (group composed of three members of past Gfriend members after they disbanded) if you wanna check it out

Omg you should really react to crossroad. It was released around the time of MAGO (around disbandment) but it brought back the acoustic sound of their earlier music!!! And its also really good.

GFriend's songs are unique, they don't follow the rules of music production, They make their own style. If you understand about music production, You will be amazed with GFriend's song. Ahh gfriend.. this group has been inactive for almost 4 years and they are still in the top 4 female groups with the most music show wins (71 wins). Gfriend comes from a small unknown company but they were able to compete with other girl groups from big companies and also be able to enter the top 5 of the 3rd gen girl groups known as TREBELMAYEO (twice, red velvet, blackpink, mamamoo, yeojachingu/gfriend)

Most of them still make music though! Eunha, SinB, & Umji formed a new group called VIVIZ. Saw them in DC this month and they are still amazing. Yuju and Yerin have both released solo albums. Sowon is modeling/acting now :)
