KQED Live presents ¿Dónde Esta Mi Gente? -- a dynamic cabaret of performances curated by Bay Area writer, performer and storyteller, Baruch Porras-Hernandez. Originally created in 2014 with the help of a grant from Galeria de la Raza, this series holds space for spoken word, music and comedy by Latinx artists, who he saw less and less of performing in San Francisco. Since then the series has showcased over sixty Latinx performers.
Featuring:
Dorian Wood is a Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist and singer, whose work explores by their own experiences as a non-binary brown person - a child of Costa Rican and Nicaraguan immigrants - and a self-taught artist seeking to challenge traditions and systems that have contributed to the marginalization of people.
Roberto F. Santiago is a poet, who writes and produces his own music. He likens himself to Tennessee Williams in a poodle skirt, Gloria Anzaldúa in culottes, and James Merrill in short-shorts.
Dizzy Jenkins is a New York-born, Oakland-based singer-songwriter, vocalist, bomba drummer and composer, whose signature style and lyrics reflect their cultural upbringing, social justice and healing.
Amanda Muñiz is a Mexican writer born in Puebla and raised in Oakland, whose work -inspired by the immigrant experience and her family’s resilience - is a never-ending letter of love and gratitude to her parents.
