I grew up in Decatur and knew that the original was on Eldorado Street. I even thought like your wife mentioned that the original was on Wood Street. I can remember when the location you are visiting was originally known as the Dairy Maid which was bought out from Krekels and became Krekels #2. I even think the other Krekels in Mt. Zion was its own place on 121, but became a part of Krekels as well. I relocated to Champaign, Illinois. Krekels tried to bring a little of Decatur to Champaign. The problem is they opened up Where Jarlings has been here for years. I moved away from Decatur due to a better job opportunities.
I never been to this place when my grandparents used to lived in Decatur, Illinois. They had a house on Nelson Blvd. across the street to a golf course. When I was a kid that my grandfather took me to this place that had these old cars that I used to climbed into. That place burn down a few years ago. I even walked with them to this park near their home. I never been to this place when I was visiting my grandparents. I haven’t been to Decatur since 1992 just shortly after my grandfather passed away. It was so spooky to sleep in his bedroom the first night. I do missed their house. It was a small home with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms home. My grandparents put in another room in the basement with a bathroom in the early 80’s. It took almost half of the basement. I did have some good memories of going to Decatur, Illinois. It would be almost 31 years for being in the town.
That's crazy, this location. He is at is literally 2 blocks from Nelson park, most likely the park you're talking about going to It's literally right on the other side of that car dealership you can see over his left shoulder
@@Zachalackalackalack I am talking about the vegas steak n shake it's better it has cloth napkins and fancy silverware the food is ten times better than the cooks and this is my opinion these are the only things that remind me of when I was a child dingus when I lived in decatur your opinion does not mean two brown stains in your pants
@@larrybobnewman it was a country club near MacArthur and Shadow ln. Across from Steven's creek i used to go there when I was a child back in the seventies unfortunately I think it's closed now they had three pools one was a Olympic size with three diving boards high dive mid dive and low dive diving boards it was a fun place I think it shut down in the late 90s maybe 2000's
@@tylerbuckley4661 ... we were members there at Sun-n-Fun. My daughter was pretty young back then. I think we started there about 1990 ish, and went about 4 or 5 years. We ended up switching to our neighborhood pool in hopes there would be someone for my kiddo to swim and play with.
@@bonniemoerdyk9809 well when I was young sun n fun was it for swimming and golfing plus winter ice skating on the water hazards it was a fun place to be at in the seventies
I Love Krekels! Do they still have the giant rooster/car??? Also. I really enjoy these review/informative videos. And I’m SO happy to see more editing. Nice job. 🤘
Nice review! Makes me want to try Krekels sometime! You know there is another place around here that is known for their lemon ice cream and that is Deweys in Farmer City. I would be curious if the lemon ice cream tastes the same? You should take a drive there and do a review it is set up similar to krekels with outdoor seating but has indoor seating as well. I don't know if they are open year round or just seasonal. Anyways good video bro!
lol, my entire family is from Decatur and my grandpa grew up in Decatur in the 20’s and 1930’s and then went off to fight in WW2… pretty typical story of a man from his generation but what used to crack me up is he would cook these smash burgers and then he claims Bill Krekel stole his burger recipe haha. He is like me and Krekel talked one time about opening a restaurant, then he went out on his own! I always wondered how true this story was because my Grandpa was known to exaggerate but every time I eat Krekels I think about my Grandpa’s bold claim that the Krekel burger was actually his recipe lol
