Back in the year 2020, I bought myself a 48” Krisbow ceiling fan. Weeks later, I saw that they actually have a 56” version as well, which I thought I’ll get in several months time. What I didn’t expect is that those fans got discontinued before I could get the 56”.
Fast forward to late September of 2023. I was travelling in Jakarta, visiting carpentry & HVAC expos, meeting friends from towns & worlds afar, and generally having a good time. I felt a bit spendy because of that, and I offered to buy all 3 variants of itty bitty poop extractor fans from CKE in the HVAC expo, but they said they don’t have any of those fans in stock at the expo, so my wallet breathed a sigh of relief. The next day, I visited LTC Glodok just to look at industrial equipment & fans, and then to Living World in Alam Sutera. I went into their Ace Hardware & bolted straight to the fan section. From a distance, I saw 2 ceiling fans on the display which looked unfamiliar. They have generic plastic canopies and the blades seem to be curved. At first I thought they have the 2020 Krisbow-SMC fans as new old stock, but as I got closer, I freaked out!
Krisbow-SMC fans are back in stock! And what struck me most is the unusually strong North American vibe with these fans. The white ones no longer use those Matsushita style motors with the often wonky plastic covers, instead they share the exact same motor as the 2020 brown version. In other words, SMC’s ‘KS’ motor! Instictively I called an employee to bring me 48” & 56” fans in white, because I’m buying them without first thinking how the he** I’m hoing to carry them on my flight home later that evening. I was so excited I told the employee testing the fans for me during our small talks, that I’m not from Jakarta and I’m catching a flight home in 4 hours, and I’m bringing both fans home no matter what.
I brought 2 suitcases at the time. One was filled to the brim with brochures, food and clothes, while the other is used to house the first suitcase, as it’s a bit larger. I decided that I’m going use the larger suitcase to carry both fans. At first I was suggested to throw the boxes away & carry the motors & blades all loose & stuff. I quickly refused & came up with a method of wedging both fan motors in their styrofoam package in one half of the big suitcase, fold all the cardboard packaging & put them with the blade boxes in the other half.
Then I got reminded that the limit for the plane baggage is 20 Kilos. The employee kindly offered to use their display weight scales to measure the weight of both suitcases, which fortunately are below 20 Kg. As soon as I got home, I repackaged both fans to film the unboxing.
These are definitely very interesting fans. Be sure to look out for the full demo video, and I also might do a comparison on both the 2020 & 2023 versions, cuz there’s quite a few differences to cover
