We are super psyched to welcome in JJ's former teammate and current member of The Boston Celtics. In this interview, KP opens up about a lot of things so be sure to tune in. We'll get right into it!
Topics include: JJ breaks down the play of Tyrese Haliburton in the NBA In-Season Tournament. Then we welcome in Kristaps Porzingis to talk about the card games he and JJ used to play on The Dallas Mavericks. Then KP talks about his growth with The Washington Wizards and his improved defense, why he's excited to be a part of this Boston Celtics team and why he feels things didn't work out with Luka Doncic and The Dallas Mavericks. He then recounts the Mavs / Clippers series in which Rick Carlisle told him to stand in the corner and how these moments helped with his growth and maturity as a professional athlete. He then talks about growing up in Latvia and getting drafted by The New York Knicks and knowing that he would get hate on draft night. He obviously talks about Tingus Pingus too. He then gets into the rocky leadership during his time and why he regrets asking for a trade. And finally KP talks about playing with guys like Al Horford, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Let's go!

KP has been a revelation for the Celtics. The biggest thing has been his 2-man game with JB, and has helped him be a better playmaker. Of course, there’s the elite rim protection and great shooting and post play. Hopefully this is the year for the Celtics and Banner 18

NBA and America in general should take in to the account that KP comes from different culture where criticizing and speaking ill in public where person is not present is almost tabu as a default and in sports even more stricter. Surprised he didnt mention the presence of his older brother when they talk about New York stuff. His brother was a professional player in Europe before KP got to the NBA. They lived together in New York for some time. When he says "I just didnt care", it was 100% the calming presence of his older brother, the advice and so on. Crazy how I predicted KP coming to Boston. Last season we played the Wizards and he absolutely torched us with his mid range. They won that game and I kept telling myself “man KP would be perfect for Boston! I think they’re going to get him!”. Some months later, we sign KP!! I just hope Mazzulla uses him the right way during the playoffs. He needs to shoot more mid range shots and I think he needs to learn a hook shot. It’s automatic when you’re that tall and very hard to stop. Just like Jokic does! It really bothers me because I’m 6ft but I play like a big man. The hook shot is so easy for me to hit so I get so mad when y’all players don’t even try it lol.

I have been a fan of Kristaps since draft night. Yes, he was not welcomed by many Knick fans, including Stephen A Smith, but Kristaps did prove them wrong with his exciting, Unicorn like play in no time at all. He was not this soft European player that will have little to offer to a team any time soon.. Was so exciting to watch him play. He is a 7'3 offensive juggernaut and is a very good defensive player now. It should be noted that it did not take too long before Stephen A. Smith had changed his initial impression of KP and offered an apology on the air. I think that showed real professionalism... To admit to a wrong! Happy to see him in Boston now with an opportunity to win a championship. The guy is a difference maker and is proving to be a good fit on Boston's very talented starting line up. KP carries himself well. Excellent interview JJ!

I'ma end up saying this on every single interview video, but it's the truth: BEST NBA podcast/interview channel, hands down. There's a lot of other really good ones as well, but JJ and his team just know how to balance serious and funnier topics, as well as life and basketball topics. Wade and Nash are my favorite basketball players of all time, but if I could only pick 1 NBA player I could meet and talk to, I think it'd have to be JJ. And shout out to KP for opening up as much as he comfortably could. Never easy to admit past mistakes but as we see with him, what's important is learning and growing from those mistakes. And look, everyone is young and extra headstrong in their lives, and being a professional athletes exponentially makes all that more complicated. In this day and age of instant news and information, always a good thing to take a breath and step back, before passing on opinions and judgment. Gotta remember that people *can* change. So thank you to JJ, and all these other podcasts, for giving these players a chance to show their human side.

Was KP’s English always this good? I haven’t listened to an interview of his probably since he was a rookie, so I don’t remember.

I love when they throw him a question in Spanish. Still waiting for a Latvian reporter to rock up.
