You're totally right. I've just spent too much of my time listening to crappy singers. It's so refreshing to listen to someone who has, you know. Talent.
She's 4'11". It's just amazing a person her size can fill up a stage like she does. I liked the woman in the audience at 1:55 and how the pianist, (conductor) got so swept into this as it built . Ms Chenoweth can really sell a song. She was born to do this.
Kristin has a bachelor's degree in musical theater, and a master's degree in opera performance. She knows what she's doing. Regarding her height, Linda Ronstadt is 5'2", and she had a powerful, versatile voice. Judy Garland was 4'11", and she sure could sing. Height has nothing to do with singing or musical ability. I'm 5'1", and have been playing the piano for 54 years. My height is irrelevant when it comes to playing the 88 keys.
@@ericandsarahsmom1000 You are correct. Now that you mention it, size doesn't have anything to do with talent. If someone 4'11" has "the pipes". I did not know Judy Garland was also 4'11". I was just thinking it takes a lot of voice strength for Broadwayand opera singers especially because they've got to get the song all the way to the back of the house. Ms Chenoweth can do that.
Good things come in small packages! I'm 5'5" tall and for a man that means I am rarely taken seriously, hardly noticed and passed over unless or until I open my mouth and fill the hall with my voice- - I can't sing like she does but I can and do sing. The big ones just fall harder and the air is thinner up there soooo... don't underestimate the little ones. LOL.
@@kaidanlane5708 A 'degree' adds nothing. You either have 'it' or you don't. Did Elvis, Sinatra, Cher, The Beatles, Julie Andrews, Neil Diamond, etc. have a degree? Were they somehow lacking without a degree? No, they weren't lacking, and they each surpassed KC in spades.
@@waynemizer4912 yeah, no. Opera is a highly technical and artistic form of singing. Having a Masters in Opera means she had studied in a respectable school and that she is a great singer.
Kristin doesn't get enough credit. I think if more folks heard her she definitely would. No one can hear her voice, and not be changed! She IS AMAZING, TRUE! I have been to 3 of her Shows. The last two were on consecutive nights. and She Always sounds so Amazing! Kristin has such power, yet a softness in her voice. She is the Greatest Singer I have ever heard for sure! I was so honored to be able to meet her after the show in Nashville on 12-8-15. She was "so happy to finally meet me!" She is the Sweetest Lady I know. So talented yet down to earth also! Hear her Strong voice on Hard Times Come Again No More... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H6FVvh7vjwc.html -- She is Amazing!
I agree. All singers who are really good should be able to sound better live. Yes, recordings are tuned to be flawless but you can't see the personality and feel the emotion like you can with live versions. No one is a perfect singer but little "flaws" that a singer has makes it all the more better and beautiful
This version is so much more dramatic than her Glee version!! The maturity of her interpretation has raised this song to a much higher level. FABULOUS!! A JOY TO WATCH AGAIN AND AGAIN!!
@@antm64 Welllll….wait a minute, lol. Like you, it’s pure joy to watch this over and over and I’m in awe! However, have you seen this , by Philip Quast , 3-time winner of the Laurence Olivier award?!Different type of song, but again, the performance and vocals! Music is my soulmate! ❤️❤️❤️ sigh… ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-urxk4mveLCw.html
Wow!! That build up!! I don't see her sing super serious often. Her singing usually contain some sort of gags here and there (or the song would be something happy and positive in nature). Even in the glee version, the setting is kinda comedic. I'm very surprised at the level of seriousness of this performance. This is just so well put together, she drove the idea of the "crazy and desperate woman" home. Amazing piece!!
The Lady is Phenomenal! If YOU ever get a chance to see her in concert...Please do Yourself a favor, go see her sing. You will not regret or forget it!
I love how she is capturing the desperation of sally Bowles but equally delivering a vocal masterpiece with the lizaesque sally it’s like a blend of both the Sally’s and I love it
Okay I have to do it. Here's a little Vocal Breakdown of this stunning performance! 0:16 - Very conversational in the way she is singing as if she is talking to the to every audience member personally. This is acieved by a few things, one being the way she sings the lyrics: eg. "lucky" is still on pitch but not really sung, just spoken instead. 0:21 - On the word stay, one of many Crescendos she uses to evoke a tense feeling as the song builds. This performance is full of these. 0:25 - Again very conversational in approach, not too overly sung. Stunning tone and pitch. 0:31 - "Away" another crescendo and her vibrato builds in tempo too. 0:36 - "He will hold me fast" very seductive with how she goes to the consonant of "s" in the word "fast". Slightly more of a head voice quality here too. 0:52 - "Like the last time" a stronger chest voice here with STUNNING vibrato (I love Kristen's vibrato, it's perfection). This stronger chest voice here evokes further emotion for the lyrics. This performance is full of emotive singing and wonderful story telling. 0:54 - An octave change from a G4 to a G3 on the word "time". Her resonance and vibrato here is amazing, very difficult to achieve on a lower note like a G3. 0:59 - This "everybody" hits differently. The "body" is more open than the few other times this word was sung. The "loves a winner" here is so good! The acting here is amazing and she is making us believe every word she sings! Great story telling! 1:10 - "Lady peaceful" the "peace" has a subtle change to head voice here then back to chest for "ful" with a lovely vibrato and change in vowel placement with almost an "ah" at the end. 1:18 - I love this "be". It has intent and power and the climb up from a G4 to G#4 to A for the new key of F major is flawless and a great way of building the song. 1:22 - Notice how Kristen is almost behind the beat of the song here with "all the odds are in my favor". This is syncopation and it's yet another technique Kristen uses to build the song further before the final climax. 1:29 - "Begin" Notice her locked jaw position that literally does not move for the duration of the note. Great chest belt on a difficult vowel at a C5 with masterful vibrato. 1:33 - This is more of a mix than a chest note with "It's gonna" well placed but lacks the power that her full chest voice has. Still a nice little growl on the "it's" and a great note! 1:36 - "Happen some time" Wanted to point out that on the word "time" she actually goes almost completely back into her chest voice here. Shows us how Kristen has fantastic control over her voice. 1:59 - OMG! THIS! "maybe this time I'll win" she uses her whole body to emphasise those notes and intensify her vibrato as she goes into the climax of the song. 1:43 - "Cause" has almost a slide down from the top note of C5 carried by her vibrato. 1:44 - Straight down an octave to a B3 still keeping the power and pitch perfect. 1:50 - "So nobody loved me" Great soar on "loved" with a 5 note interval up to an G#4 with a fantastic vibrato and tone on "me". 1:56 - Lovely slide on "lady" hitting a B4 2:00 - Incredible chest note on G#4 climbing up semi tones from A4 to Bb4 into the new key. 2:05 - "All the odds are" more syncopation and omg that TONE and resonance on "are" is outstanding. 2:10 - "Something's bound to begin" Kristen uses more slides her for each syllable to reach the notes in her chest voice. The "begin" hits a great C#5, a tiny bit shaky in the middle, but Kristen saves it like a pro! 2:15 - Here's that fantastic growl mix again on an insane D#5! 2:17 - To me iconic from Glee, the "ha ha" adds so much happiness to the performance as if she really is finally going to win! 2:20 - "Maybe this time" Note her wide mouth so she can place the notes perfectly for resonance and power. Some extra growls and a huge smile too! She's gonna win! 2:22 - "Maybe this time" Here she changes her emotion on the word "time" immediately. So much more intensity! And her pitch is incredible such precision with high belts like this alternating between the C#5 and the D#5. 2:26 - "I'll win" fantastic belt with her vibrato steady and in time. The wide mouth allows for excellent placement here and the exaggerated "wha" at the start of the word "win" allows a singer to place the note easier before the vowel is sung. 3:33 - I honestly was waiting for this. Her Glee performance of this is one of my favourite things of all time. Here she demonstrates her classical training and her very impressive range. That's a B5 folks. A B5. The vibrato here is incredible again, her voice really shines on notes like this! I hope you all enjoyed! I do this on performances or songs that I find inspiring and make me want to better my vocal abilities. Kristen is phenomenal and quite frankly, an icon and I hope you learned a little something from this post! If you want, check out some of my covers on my channel, or some of my other vocal breakdowns on some other videos!
All the people going on about her face jobs, yeah, okay, she's probably gone to get her face done, and yes, she doesn't look like the sweet Glinda or Sally Brown she was years ago, but come on - that was YEARS ago. She isn't Peter Pan. Close your eyes. Listen to that power. Hear the melody. Feel the music and emotion. Do you like what you hear? Yes? Open your eyes. Does her face REALLY matter?
Maybe this time, I'll be lucky Maybe this time, he'll stay Maybe this time, for the first time Love won't hurry away He will hold me fast I'll be home at last Not a loser anymore Like the last time And the time before Everybody loves a winner So nobody loved me 'Lady Peaceful', 'Lady Happy' That's what I long to be Well, all the odds are, they are in my favor Something's bound to begin It's gotta happen, happen sometime Maybe this time, I'll win 'Cause everybody, oh, they love a winner So nobody loved me 'Lady Peaceful', 'Lady Happy' That's what I long to be Well, all the odds are, they are in my favor Something's bound to begin It's gotta happen, happen sometime Maybe this time Maybe this time, I'll win
Yep. She does that. It is quite a feat. I have to say it works well. The original with Oscar winning Liza Minelli was a beautiful piece of work cos it was endearing that she came across as meaning every word on phrasings and stresses. Kristina does a damn good job of a song she has mastered, seriously. Technically excellent and she does believe in how she is performing this. A Quality Act.
Oh my god I am in awe. I just love her. She's brilliant. The little "ha-ha" just shows how little things can make a performance 10 times better. This is a different interpretation of the song, yes. But I love it. You have to respect different interpretations and changes the actor wants to make. I thought it was brilliant
Honestly I’d never heard her sing until this video. But her speaking voice is so itty-bitty and cute, and this rich sultry voice comes out singing! Amazing!
YES. That is something that is so AMAZING about Kristin Chenoweth. If You get a chance to see her live in concert You need to. Kristin has the most AMAZINGLY Clear Full Voice of ANY Singer I have ever heard. She has a four octave range. A Coloratura Soprano that is the BEST EVER! Take a look at some of her other RU-vids, You will be so entertained! "A Song has no Better Friend than Kristin Chenoweth!"
The best performance of this song EVER. The real professional singer, with real voice, real training, and real raw deliverance -- stunning, nobody can even hold a candle to her!
I have seen her in concert 3 times. LOVED EVERY second of it EVERY Time! I have met her also. There is not a more Sweeter & Kinder Lady on this planet! She was so happy to meet me. Her voice is just AMAZING! The happiest time in my life was the night I met Kristin Chenoweth! She is the Greatest Voice EVER to me. LOVE Kristin.
Gave me goosebumps, caught myself randomly holding my breath & wanted to happy cry. A voice & song like that 🥲 makes my heart feel like a balloon being blown up. Music is truly a gift from & to the soul.
my vote is with kmd729 and James Wyatt. I noticed that i sway from side to side when I am really into a song. Not as bad as Stevie Wonder but definitely not sitting still. But hey, thats just me.
Maybe this time, I'll be lucky Maybe this time, he'll stay Maybe this time For the first time Love won't hurry away He will hold me fast I'll be home at last Not a loser anymore Like the last time And the time before Everybody loves a winner So nobody loved me; 'Lady Peaceful,' 'Lady Happy,' That's what I long to be All the odds are in my favor Something's bound to begin It's got to happen, happen sometime Maybe this time I'll win
If YOU ever get a chance to go see her in concert do Yourself a favor and go see her. The Lady is Phenomenal! She is in my humble opinion the Greatest Singer to EVER stand on a stage! I have seen her in concert 3 times & I have met her. She was so Sweet & Kind & YES Adorable! LOVE Kristin Chenoweth...ALWAYS will.
I'm almost ashamed that I had never heard of Kristen prior to Glee but damned if she didn't blow me away! The woman can literally do no wrong. The power of the voice ; she's truly a pocket rocket.
The reason why she is so amazing is not only a voice but she has a vision of this song inside her head that enraptures the audience she becomed the character and truly embodied the song
Every time I need to do an attitude adjustment on myself, this video comes to mind. And here I am again...this time for medical encouragement. Thank you, sweet and talented lady, for leaving this inspiring performance on your site. This version remains the very best!!!
OMG I didn't know anything about her career, I just knew her as an actress on some TV show and didn't even know that she could sing and oh boy she sings with such a powerful and beautiful voice, I am so used to the Liza Minellis version that I thought I was not going to like Ms Chenoweth version but what a rendition, what a performance. kudos to her and thanks to whoever posted this video. I jut googled her and she has an amazing career and with lots of awards and recognition in musicals etc. I feel like I have been living in another planet...... I am a new fan !!!!!!!
Какая она шикарная. Узнал о ней благодаря Ким Тэхену из БТС, смотрел его новый клип и среди рекомендации было это видео, я случайно нажал и не пожалел 🥰🥰🥰
I had an awesome dream last night where I met Kristin at a dinner party, and I got to tell her how much I love her work. Dream Kristin was very sweet and as charming as you’d expect her to be. So that was nice.
Can we appreciate how Mary is vibing at the back too? 😂 Anyway, I've said this millions of times and I'll say it again, Kristin Chenoweth, you are the best artist in the world. I love you so much ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow. All the feels with this one. I love her because I don't think objectively she has a tone that is very versatile, but she gives such emotional performances every single time and really sells whatever it is she's singing. I've yet to come away from a performance from her disappointed.
Until I saw this video, I was never a big fan of Kristin, but this opened my eyes. She is so totally immersed in the song, probably the best performance of "Maybe This Time" I've ever seen.
I play this every few weeks for the least 5 years.... I ADORE her voice. She's so powerful. God, I miss pushing daisies and glee. And Wicked NEEDS to be a movie
Girl sang this in my school college singing course and killed it. It was the first time I heard it and I was bummed I hadn't heard it until many years later. I missed out on knowing the song longer.
From the moment I watched my mouth was dropped till she finished. I'm convinced Kristen is one of the best vocalist out there in our time. Her range is literally infinity
Wow. Fabulous and very moving. She absolutely makes it her own, her own unique take on it. She was spontaneous, even. No easy feat, as 99% of everyone who does this awesome song does it with Liza over their shoulder, no matter how good they sing. Chenoweth did it as her, unique. :)
