Krisztina Egerszegi won three Olympic gold medals in Barcelona, the 100m backstroke, the 200m backstroke and the 400m medley. Affectionately known as 'the Little Mouse' in her native Hungary, which was a play on her name and a reflection of her diminutive size, Egerszegi became only the third female swimmer in history to win three individual events at one Olympic Games.

Keep in mind she was 18 then. She got a gold at 88 when she was 14 in the 200 back. Amazing

I wish she’d swum til Athens in 04, she’d still only have been 30 by then! She would’ve won in 2000, and possibly won or at least medaled in ‘04. She’d then get the recognition she deserves. She’s too frequently forgotten.

It was more important for her to start a family. I think it deserves respect she was able to say it was enough, I want to have kids now. She lives a very private family life. In her home country she is definitely not forgotten. She is forever in our heart and hugely respected. She is on the front page today because of her birthday and I just heard two people talking about her very kindly in the supermarket queue.@@Ineddiblehulk

One of the greatest swimmers we've ever seen - absolutely perfect backstroke form that she rode to FIVE individual gold medals in Olympic competition. Magnificent!!

An absolute genius! She is still and will forever will be the best female swimmer! Tracy Caulkins is similar but still doesn’t reach the talent of Egér!

Well, she is still one of the best female swimmer of all times in the world - not "only" in Hungary. In Hungary she is the number one - no doubt about it.

To be the best from Hungary alone is a huge achievement - they have some of the greatest swimmers in history; Darnyi, Kantinka, Cseh and more. But yes she’s actually one of the greatest ever regardless of country. Only Katie Ledecky and Dawn Fraser are ahead of her.

Regarding swimming, one thing I might be always missing is the Butterfly, as I never had the chance to learn it. Swimming is one of the most natural ways of moving, but Butterfly looks like flying in the water. Wonderful, spectacular and fast. Watching these videos, I always come to the idea to learn it. Great swimmers give hope and motivation, thank you, Egerszegi Krisztina and everyone who make these wonders possible.
