We never completed the game, but when we tested the engine, there was no problem using simple png images for the character. Or are you talking about the game engine, or Krita? The resolution for the game was supposed to be 1080p

Work with your developer! They can usually help you with the best formats. If you’re making the game yourself, I recommend PNG files with transparent backgrounds
