KRITA vs CLIP STUDIO PAINT 

UPDATE (Oct. 13, 2022) Apparently, Clip Studio Paint posted more details about Version 2 including prices and revisions from their previous announcements: www.clipstudio.net/en/news/202210/13_01/ www.clipstudio.net/en/news/202210/13_02/ This is clearer than the previous announcement, and I like the compromises they made. It shows that the company is reading the feedback which is why they are taking their time to respond with more information. Version 1 will be given support even after Version 3, and the discount to upgrade to Version 2 (or free if you buy version one this year) is not bad and the base version can be used indefinitely. In addition, the features for the base version 2 seem promising. The Update Pass still feels so-and-so since I don't feel comfortable losing new features I paid for after a year, but it wasn't as confusing as it was previously announced and the base features cover all of my needs as is. Since this video is consistently being seen and commented on, I think it's best for me to send this update in regards to Clip Studio Paint. On August 22, 2022 Clip Studio Paint announced that the current version (Version 1) of the Windows/macOS One-Time Purchase will no longer be receiving free feature updates on 2023 to transition to Version 2. It seems that in order to access new features in the future, users would need to purchase a Update Pass that would be valid for a year before needing to renew it to keep using the new features. From my understanding, it's like a hybrid between a one-time purchase and an annual subscription and as of writing this CSP is still planning the prices of these future changes. Although I understand that CSP did this to sustain development of the program, I still have mixed feelings towards it and its implications. The reason why I bought the PC license was because it's a one-time payment that I could keep forever with free updates. I couldn't afford to pay a monthly subscription, so this was a good option. However, this news gave me the impression that I am not paying for a one-time license, but one that requires annual payments to access future features. And while CSP said that you could still keep Version 1 forever without needing to pay additional fees, the plans overall rubbed me off the wrong way, and I'm not surprised if others feel the same way. That being said, I think it's best to remain calm and see how this would play out. After all, this news just came out today and CSP has yet to confirm or finalize the full details to their plans and prices. There's a chance that they may revise their plans that would benefit both parties especially since there are future versions down the pipeline. Besides, there are many options out there besides CSP. To start, there's Krita. It's free, feature-packed, and has a lot of good brushes. Just recently, I've been playing with the new sketching brushes which I love very much and its new features have been very useful😊. As for the time being, I will still use both CSP and Krita. My experience with both is still positive, and if CSP did sadly go for their plans I would probably just stick to version one until something happens. At the end of the day, an artist can use any good digital or traditional medium to make great stuff. The only limit is their imagination. As of posting the video, Krita already released Krita 5 Beta in their website! I'm going to try it out and maybe make a video about the experience. 2. My new webcomic "When Air Clones Rule the World" is now available to read in both Tapas and Webtoon! Both platforms will be following roughly the same schedule of uploads.

Krita is amazing, you can export animation sheets, install a million brushes,there's no limitation to canvas size, doesn't crash, for a free software it is just too good. The only problem I saw is that it lags a little, but nothing that really bothers me. But of course the paid ones must be better in some way

Clip is switching to a subscription based service, instead of a one off licence purchase I imagine that alot of people are going to switch to Krita because of this

I used both and I really love how my style changes depending on the program, it allows me to avoid getting bored of what I’m doing, and sometimes I started a draw on one program and end it on the other, it was just so fun!!

A huge downside when it comes to Clip Studio, it's not supported on Linux. Officially anyway. As an artist, Linux has increased my productivity a lot due to how responsive everything is.

i mean, krita just had a huge updateeee!!!! so a lot of new features have been added that a lot of other programs have so its on even footing now

8:23 I managed this by binding my tablet pen button (the one that's right click by default) to a key, and then binding that key to the pop-up palette I wanted (in my case it was the brush subtool so I could pick brushes like in PS).

It’s amazing that a program like Krita exists for FREE. However, if you draw on both PC, Mac, and/or iPad, then a subscription to CSP is the only choice. It’s a great program too, though, and cheaper than Photoshop.

for the linux users using KDE Plasma, krita integrates really well and can fit into your KDE theme, and colourscheme!

So clip studio is changing their licensing and making it subscription regardless of what you bought in 2023, for 2.0 and 1.0(current version) will no long receive free updates, and after 3.0 2.0 will not be updated, and 1.0 will be archived which means if the program breaks that's it.

I love Krita and CSP. Krita has much better brush engine and it's available for Linux. CSP does have better user experience, all the little things and UI just feel more premium and well thought. The reason for me to use Krita instead of CSP is Windows.

I truly feel like Krita is best for beginners, since that’s what I used when I was starting in digital art on my computer, then once I started to become more confident and wanted to go to the next level I started using clip studio paint (since it doesn’t require a monthly payment)

I make digital art with my laptop computer and mouse. I have tried Krita before, but the curves tool is confusing. I don't like it. I much prefer Clip Studio Paint. I miss Clip Studio Paint. Dammit, I am just going to buy it outright.

There are a couple of things you got wrong about CSP, i guess you just need more time with the software

Honestly, I tested Clip Studio, I tested a thousand different brushes, I tried all sorts of ways, but I didn't like it. The strokes don't come out the way I want, they come out ugly and unpleasant. I prefer Krita.

I would've said. Csp, but CSP doesn't work with compatiblity layers. 😭 Which disappoints me. If the devs make it proton compatable. No questions asked. Csp is better. I hate using Windows OS 10. Due to the annoying auto-updates!!!
