Krypto The Super Dog A Super Pet For A Superboy 

There are so many former Krypton inhabitants that I always get a laugh out of the “last son of Krypton” phrase - between the inhabitants of Argo city, phantom zone, and various super animals, it’s more like “the Kryptonian Diaspora”

Enough "what if Superman but evil?" It's time for the real storyline, "what if Krypto but evil?" Literally just Injustice but a dog becomes dictator

I would love a full Kypto retrospective as well as one for Ace the Bathound.

I feel like silver age concepts in general have seen a bit of a resurgence in recent years, as comics are moving away from trying to be dark and gritty. even Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen came back.

Yes I absolutely want a complete Krypto retrospective! Much like Lios Lane (and for similar reasons) Krypto can be a barometer of how writers think about comics of the era. It would be really interesting to see how he changes under those different perspectives

The Krypto cartoon used to give me life when I was younger.

Krypto biting Superboy Prime, drawing blood, only to fall moments later. Such a roller coaster of emotions in just a couple of panels. “See, he bleeds! He’s a man, not a machine!” (tear) Gets me every time.

"Clark doesn't want to take krypto to the Kent farm..." He know what happens to dogs who 'go to farms'...

Now I may be BARKING up the wrong tree, but Krypto’s first live action appearance was in Smallville, and even though the episode wasn’t exactly Shakes-PAW, it was quite the PAWesome episode. Now I will admit by the end of the episode Lois changed his name to Shelby, which was RUFF since Clark liked the name Krypto, but it was basically Krypto. But it was also the early to mid 2000’s, so they probably wanted to reTAILer it for a more grounded feel, like most superhero PUP-operates at the time. But I can FUR-give the name change, since I like rest of the episode so MUTTS… I’ll see myself out lol

I think you should do a deeper dive on Krypto than you've ever done on any character. Talk about the cartoon, talk about the modern appearance, talk about the fact that Batman trusts the dog's judgment! That dog has layers...like an onion. An onion with heat vision and a cape.

I would easily watch a Krypto retrospective. It would be interesting to see your thoughts on how they reintroduced Krypto after the death of Superman as an average dog that Bilbo saved and then vanished to make way for the original Krypto

I like how inconsistent Krypto can be, like he's an actual thing sometimes, or he's non-existent the other times. Hey now, we can't forget Shelby from Smallville, who was Krypto, except completely not (He was a genetically engineered dog experiment, that became normal at the end) but the promo material at the time made it look like Clark was gonna call him Krypto, and they never did! I mean, I know people who basically refuse to call Dwayne Johnson by his actual name, and just refer to him as "The Rock" lol.

The Krypto/Ace the Bathound episode of Super Hero Girls is one of my favorites. It's just so fantastically absurd. And as a bonus it features Harley's hyenas as the bad guys.

I have an unreasonable love for Krypto, like I have little faith the upcoming movie will be genuinely good but I’m also seeing it like immediately 0 hesitation. My boy’s getting a movie

I got 3 things. #1: Supreme had a super dog too named Radar, which had speakers he could talk through. #2: The 52 Krypto WAS a tearjerker story, Krypto saved the Els from Zod back on Krypton by pushing him back in the phantom zone and ended up there, so he stayed with Clark in that ghost form and at night he would lay his head next to Clark while he slept. #3: Lot of people didn’t know that Ultraman had a dog too named Ultro….which he killed out of boredom, Ultraman told this story while kicking the crap out of Krypto.

The Holy Ones & Zeros doesn't approve of crypto, but does approve of Krypto.

I prefer seeing Krypto draw like a real dog, but did enjoy watching his cartoon back in the day.

I still remember Krypto thinking that, "Well, at least she didn't call me 'Bark Kent'." line from reading it when I was nine. lol

Took me this long to even make the pun connection to cryptocurrency. Also for Krypto I do love the opportunity to further show the humanity of how Clark from his connection with his relationship to having a dog (especially from the perspective of him as a boy) along with him finding connection to his home planet getting a sense of familiarity with Krypto that just adds to the feels. As for superpets in general I like them, mostly for comedic reasoning.

Taking Krypto to the Kent Farm would be a problem because the Kent Farm was no longer the Kent Farm. In the Superboy stories, they had the Kents move into town when Jonathan and Martha bought the general store. Clark was old enough to keep his powers a secret so staying on the farm was unneeded. Also, the privacy of the Kent Farm wasn't the best for a recurring supporting cast. It was a lot easier for Lana to be nosy when she lived next door to the Kents, you know, on the same block (rather than 3/4ths of a mile down the road). Having the Kents stay on the farm, post-Crisis was one of the better decisions DC made.

I remember getting teary eyed by a Grant Morrison Krypto story. He is basically a ghost protecting his best friend. Jeez tearing up just thinking about it.

Sometimes I feel like I know the moments when you decide "this is going to be a rabbit hole I am going to jump down willingly". I feel like when you touched on Krypto in the Supergirl villains video was that moment lol.

My earliest memories was the Filmation Superboy cartoons from the 1960s. I remember envying Superboy for having a cool super dog like Kypto.

Jumpa the Kangaroo is still around, and can be seen in some parts of the recent Wonder Woman: trial of the amazons crossover. I forget if he was in the first run of the adventures of young Diana, a back up story in Wonder Woman. But I wouldn't be surprised. I think young Kal el was more traumatised into not marrying Lois by the time that time travelling woman turned up and kissed him. When he met Lois as an adult, the fact that she looked just like said lady triggered all the repressed memories....

The first ever thing of DC I remember is actually krypto the superdog cartoon. I love that I got to learn the origin. Super pets and want to see a retrospective cartoon.

This was so great! The bond between a dog and a person is genuinely profound...they are pure love! I have my own real-life Krypto...a 12 year old, all white Jack Russell Terrier. Yes...he has his own red cape & Yes, I hum the John Williams Superman theme while holding him up in air so he can fly! His "kryptonite" includes bath time (hates it), having to sit in the backseat of the car (wants to be on drivers lap) & doggie toothbrushes!

I guess that I like seeing Krypto and the other Super Pets in new as well as different perspectives because it makes it kind of more interesting too.

Hand me down Super Pet comics were some of my first ventures into the comic book world. I'll always love seeing more adventures featuring Krypto, Ace, Streaky, Beppo, Jumpa, and that weird protean blob I can't recall the name of, and I'm glad that the pets are coming back in fashion. As for a Krypto retrospective, yes, please, absolutely.

Technically Krypto made his live action debut on Smallville, Though only Clark called him that at the very end of the show. that's hilarious, Krypto in that one panel really does look like he's doing his best Martin Riggs impression from Lethal Weapon. DO IT DO IT! Give us the in-depth Krypto video, as long as it includes more made up barking sounds when reading his thought bubbles i am alllllll the way here for it.

Krypto died a few times in the comics... every one of them was heartbreaking

Krypto and Superboy were easily my favorite characters of all growing up. Others came into the #1 spot for a time regularly, but I always came back to them. I loved his Silver Age appearances best, and couldn't wait for them to come out (I'm thinking in reprints). I saw him each week on the Superboy cartoon and fell for him there first (which left my poor, wonderfully humoring dog having to wear a cape far more than she probably wanted). Even some later Bronzed Aged appearances in his own back series, why not my favorite of artists, was gobbled up once I discovered them. Byrne did a great job when drew him and his owner, but boy did he or whoever came up with their post-crisis Pocket Universe depowering and death disrespect us long time fans. Yes, please do a retrospective! Hopefully more pre-Crisis focus, but whatever way you do it I'm sure it'll be as well done as all the other videos dealing with my childhood characters.

8:35 Absolutely! I especially love the solo just-pets stories. There was a whole issue of DCeased with Detective Chimp narrating, it made me cry. Ace is wrapping up a 6-part story in Batman: Urban Legends #s 11-16 where he finally gets the spotlight back from Titus. 8:40 Yes PLEASE! 8:42 I love the Krypto the Super-Dog cartoon and wish WB/Cartoon Network would release the whole series on disc. I'm such a super-fan I want all his appearances on disc. However I prefer the realistic Krypto. I prefer the pre-52 / Rebirth Krypto (which I believe are one-and-the-same - if Clark, Lois, and Jon can cross dimensions and we know K-dog can, why would they leave him behind?) My favorite super pet is still Jumpa, Wonder Woman's giant kangaroo. I wish she'd make a comeback.

Like a lot of people here, I watched the Krypto the Superdog cartoon as a kid and loved it. It combined two of my favorite things at the time: dogs and superheroes. It’s such a fun cartoon. I was already watching Teen Titans and The Batman at the time so I was familiar of the DC Universe but the Krypto cartoon introduced me to the Superman side of the universe. So many of the old heroes and villains having pets that complemented them perfectly was so awesome and a lot of fun.

I know they've tried to craft "realistic" Krypto stories in recent years, and I'm thankful for that. Is writer Bruce Jones still around? He wrote some absolutely wonderful backup stories for Zabu the sabretooth in Ka-Zar the Savage back in the '80s. He'd be perfect for any super pet series.

Back in the early 60's my dad would occasionally pick me up Superboy & Batman comics. He liked reading them also. A couple years later I started getting Daredevil. I was fine with that.

I was introduced to Krypto in the old FIlmation series when they did their Superboy segments. He, Streaky, and Ace are the only superpets I really have an interest in. Krypto even gets this own super team when he joins the SCPA (Space Canine Patrol Agency, renamed the Dog Star Patrol in Krypto's own cartoon series).

Back in the day, there were several stories about Swifty the greyhound who sometimes had temporary super powers. Also, aside from the Legion of Super Pets, there were some silly stories of the SCPA-the Space Canine Patrol Agents. The costume was like a onesie with leggings. The SCPA stories were in Superboy comics.

Full Krypto retrospective, please! I liked him best in his Adventures of Superboy phase, when he became Skip, the Kent's dog. I will NEVER forget the dad joke he thought up when Martha Kent named him. "At least she didn't call me Bark Kent!"

I found out about Krypto and the superfamily super pets after watching the early 2000's Krypto cartoon and later fell into a DC Wiki rabbit hole of all the super pets of Supergirl's menagerie.
