Here we develop and test some missiles that are semi fire and forget. Everything is stock using KSP V1.2.2.
Sorry it took so long to upload a new video, had some computer problems. So I have to start from scratch...

I've updated the file on KerbalX for 1.12.3. Missiles should now have the track target option and the plane has flairs.

Can I ask how you select targets without going to map view? I target my test aircraft on my aircraft, but when I switch to my missile (it has a juno, two mk.0 fuel tanks, a radial intake, OKTO2 and FBW avionics hub), I have to redesignate the target all over again.

Hey uhhh, Go to settings and enable ‘Advanced Tweakables’ so you can not have your horizontal Stabilizer fall off of the fighter

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't, by subtracting where it is, from where it isn't, or where it isn't, from where it is, whichever is greater, it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance sub-system uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is, to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position where it was, is now the position that it isn't. In the event of the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has required a variation. The variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too, may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computance scenario works as follows: Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is, however it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subracts where it should be, from where it wasn't, or vice versa. By differentiating this from the algebraic sum og where it shouldn't be, and where it was. It is able to obtain a deviation, and a variation, which is called "air"

Have you tried setting a set of front fins to respond to the opposite turn? This would make it strafe to the target, like some kind of target predicted guidance/apn. With some tuning, I bet you can make a missile that tracks where the target will be automatically.

What exactly do you mean by that, I've been working on a few missiles myself and id really love to know your ideas. As of now my missiles lack either range or hit velocity and all 3 of my models (one using a jet engine, the other using 5 rocket engines and the third a hybrid two stage one, with the first stage a jet and the second stage with rocket engines but It has accuracy issues) are not explosive enough, I tried to cram a lotta small parts into the front to make a fragmenting warhead, didn't work, I tried using a beam, wasn't great either and neither does a cone help. In the air to ground missiles I usually cram the 0.625m dia fuel tanks as an explosive warhead but I cant cram 0.625m dia fuel tanks onto a missile that itself is 0.625m in diameter.

@@AnuragDDethe ah! The back fins in the video are responsible for turning the missile to the target. Imagine moving a duplicate set of fins in the front of the missile which move in unison to the back ones so it both turns to the enemy and naturally strafes to it like a magnet. This means that you can have some rudimentary target prediction guidance since the missile starts vectoring past the point where it's turning.

But then it would run out of fuel it would be useless for longer chases, or you could just turn on infinite fuel.

@@ignoremeplease1392 that's the point. If you are constantly propelled, you can be detected via radar and regular sight via exhaust. If it is unexpected, the pilot will not manuever

Well, I have made some missiles myself and I have found that using separatrons attached on the sides to accelerate at the last stage is pretty useful.

These would still be fairly brutal vs. ground vehicles. The fact that they are tail-chasers means they don't have the kinetic energy vs. aircraft.

I have put one of these rockets on a ICBM. Now I have a ICBM, which has a accuracy of around 2 Meters and can destroy a groundvehicle without warhead. My next task is to ad a Atomic warhead on it.

Wait, don't most A2As and ASMs use SRBs anyways? They don't need the longer fuel time of a jet or liquid fuel, but in real life (and presumably here too) they benefit enormously from the massive speed boost.

in the hangar you have at the top left a hook symbol (for construction) and right next to it a hammer and wrench symbol (for assigning the keys) so you click on the hammer and wrench symbol and there you can assign your keys example: you select custom1 (the number 1 key on the keyboard WHICH IS NOT IN THE NUMERIC PAD), you click on your thruster (by physically clicking on it) and you select "change mode" and so now you can change mode by clicking on this key!

You just have to right click on the engine and select switch mode or set it to an action group.

Try scaling it up and slapping an I-beam on the nose so you can actually do damage with it. As long as the thrust to weight ratio is above 1 then it should work. You might have to turn it into an SAM instead of an air to air missile if it's too big but then at least it will be able to take out planes.

Game updated: You need to use the nose cone with the ai in it (it should be under reaction wheels I think) then when you fire you get all the SAS options including the track target.

I used the OKTO2 but recent versions require you add the fly by wire avionics hub to get tracking.

MOAR WHEELS will solve it! It will make the missiles more responsive to SAS. Also add solar panels or a generator.

you open a save file of a craft you want to attach things to, then you click open but instead of opening the craft you want to connect you click connect on the bottom left of the craft file menu

You could attach docking ports to your engines and set the missiles to target those specifically to simulate the missiles locking onto the heat of the engines. Only issue is locking onto a docking port on a plane that could be KMs away in the heat of battle Perhaps you could simulate flares by addung probe cores on decouplers to your plane, then controlling the plane from them before detaching (idk if this works, just speculating) Or you could combine the 2, add a bunch of docking bays really close together to the engines, so it's hard to select the right one, then have the missile target what you hope is the right one

to overcome the issue with locking onto docking ports on distant vessels in the 1st idea, (assuming my 2nd method works) you could put a probe core really close to the engines and controlling from there. And then to simulate flares you clip multiple probes into one, then try to detach the probe currently in control (which is hard because they're all clipped into one) to simulate flares

@@HaydenLau. It's working for me, keep in mind that after switching back to the missile it will switch back to the "manual" sas control so after switching the sas to target and then switching it will track you until you switch back to your missile.

Use 4x radial placement (pie shape) and then just place them as shown, I'm going to upload my tutorial on these since he didn't do a good in depth one

Turn on the SAS by pressing "T", some icons will show up by your navball. Double click the craft you want to target. Click on the icon that looks like a purple circle.

no. the RTGs are the little power generators you put on a probe if you don't want solar panels

The RTGs are unnecessary for power as the missile has a battery that the jet engines keep charged. The battery lasts longer than the fuel when the missile is launched. RTGs also have a low impact tolerance of 7m/s so they don't deal much damage. I've tested the missiles with the fly by wire, it does little to improve the tracking ability and it adds extra weight.

By not connect you mean not target right? Are you using the correct SAS mode and is your missile probe body capable of the required SAS functions?

That does not look right two engines should be faster than one engine depending on engine type.

Those two engine have to push against a lot more than that one engine. Also dry mode is being used so the aircraft is not at max trust.

It's not about the number of engines, it's about the power of the engine, and the resistance of the aircraft The plane has 2 engines with more thrust, but those 2 engines are pushing an entire jet, complete with kerbal, wings, and a ton of fuel, and its large wings convert a ton of power into lift to keep all their weight airborne The missile has a single weaker engine, but it's pushing only a tiny tank, a light computer, and a small battery, and its tiny control surfaces cause hardly any drag and lift, so it sacrifices efficiency for speed.
