Interestingly your design #4 is basically the design a Russian company used for a STOL cargo plane. The high speed engine exhaust over the wings makes for very short take off runs.

It's not always clear wether you are crashing on purpose or having control issues. Designs 10 and 11 make it more clear but some of the early ones it really looks like youre just being a clown on purpose :-/

Ideally you would want the engines incorporated into the wing, taking some of the high pressure leading edge air and pushing it out the back, and using it to speed up (and lower the fluid pressure of) the boundary layer air that gets stuck to the skin at the top of the wing. What we have today are giant circular fans to reduce complexity, which are powered by the low pressure turbine stages of an axial flow combustion engine. Ideally you would want it to be electric (at ~90%+ efficiency versus 36% for GE90) and linearly distributed through the wing. It is more efficient to use a big slow fan to produce thrust than a jet of high temperature supersonic exhaust gas. Having part of the aircraft shaped like a cigar is not the most efficient for low power gliding (it doesn't produce lift), birds just need leverage for their pectoralis muscles and room for their organs.
