This is the best interview of Shelley Long I've ever seen. She really covered everything from her past to her future plans, from her personal life to her career. And she shows how enormously warm and likable she is. She was about 38 years old here. It's just such a shame she didn't find the right movies or projects to showcase her talent after Cheers. It was definitely tough for a female comedy star to make it in movies. Goldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin were two of the few at that time who made it, but even their careers hit bumps in the road. Shelley's most promising project was probably the 1993 sitcom Good Advice, but it was bumped from the fall schedule when she became ill with the flu, and didn't air until summer, which basically sunk its chances of continuing on. What a stroke of bad luck that was. I think we definitely missed out on getting to see more work from this lovable actress in her prime.
Plus, that creepy host made reference to the Twins celebration. They won the World Series in 1987 and he's probably talking about their victory parade/celebration.

Shelley's movie career never really did blossom after leaving Cheers after the 5th season as Diane in 1987 but at least she took a chance. I love Shelley in IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES in 1984 when she was still a regular on Cheers as Diane.
