Merci, j'ai des KT88 JJ sur un Primaluna Prologue 2 et les KT88 JJ ont un aigu brillant désagréable (voir leur site) Les tubes 6CA7 correspondent aux divers descriptions que j'ai lu. Son plus doux, défini et j'entends que la spatialisation est meilleure que les EL34. Les EL34-B TUNGSOL sont très bien, un aigu plus doux et son détaillé et bien tenu dans l'ensemble du spectre et grave ferme, mais une spatialisation moins bonne que des KT88. Le bon compris semble être des 6CA7. Les 6L6GC ont un son trop grave, trop d'embonpoint 😂
Essai des 6CA7 Electro Harmonix. Le grave trop présent déséquilibre le rendu sonore. Son pas détaillé, soyeux. Les voix sont en retrait... Et ces tubes ne supportent pas un réglage de bias chaud. Essayez les EL34-B TUNGSOL qui sont une valeur sûre, très défini dans tout le spectre sonore, l'aigu ne casse jamais les oreilles, grave ferme. Solide, accepté sans broncher un bias chaud... L'espace sonore est moins grand que sur des KT88 mais il faut pousser le volume des EL34-B TUNGSOL pour que le son s'ouvre et ne paraisse pas tassé avec de la musique classique.
I miss the Winged C St. Petersburg tubes, but for sound reproduction the 7591A made by Westinghouse was one of the most neutral tubes ever made, comparing favorably with 300Bs, 211s, and other large triodes. Luxmann even rebased 6550s to run in triode only. I think I'd take the welded plate Sylvania 6CA7s over any of the Siemens EL34s. Siemans EL34s were usually East German tubes made by RFT. Matsushita's 6CA7 (Panasonic now) was just a very nice EL34, made in Japan. These were partly manufactured on old Dutch and or English Philips/Mullard tooling with Japanese made glass molds for the bottles. True 6CA7s were made by Sylvania in the USA, and later in Korea. I'd avoid the Korean 6CA7s as they like to redplate and short out without any notice.
I've tried similar tests on my DIY (by a friend of mine) EL34 auto-biased triod amp (coupled by 0.22uf/600v capacitors made by Sprague for W.E.) with several pair of tubes which are: VT75 by Osram, kt66s (GEC clear glass, Osramsmoke glass wz brown base and black base), cv1079, VT79, 6L6 by otk, Groove tube, VT60A by GEC, EL34 Shuguang (red base), EL34 Telefunken metal base, EL34 telefunken single halo getter, EL34 Mullard xf 2/3/4 and DD getter. The best ones are EL34 by Telefunken metal base and VT75 by Osram. Among the cheaper ones I think Shuguang EL34 is a good buy.
This is a very interesting comparison for me while I own something like this. My set is a feast to listen to as long it are vocals and string/piano. When it comes to rock (or not so good recordings) the mids are to pronounced. I’m wondering for quite a while if KT120 (or any other valve) are an option for my set. My HIFI set (Kensington SE, PrimaLuna EVO 400i) drives with 8x E34. In your video I can’t hear well the differences in the colour of the sound. Because it are 8 valves I have to change, it will come with to big a cost just for trying. Can you help me by telling me more about your tested valves? Thanks
Thank you for watching. You have a wonderful HiFi set. On my set, I heard the following due to the difference in valves. Svetlana KT88: Powerful and attacking sound. high-range is slightly rough. Siemens EL34: Natural sound, Superb high-range. Lack of dynamics. Philips ECG 6L6GC: Expressive mid-range. Powerful and dynamic sound. My favorite valve. Matsushita 6CA7: Similar to Siemens EL34. I guess 6L6 could be paired better. Because technically they sound better than EL34 in this setup, but it’s flat and distant. EL34 covers you with a sound. The other two tubes were just tubes. Nothing interesting
what you are doing here is not presenting which tube is better sounding but rather which tube is better suited to the circuit in your amplifier which is fine but readers should not be mistaken to believe that the other tubes are of lesser quality as that would be a serious mistake to make.
