I can't believe this is the first time I see this!!! Wow, I love him... I grew up with him and didn't understand him till I was an adult

He never made it big time here in the states among English speaking audiences. He appeared in Around The World In 1980 Days back in 1956; Produced by Michael Todd, Cantinflas received rave reviews in that flick and it appeared as though he was about to become a household name here in America. But it was not to be. Cantinflas was slated to star in another one of Michael Todd's blockbuster films in 1958 but sadly Todd died in that freak plane crash. And his career, at least in terms of English speaking American films, never panned out.

@@MarianaBossRamirez Professionally speaking, it was. Cantinflas was very bitter about that- I guess he felt he had been short changed in a way. But at the time of his death, Cantinflas was worth over 400 million dollars. So, it's not like his career ended up in the dumpster, or he ended up broke or anything. LOL

Papito was there. I remember it well. Kept staring at at camara for at least 1 min. Ty you for great memory. Chaplin called him the greatest comedian he ever saw. Cantinflas askes me what type of Spanish we are learning and I reply, “Mexicano” Hahhaha. 1:39 of video

East Los Angeles grew up. So did people who were in grade school back then, like me. Helluva shame. If I could travel in a time machine I'd go back to that era and trust me, I'd never come back. That's the last you'd ever see of me.

Gran Mario moreno Cantinflas muy humilde y muy inteligente. Gran cómico de la época de oro del cine mexicano.

No era muy inteligente, era un genio. Busca lo que dijo Chaplin sobre él.

Wonderful footage ! Thanks for sharing ! The beloved Cantiflas was not only one of the world's greatest entertainers but also a great soul. From what I've read he was a kind gentle man who loved children & was very generous when it came to helping others.

My friends mother loved watching his movies! She was born in Mexico in 1920 and lived to be 100! I setup the computer for her and she was like a little kid again!

Need to add something also wonderful. After two years of discovering this video, I also see my sister at the 3:00 mark. Unbelievable. She’s older and doesn’t remember anything sad 😔

I think Cantinflas had been cast in an aborted 1968 English language film, THE GREAT SEX WAR.
