Nice video. As an aside for others, There are 2 electrical connections under the seat aft of the airfilter as well that allow you to connect devices, one live and one only live with the ignition on, just like behind the headlight. Duplicates of what is upfront. It is much easier to run a connection from either of them if you are not using them, than to get involved with the headlight unit removal for access. Done it this way on my 790r and now the 890r.
@@TrooperTed Hi Ted Firstly the way your did the gps connection is the neatest and probably the best way. I just never use the ones in the back and it eliminates the extra hassle with the headlight unit, which is a little finicky and takes time. Running the cable to the back on the frame is quick. Both work just fine. 790 v 890? I had my 790r for 1.5yrs and did around 25000 KM on it. I never thought I would say that the 890R is that different but it actually is a pretty noticeable improvement. I was never unsatisfied with the 790. Main differences for me was despite only an extra 100cc it has a bucket load more grunt. It also runs smoother and maybe less jerky when you are at low revs, think thats a result of the new crank that was introduced. The quick shifter to me as well seems to be more refined, maybe placebo, but just my opinion. 890 a wee bit heavier but not that you notice at all. Worth taking one out for a day test ride then you can directly compare. I got a good trade in on my bike so that influenced my decision as well to push the button.

I marshal some events so I have some strobe lights wired into the ACC1 connection in the tail, but it was very easy to wire in to be honest I just chased the wiring loom up the side of the bike and yes I did have to lift the tank, but only by a cm or so to allow me fish the wire through and wire to a switch on the handlebars. I already had the tank lifted slightly as I was installing a Rottweiler head brace kit at the time, so I just ground the wire off of the earth point on the headstock. Ted, thank you very much. I am really not experienced with working on my 890 Adv 2021 - but with your video it was really easy to install the GPS. In some forums you reads that the ACC 2 might be not free when having heated grips installed - I have them installed but my ACC 2 and 1 behind the headlight was free….

This is a great video. It made my GPS mount install easy. I have a question on the KTM wind deflectors that your removed. I do not have those on my 2020 KTM 790 Adventure R. Are these a factory item from KTM or would they be aftermarket? If you can send any links, it would be appreciated to the item.

I recently noticed my Zumo XT has intermittent loss of ACC2 power. I cleaned the Garmin power terminal pins and contacts on the ZUMO XT with contact cleaner. No luck yet. Next step is to check my connections. Have you experienced intermittent power on the Zumo XT? Great video. Thanks.
Thanks very much! No issues with power thankfully, but the connections would be a good place to start. Also worth checking the security screw for the power terminal is tight, if not, the vibrations from the bike/road could be causing it to move enough that it breaks contact with the XT?
Hi! Do you have any thoughts about using the switched or non switched cable? Thought it would be nice to be able to use the gps without the ignition being on. Just have to remember to turn it off 😅
Sorry Thomas, only saw this comment now. I did not want to use the non switched for 2 reasons: 1. I would 100% forget to turn it off at some point and risk flattening the battery over a day or two. 2. The Garmin GPS I have installed has its own battery that has a run time of 5-6 hours on its own, so when not drawing power from the bike I can still use it if needs be 👍
Thanks Ted for a neat, clean, to-the-point video. How is the zumo XT off-axis view? Will the SW Motech kit allow the Garmin to rotate more horizontally for a better viewing angle when standing?
Yes, I actually have it adjusted up quite high as I'm so tall, it was part of the reason I went with the SW Motech mount over the Vanasche Motorsports mount as the latter is not movable & I was worried about not being able to see it properly
Hi, my 12 v socket is not working, do you know if that one is connected to the ACC1 or ACC2 by default, if no, do you know what fuse is for it? I bought a used bike and that socket is not working, I watched you video to see how can I access the front wiring harness
Hi Luis, I believe the 12v socket is separate & does not share a connection with the ACC connections. For a video to see the connection itself, check out the rally tower installation video by RAID/GARAGE as they relocate the 12v socket as part of the work 👍
Brilliant very useful information for the install I have planned for my 890 advR ,only thing I missed so maybe not relevant was which female spades on the harness went to positive and negative from the garmin ( I know acc 1 is switched and 2 is constant ) but out of the pair of terminals which goes to what?

@@fiffyboo4919 Just re-reading your initial comment, I know you've an 890 R, but on my 790 S, ACC1 is constant, ACC2 is switched, not vice versa, so maybe double-check for your bike
