The Tamizh land of the ancient times is divided into 5 land types. Each land type has its own culture and lifestyle. Lord Murugan is the leader of the people of the “Kurinji” land type. One of his “Kooththu” forms is “Kuṭaikkūttu/Kudaikkoothu”, which is performed with a ceremonial umbrella, a royal insignia of the Tamizh / Indian kings. After defeating and killing Soorapadhman, Lord Murugan danced with his royal umbrella.
