actually the price for rail transport in KL is not calculate by length but by zone. you may get cheaper price for a more longer distance but can also get a much higher price for much shorter route but normally the price won't exceed RM6 i think for any single trip. you can change to several type of rail mod but the price won't get too much....
@JetLagWarriors

Wow! Ok, this is great info. If every trip is less than RM6, we would still consider this VERY affordable. We've been quite impressed with the public transport so far. This is something we enjoy comparing from city to city. Malaysia is up near the top.

Actually the writing on the back of the money is not Arabic. It’s the original writing script of Malay language before it was romanised. The writing is called jawi. it has Arabic characters and some of its own jawi characters made to adapt to the Malay language. It’s still bahasa melayu but in a different writing script. @kenchin4555
@kenchin4555 4 года назад
For further clarification, 1.8 million is population of just the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (ie. the city proper). The transit system serves the city AND Greater Kuala Lumpur, it's larger conurbation better known as Klang Valley which has more than 8 million people and includes also a larger part of the state of Selangor as well as the other Federal Territory, Putrajaya. For scale, only the Monorail line technically serves the city "Kuala Lumpur" in its entirety.

1:56 Yeah, same as Iran, they use Arabic letters to write and read in Persian. If you think about it, it is not as bizarre as you might think. As here in Malaysia we use alphabet letters (European origin) to write and read in Malay. Same with Spanish, French and German, they all use alphabet with some changes. Jawi is taught in school so that the knowledge won't die in the future. Same like Gaelic, it is taught in school as well but in certain part of the UK. Great stuff man. I hope you're enjoying your stay here in Malaysia. KL also has free bus services (GoKL) with wifi for those really really want to save money like students and low income working class. They are petty awesome too. There was another Canadian (The Cycling Canadian) did an extensive coverage on these free buses. You can check on his channel if you are interested of knowing more.

LRT and Monorail in Malaysia are pretty good. Komuter is a hit or miss, but generally are pretty bad. The Komuter trains are fine, it's just their complete inability to follow their own schedules that is a big problem for commuters. As for why we build above ground, it's because of two reasons. The first reason is that our ground is mostly limestone and building criss-crossing underground tunnels in compliance with safety standards is very expensive. The other reason is that we believe that building aboveground is more futuristic and elegant.

The Arabic Writing is called 'JAWI' which is the Malay Language written in Arabic writing. It is part of the History of Malaysia, as it was the official writing before the colonial era changed it to romanised writing. Malay was a lingua france in this region and JAWI was commonly used especially on money, coins, official transcripts of the government at that time.

Actually Malaysia is considered a not-so-populated country, hence the reason you still can see landed properties are still being built here and there... Skyscrapers are being built as a symbol of modernity and economic power in KL. Gauging the train itself was only part of it, try the bus and komuter train. The latter 2 are the ones connecting the biggest amount of residence in Klang Valley while having the least improvement over the course of 10-20 years. To sum up what you have said, I do agree with the train service to be good. But the public transport as a whole is not on the same level as what you could find like the one in Singapore.

Correction. The train maps for 7 mil in greater KL meaning including kl uptown, or Metro KL.(5mil) so KL in not what you see around downtown only. (1.8mil)

The Arabic character (script) on the Ringgit note is not arabic words, it is Malay word written in Malay Character (script) called Jawi. Before 1964, all malay writings (books, newspaper, Manuscipts etc) are written in Jawi. Before that we have our own Pallava and Kawi script before 15th century. Malay Scipt Jawi is still our official Malay scipt.

I’m wondering are certain lines you can transfer WITHOUT paying twice? That’s how it is in America 🤷🏼‍♀️I can’t wait to move here almost the same pics in NY I’ll most likely pay more then $70 USD per month if each ride is almost $3dollars 🙄🙄every day more then 10 rides. Also is their a direct train or subway that goes from KL to Penang? Thanks❤

I believe you got the old footage for Sri Petaling line (note the intro and B rolls). The line uses new red+white colour trains since end of 2016. The old trains were used since the 1990s and were replaced.

Does your Malaysian friend stay outside of KL? I was honestly surprised when he tried to top up the TnG card using the token machine. The RapidKL card was changed to TnG card since 2017 so most people that took the train for the past 3 years knew the difference between the older and newer machines. If he does stay in KL he probably drives around a lot and only bought tokens for the rare times he actually took the train.
@JetLagWarriors
@JetLagWarriors 4 года назад
Right! We are staying in PJ, but he has a car so he wasn't familiar with the token system. Thanks for watching and commenting!
