Most westerners have bad perception about malls, not sure why?? But people in Malaysia and most cities in SEA need the malls to avoid the heat from the glaring hot sun. We need the AC.😅. Most malls in Malaysia have everything from the high end products to affordable products.

Come to a mall here and see. Haha. They are very boring and stuffy. And yes, you’re right. AC in SEA is essential. The heat is real! Just know you have the best malls ever. You’re lucky!!

Not a bad perception. I once went to Redeo Drive in Los Amgeles & the shopping experience was unreal. I love it. They have hundreds of shops and it's all open air. The weather is also nice. In Malaysia the weather is hot so prepare prefers to do their shopping indoors.

I am Malaysian, living in Seri Kembangan, Selangor state, only 20 minutes from Kuala Lumpur. I do not like malls, I avoid going to malls if I am in KL or any major city in Malaysia. Malls make me sick & I am sick of malls. They are too big, too crowded, too flashy, too commercial, too high with so so many floors I have to clime, so crowded parking spaces, and last but not least, they are very expensive -everything they sell is expensive. If I want to eat in KL, I go to regular restaurants (mamak or Indian Muslim restaurants, Malay restaurants, Chinese Muslim restaurants), regular food stalls (like so many in Kampung Baru & in my hometown in Kedah state), food courts, night markets, fast food restaurants, for examples. I enjoy eating & socializing at all these places wherever I am in my country Malaysia. But malls, no thanks. I lived in US many years, had a son born there. I did go to malls, but only small ones with only ground level floor surrounded by huge wide expansive area of parking spaces, no skyscraper many-floors type of malls for me. In Japan where I lived a year, I actually avoided all malls.

I am not trying to sell KL. But it is truly a blessed place where luxury is made affordable, especially in the eyes of foreigners. This makes it one of the most preferred retirement destinations in the world with its relatively low cost of living and first-class medical care at down to earth prices. And it's a place where English is widely spoken.

I stayed in Peterborough for four years in the early 80s and used to go to Toronto once in a while. It was a great city. The only time after that I went to Canda was sometime in the early 2000. The major change is in its demography. I guess the diversity policy the Canadian government has adopted over the years has somewhat eroded the true Canadian values, especially during the reign of Justin Trudeau. I'm glad you like it here in Malaysia. Go explore the national parks, both in west and east Malaysia, and leave out the islands.

@yaaguu7
@yaaguu7 Месяц назад
That is a great attitude. It is not something I see very often in Toronto. The whole “happy holidays” politics is a great example of what I’m saying. We say that in the west not to offend people who do not celebrate the same holidays. Whereas in Malaysia, people are informed on the details and meaning of other culture’s holidays, and know how to offer the correct salutation, offer the salutation, and also often partake in the celebration as well. For example, Christians are a minority. But everyone wishes each other Merry Christmas and decorates. Nearly everyone celebrates Chinese new year, regardless of ethnicity. Malaysians are a very well informed and cultured people.

@paudireito Месяц назад
Interesting observations. I lived in Toronto til 2019. I completely agree with what your mentioning. I saw the city change and become increasingly expensive, TTC deteriorating. I moved to Montreal given its better affordability, vibrancy. Yes, winters suck, are harsher than in Toronto but at least we get snow removal which is non existent in Toronto. In Toronto, now you need to make at least 6 figures annually to live comfortably...not everyone is a lawyer, doctor, engineer nor want to be. I'd like to travel to Thailand, Malaysia as I'm thinking of eventually moving out of Canada. Being a gay man, I wonder how being gay is perceived n KL
@yaaguu7
@yaaguu7 Месяц назад
Montreal is beautiful but I really don’t like the cold. As for being gay in Malaysia, the answer to that question is quite nuanced. I’d suggest checking out this video I made about the topic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R6Piv2DZ0lE.htmlsi=xHVIpfOri5eJt5eH But basically, Malaysians are very accepting and loving. They are progressive but in most Asian culture and definitely in Malaysia it is not appropriate to show public displays of affection and to display sexuality (ie. wearing very revealing clothing, wear something that talks about sex, wether it be a shirt that says “SEX” or “I’M GAY”). Sex and sexuality is a private matter that you keep to yourself, regardless of your gender or sexual identity. There are no laws protecting queer individuals from discrimination, and, like many places in the world, sodomy is a crime. In the west this may seem unjust, but when you see the culture first hand, you realize the beauty in the privacy that far surpasses one’s desire to wear the rainbow or wear short shorts. What I’m getting at is: Malaysians are cool. They are one of the most accepting people’s on this earth. You being gay is not a problem. There is no active hate against queer people. But everyone there loves their discreet and private culture. Did this make any sense to you?

The priority here is for Muslim festivals. Not all non muslim festivals here are a public holiday but selected ones only. Hence, many local kids of non Malay ethnicity over a course of time here tend to not know their own cultures fully simply because their own parents were most likely brought up in the same way. Things get worse when your own parents / grandparents are not religious or spiritual and end up hindering you from learning the finer aspects of your own cultural background significances.

@yaaguu7 Месяц назад
Right now I work as a server at a restaurant. Tips are a good income and provide good enough living to travel if I don't eat out and save money. I don't know if tips would be as good in New Brunswick but maybe it's worth a try. If you're asking about what job I plan on doing when I leave Canada, I plan on being a RU-vid creator. It is a hard journey and not the most realistic, but it's what I want to do. I was learning Python and coding but I decided that I do not want to be an employee anymore because it doesn't suit my personality. But if you take the time to learn coding (you can go to school or do it online) then you can get a good job overseas. In the future I plan on making videos about my transition to moving to Malaysia. I. Basically gonna film. Everything in my life. My goal right now is to grow my channel fast to have a regular income. I don't know how long it will take. My goal is to move to Malaysia by the end of 2025. When I get closer to my move I will be posting videos about it on RU-vid. I hope I answered your question. What do you currently do for work?

As a Malaysian, food is serious business. You can have a viral "makan" place somewhere 200km way out from your home and still people travel to eat. That food can be anything, Malay, Chinese, Indians, fusion or indigenious. There's even niche branch of culture with Portuguese ancenstry with locals called Serani people in Malacca with their own unique cuisine. We celebrate almost 130+ days of cultural & religious holidays aside from normal Sundays. Your differences is respected here in Malaysia as a muslim country. Just dont go out of the way to promote weird stuff thats against our creed and way of doing things in local public and we are cool with whatever you associate yourself with.
