Cartesian Horizontal is, for the first time in a LOOONG time, my best attempt at an actually accessible album.
This project started because I've been in community college since Spring 2023 term. Among all the classes I've taken so far, I took Intro to Audio Recording and Electronic Music, both of which were three-term classes I finished last winter.
Since the beginning I've been using many tools to make my art stuff, for music it has mostly been REAPER for my DAW of choice. However my Electronic Music class was focused on how to use Ableton Live, something I have never used beforehand. The first song I ever completed in Ableton was Arpy 7s (included here as a bonus track) but even though that track is admittedly not that interesting, I pretty quickly got the hang of Ableton and ended up with some track ideas I immediately loved. So it excited me that for the Electronic Music III final, we had to create a three track EP (and a sample pack). My goal was for my project to be the first three tracks on this album, but in reality I didn't get track 3 to a finished state so I included Arpy 7s instead lol.
Additionally, for Intro to Audio Recording III, I had to make a song using recordings in an actual recording studio (and make a demo reel which is what that video was I released last winter). This resulted in the existence of track 5, made by recording a bunch of on-the-fly improvised pieces performed separately, which I then grabbed bits and pieces of to make this strange but beautiful audio collage piece.
School admittedly burnt me out when I was done with both of those projects, but after a while of doing other things I ended up expanding upon them to make this album. This album represents me, largely through the compromise of accessibility. I honestly am inclined to say this is my favorite project I've ever put out (second being Plaine :p) and I can't wait for y'all to finally hear it after all this time.
That all being said, this ISN'T the end. Although I consider this to be a full album, I have a sibling project on the way titled "Cartesian Vertical" that will have some parallels to this album. Keyword SOME lolll
