What kind of soil do yo have in your area? I added a Piranha tooth bar to my BX, and while it helps I definitely cant seem to remove sod nearly as well/easily as yours. Do you think the additional weights on yours makes a big difference with sod removal? It could just be operator error on my part. Ya know the old saying "The best mod for any vehicle is to tighten the nut behind the wheel".....Thanks
Hey Jeremy .. I can tell you for a fact that having a properly ballasted tractor to get all the weight/power to the ground certainly has helped my machine in it’s digging abilities. It may be because of that but also may also be that you just need a little more practice. What is happening when you try to strip sod? Are you having a hard time getting under the sod? Or saying under the sod? If your having trouble staying under the sod then weight will help but you also have to use the right technique to stay under it.. what I normally do is dig out a section the width of your bucket , like a hole.. to the debth that you want to strip.. once you have a hole dug at the depth you need then set the bottom of the bucket nice and flat inside of that hole and as you drive forward you will continue to cut under the sod and it will help you to stay at the same depth acting like a depth gauge. From there as your pushing forward you may need to adjust the boom up or down for high or low spots but only very very slightly.. so if I notice my tractor wheels are coming up on a hill I will boom down slightly as I dig, if I feel my tractor wheels are getting lower and lower tben I will start to boom up slightly .. this will keep yourself at the same height or close to it when stripping. Lastly it’s very important to get the feel for your machine and how hard your pressing the pedal to go forward when stripping.. this comes with time and practice to get the “feel” .. so when I’m stripping if I feel I need to add MORE pressure to HST pedal then when I first started then that tells me I’m starting to dig too low so I’ll boom up or stop, back up slightly , then boom up a touch, and then proceed going forward again. Likewise if I feel Iv lost pressure on the HST pedal then this tells me that the cutting edge is starting to come up above the sod too much, so then I’ll either boom down slightly and keep going forward as I wait for the HST pedal to “stiffen up” again.. or I’ll stop, backup and boom down slightly before going forward again. Once you learn this “feel” ans cocnept you’ll be stripping sod like a pro. As far as I’m concerned the ground doesn’t matter much or have much affect.. Iv stripped solid clay to sandy loom and everywhere inbeteen and I always use this method. You wanna use your first pass as not only a depth gauge but also a feeler gauge to how hard you need to press that HST pedal.. keep it consistent through out and you’ll be golden
@@BiffsEquipment Thanks for the pointers. I think for me it is a combo of things. I need more weight/ballast and I was also too deep. The tractor would stop moving and my tires would spin. I notices that the sod I did take off was pretty thick. So the answer is probably more weight and practice,practice.practice. Currently it just isn't something I do a lot of.
He is really good at what he does. I have a lot to learn with my lil bx1880. Have you ever thought of investing in a box blade and/or land plane for drive ways? You can do the job without them, but be cool to see you try a new tool. I've actually seen a box plane, 2in1. That be cool, to see as well. Then again with prices the way they are, I cant blame you for using what you already have. I bought my box blade with my tractor April 2022, and couldnt find anything else at the time because they were coming in from manufacturer, however, they was a waiting list. Now they are more readily available, but are 20%+ or more expensive then they were right before pandemic. I found my land plane from another dealer, about 45 minutes away and it was $500 cheaper than the cost of a new order. They had it in stock a few years so it had older price on it. I got it for around $950. Now, they are asking $1400+ for just the 4 ft. Crazy.
@@BigDsHomestead I have a 4' box blade that I use for my drive. Works well. I have also gotten better with the FEL removing sod. still not the best at it, but getting better

Thanks buddy! Omg it was a HUGE differnce. I actually had a good strong hydro pedal again and much better, smoother, and faster feed time and pedal reactions like it did back when the fluid and filters were not clogged haha. Should you rip up those low spots to take the rim of the low spot out ? Otherwise the new rock will get worn right off that old hard pack circular low spot pretty quickly. Great vid and glad your still making vids Biff 👍🏼

You must have many hours on that tractor, considering how precise you are with the loader. I have over 300 hours on mine and can never get a smooth level grade like you did. Fantastic job.
Thanks buddy I really appreciate comments like this. On my 3-point I run a “Farm-Ex” quick hitch with a custom weight bracket I built. On the weight bracket I have 8x 42lb weights which I feel is a perfect amount of rear ballast for this machine. I also have my rear tires filled and my hydraulic pressure cranked to 2,400psi and have no issues with lifting or staying stable now. A lot of my music is quite old, I found some on RU-vid and some from other places. To be honest I really need to update my music folders as it’s been like 1.5 years since Iv added anything new to the mix. It’s just very time consuming when I look for new music cuz I’ll spend hours trying song after song till I find ones I like. Best of luck buddy!
Great job! How do you advertise your services? I'd like to make some side income doing misc landscape jobs with my compact tractor but not sure on the best way to get the word out.
Thanks buddy! I do all my advertising by word of mouth. I started with doing friends and family’s work and then they would tell their friends and family’s and slowly I built up a customer base by offering good prices and doing quality work. Start small and work your way from there. I have also seen guys advertise using market place but I have never done that. Best of luck!
He didn’t want fabric, he does a pretty good job controlling weeds with weed spay that he uses otherwise I woulda. I put the stone pretty thick there so I don’t think he’s gonna have much issue accept for maybe around the very edges which weed fabric really can’t help there anyways. Thanks for the question!

Hey Ryan, I have over 1,000 hours on it now.. like 1,100 I think or 1,050. She’s in real good shape for it’s age (2013) and the insane amount of work and abuse I have put it through. This machine never has let me down, has never not started and has never broke down not even once to this day. It’s a fine built machine that’s for sure and I try my best to take decent care of it even tho I abuse it so much
Why do you fine tune something and then go over it and ruin it again?, Driving over it does nothing you're supposed to use a roller or tamper to do it the right way. Damn weekend warriors.
Iv done countless driveways and have never had a single job Iv done settle or go to shit with my methods.. that’s why. As for the walk way it was still low which was why I added more stone after it looked pretty decent on video because you can’t see from the video and angle how low certain spots still were which Is why I’d go back over them a second time after compacting with my tires in curtain areas. You don’t “NEED” to compact it with a compactor. The driveway already had a good base for one so that’s not needed, and the walkway didnt need it as I tracked over it multiple times before adding the top layer.. tracking over it has never let me down for soemtbjng like a small walkway. That pad I built for him that the shed is on.. to watch those videos, I didn’t use a tamper for that either and even showed you in this video how it never settled, not even an inch. So go bother someone else
I will never understand why anyone would buy a BX. Stupid hydro controls, hydraulics that hardly work at idle. The four that our school district bought did not serve us well. All older operators that did not beet on them, they are long gone.
