This was very helpful, thank you for sharing. I had a hydraulic line split open on me and ended up losing a lot of fluid, so I figured it was a good time to go ahead and change the HST fluid since I was already down about 1/3rd of where it should have been.
You’re very welcome my friend. Please consider subscribing and sharing my channel with your family and friends. It would be much appreciated. Cheers, Mike.
Yes sir. This wrench that I use is actually non functional. So I use it as a breaker bar bolt cracker now. Thanks for the comment though and yes you are absolutely correct about not using a torque wrench for anything but torquing bolts. Have a good weekend.
I was basically letting people know because as mechanically inclined as I see you are, I knew you knew..... Again thanks for the video because I have to get mine done. What was the final oil capacity?
@@53notneb I filled it as per manufacturer. 11.3 litres exact. Took it out and got it nice and warm, then shut it down and sat for 5 min or so and it was exactly full. So the manual is pretty accurate. Thanks for asking.
I just did the 50 hour service on my BX2680 this afternoon. The transaxle filter strainer screen was extremely clean, I figured I'd find a bunch of stuff on it like many other videos I've seen but it hardly had anything in it, so hopefully the filter actually caught most of it. I did the engine oil/filter, hydraulic fluid/filter, the strainer screen in the transaxle, and both fuel filters. I might do the front axle this weekend, and haven't decided what to put in it yet, says you can use either hydraulic fluid or gear oil. The hardest part about the whole service was the stupid fuel filter under the tractor. Although, that filter did have a lot of crap in it, the one up by the engine looked pretty good...I found a video about a cold brew coffee filter that will drop right into the fuel filler neck on the fuel tank, and I got one and put in mine, hopefully that'll catch any contaminants before they enter the fuel tank. I'll keep an eye on the fuel filter under the tractor and see if it picks up anything else from the fuel.
Thanks James! Yup really nice unit. Saved me a ton of work already and now I have the front snow blower for it. I’ll be doing some videos on that as well once we get some snow.
I have the same torque wrench. My understanding has always been that a torque wrench should never be used to loosen nuts, only tighten them to the proper torque. I have always followed this "rule" and I have never had a problem with the wrench. I have owned just the one for 15 years or so. I can't state as fact that this would help you out, but I have to wonder. Maybe give it a try? Cheers, and thanks for the video!
Hey thanks for watching my video and commenting. I have definitely drawn some attention to myself on this video. The 1/2 inch drive torque wrench I’m using is faulty and no longer works. It was never used as a breaker bar but now it is as that’s all it’s good for now. I don’t have a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar and I use this instead now. I do have a new 1/2 drive torque wrench now, but at least it keeps people talking. lol. Thanks again for taking the time to reach out. Cheers, Mike.
Odd place to put the filter. Do you have trouble with rocks and sticks damaging the filter and fan? Nice camera work. I can see everything without crwling under myself. Thank you.
It is a bit exposed for sure @tlm. I have an aftermarket skid plate that I didn’t show being removed. It covers the whole underside and is manufactured by tractor attachments.ca.
@@tlm3574 There is a small factory shield for the fan but not for the filter. The aftermarket one I mentioned covers everything on the bottom. I’ve been really happy with our Kubota it’s small but what a work horse.
Not really. The 1/2 inch torque wrench is actually faulty and the ratchet doesn’t work any longer. Wheel bolts were tightened to spec so who cares if you use a half inch drive or 3/8 drive. What’s your reason to not use a torque wrench on wheel lugs?
@@maintenancewithmike if the wrench still works and your using it to loosen bolts, it destroys the spring inside the tool and pulls the tool out of calibration. You are suppose to send your torque wrench out for calibration after a certain amount of uses, that way 10ft lbs is 10ft llbs and not 80. 😬
@@stevegrimeszz Yes your correct but as I said the wrench was already not working and needs replacement. But yes using a standard 1/2 drive to loosen the bolts would have been better for the video. Thanks for the comment!👍
The two bolts that came out were there if you wish to add wheel weights to the tires. Then you just use different long bolts through the weights and back into the hubs.
@@maintenancewithmike You have spacers so make sure it's not to much weight and remember that you can only chose one as the manual will tell you if you use weights you can't fill your tires and visa versa.
Was the measurement for the hydraulic fluid correct? Also if you spray Brake Klean on the Oring it'll dry up and crack, I was told that, wondering if that does happen?
Thanks for reaching out. I put the exact amount stated in the manual with filter change back in and it was just below the top of the cross hatch area. Once the tractor was warm I turned it off and checked again and it was right at the top of the cross hatch. So I’d say perfect. Another subscriber did point out to me the manual does say not to use a solvent to clean the strainer so next time I’m just going to wipe it down with a clean rag and put it back in. Funny thing is I asked a local dealer what they do to clean the strainer and they said they spray it off with brake clean. Lol. Me, I’m just going to wipe it off and call it good. Cheers, Mike
Thanks for watching my video! I’d agree that it would have been nice to leave the hydro fluid in until the 100 hour change but you just don’t really know until you dump the fluid and have a look. For me, the peace of mind outweighs the cost of the hydro fluid. Cheers and consider subscribing as more tractor videos will be coming out.
The Kubota service manual says to never use a flammable solvent to clean the screen. Only use soap and water and to let it dry naturally. Solvents in the oil will contaminate and are combustible.
I think you referring to a type of wheel nut drill? Like an impact? If so yes I could but I like the exercise and showing how it’s done old school. lol. Hey thanks for stopping by and watching @lcswartz49. Cheers, Mike.
Thanks for asking. These are the new style from Kubota and they are called an R14. Good grip in the wet and if you get into muddy areas they WILL get you out but they will leave a good rut! They last a long time and are surprisingly good on grass and gravel.
Never have and the manual does not indicate to do so. What’s your thought on this Herman? It will not drain out of the hoses if that’s what your thinking.
@@hermanpsnelling5264 The new flat face quick couplers will take care of everything. Super nice to use, no air goes in or fluids come out. Thanks for the comments! Cheers
That old torque no longer works so yes it is now a breaker bar. Mentioned this a few times in the comments and talk about it in the video. You are correct about not using a torque wrench to break bolts free, I also know this, but thanks for the comment
Hey thanks for the comment for everyone. I should have made mention of this in the video. Only reason I was using it to break the bolts loose was that ratchet was already not working and needs to be returned to the store for an exchange.
That’s a much nicer way to say it then some people have. That torque wrench was broken years ago and is only used as a breaker bar now. I have a new 1/2 inch drive torque wrench that is only used for torquing. Thanks for stopping by and watching! Cheers.
U kids that want us all to go to metric are just dumb. it is not just 11/3 L but 11.3 l is 1 gal. It comes in 1 gal jugs. just just use three of them. By the way u dont have to take the wheel off to get the screen out. It comes out with ease once u get it loose. One other thing u dont need to do this every time u do fluid. Just ever 1000 hr or more., I ask and the man said he doesnt bother with it until they have at least 2000 hr on them. I took it out for the first time at 1200 hr. It has a little stuff on it but not much. Will not touch it again for another 1200 hr or 4 yr which ever comes first.
I appreciate you watching and commenting. Don’t get me wrong I hate the metric system as well. Lol. You’re correct, the wheel can stay on to clean the screen. I took the wheel off as mine was nicely painted on with the grey Kubota paint. Next time I’ll leave the wheel on as well. Thanks again for stopping by and watching. Cheers, Mike.
i have the same tractor but no transmission filter. there is just a bolt present but no filter housing or anything. is this a new design? i have the 2019 model.
@@maintenancewithmike thank you for your reply. i have the bx23s model. the subcompact one. your video has been very helpful and i really appreciate you taking the time to show people how to service their tractor. i may be looking in the wrong place for the hydroelectric filter. is it in the rear of the tractor?
