In this video we share that we put the wrong Hydraulic Fluid type in our Kubota BX23S and this necessitated the change of our fluid and filter to Super UDT2 Fluid and a new filter. We share the proper type, capacity, and methods to change the hydraulic fluid.

Bought my Kubota from Davis also. They are great people to deal with there!

Yeah, I felt a little silly not catching it sooner, but I figure an hour of run time probably didn’t hurt anything…. Thanks for watching!

I just bought one and it was delivered this week. Practicing with it by moving my snow piles around. I seem to have a few of them to move. Thanks for the tip on the fluid. Take care: from Petawawa Ontario.

I understand that It is normal to have some shavings, metal particles, and pieces of RTV in the sump. Manufactures don't clean everything out after some operations and stuff gets trapped in the sump bottom and the suction screen keeps it from getting into the system as it should. When I did a fluid change, I used a smallish bottle brush to reach inside the sump where the screen would go to pull out stuff from the sump.

Good video, on the oops wrong fluid issue. I'm sure you aren't the only one that's done that LOL. Just subscribed to your channel too. Thank you, I'll have to catch up on your Kubota videos. I'm a new and first time tractor owner so any videos with tractor knowledge is a great help to me. That fluid isn't compatible with anything in recent years, its for old stuff, like you could use it in your old Ford N-Series, or old John Deere stuff. That fluid has been banned in many areas, surprised you found it. The warranty really doesn't cover much at all actually. I think the warranty on my BX2680 is only 2 or 3 years, and doesn't cover anything other than major mechanical failures due to quality control issues, not the oops stuff that we operators do to them...I do have KTAC on mine though, which somewhat covers operator mistakes but wouldn't trust it either. At only 10 hours on my BX2680 I've got a long ways to go for its initial service, but I may take it to the dealer for that, then everything else afterwards I'll do myself. I kind of do that with my vehicles too, initial major service I'll have the dealer do, after that I take care of everything myself.

This is good information to know. I operate much the same way you do. I try to do as much work myself. 1.) it’s usually cheaper. 2.) if it’s done wrong I only have me to blame. Hahaha! PS. When promoting your video it’s always good to stress to like, comment, subscribe, enable notifications, and share. The more people stay watching your video plus comments is what I understand really helps to feed into the algorithm and more people will see your content. I found your channel when I was researching the Kubota BX series. And I bought one! I love it. I just have a little 15 acre place. I decided I didn’t really need anything bigger. I would like to see Kubota shed a bit more shade on you. I guess a couple of hats is better than nothing 😂😂. God Bless and stay safe!

Nice job on the video! Did my bx25 recently...all the various fluids and filters. Ya, not worth cheaping out and taking a chance with the low cost fluid and filter replacements...save a few pennies, maybe wreck your machine. Don't forget about the front axle oil, I used 80/90 gear oil for mine...that or the kubota udt is what they recommend.

Thanks for the video.. I today changed my rear hydraulic oil on my bx 2380.. filter and cleaned the screen as you did .. I've got 334 hrs... But a Strange thing.. as they say takes 3 gallons of udt2.. but after checking mine many times scratching my head,,, it was not showing full.. I ended up putting in another qt. to get to my full mark....I know for sure i didn't spill no qt of fluid filling...yea its ok on full mark now ,,but took 3 gallons and 1 qt...strange huh...... Keep the videos coming.. i subscribed and liked. thumbs up.

Great video! I took the skid plate off to change my hydraulic filter at 50 hours. Guess I didn't need to. I'm anxious to see your repairs that had to make. I had to replace a tie rod o my BX23S. Nothing major 👍🏼

Not exactly expensive....you got money to buy these toys you should have the money to service them properly. Want to cheap out and buy the wrong fluids to save a few bucks, that's your own fault....Kubota recommends their fluids for a reason, because it works with their equipment. Not sure I'd just run to the local parts store and buy the cheapest fluids off the shelf for a $25k+ machine...it doesn't cost that much to buy the right stuff, and how often do you change it? Once in your lifetime if the machine is lucky that you took the time to do the initial break in service, most people never change the hydraulic fluid, they're lucky to change the engine oil once a decade...see a lot of machines in similar condition, worn the hell out with low hours because they cheaped out and didn't bother to do any services, or used the wrong fluids and burned up stuff.

Today I purchased, 3 gallon fluids UDT2 for rear diff, a filter was $85.12, ...,and 1 gallon 15w-40 engine oil and filer.$ 36.50. (oil has gone up a lot in past year) .. total around $133.46..tax etc... Also do most of my own service work ..it saves ..I'm proud to own a Kubota best on the market i believe. ..they are a work horse...

The guy at the dealership said soon as I'm out of warranty he has cheaper stuff that works 3 more years of warranty left I've had some issues wit my bx23s but a new thing that developed is when I hook up my front loader manifold the right piston doesn't move till I give it 2000 rpms never did it before does yours do it. I'm guessing sometimes the manifold don't plug in tight when I curl the bucket it bleeds back if it's on right it don't I dunno.
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead 2 года назад
I figure there are safe alternatives, but yeah, I figure if I have a major breakdown during warranty I don’t want them giving me a hassle. I haven’t had that issue with mine. What you suggested makes sense as raising the RPMs raises the pressure and that probably properly seats it.
@wildbill23c

Most likely air in the system, could be a leak somewhere. My dealer recommended to switch to the UDT2 at the first service as its synthetic and is supposed to last longer. Cost difference between the UDT and UDT2 isn't much, probably worth the switch, we shall see, only have 10 hours on my BX2680 LOL.

thank you for the video. But you left out a very vital part. You didnt bleed out the air in your transmission by just barely lifting the dip stick , turning on the tractor and pressing forward and reverse pedals a few minutes. You can cause damage to your transmission and hydro pump if you dont.

Did I not show that?! I’m surprised nobody pointed that out before now. 😳. Oops! I’ve actually done screen cleanings at several points up to this. The first 50hr check I had RTV and some little metal particles, but if I remember right, at this change it was clean. Next maintenance video I’ll try to show that! 👍
