I LOVE seeing couples work in the shop together! Getting my partner in the shop with me to do anything other than pumping the pedal to bleed brakes.. which he thinks is fun (go figure), he hates getting his hands dirty and god forbid he does anything remotely close to manual labor lol. Good work Lady Muck, I still do not understand why UK people call the 'bushes' and here in the US we call them 'bushings'. I had to make a new king pin for my micro excavator.
@DigbitsCoUk
@DigbitsCoUk Год назад
Bushes in the freezer is a great trick we've often recommended to customers. In the factory, when the excavators are assembled, certainly for larger stuff (10 tonnes upwards) they will have liquid nitrogen to chill and shrink them for fitting. The hollow ram is a very handy tool, for anyone running machines, something like that it a very sensible addition, but customers have had good results with home-made tooling using threaded bar and some old washers and bushes.
@CalamityKim1
@CalamityKim1 Год назад
Hi guys, The hollow rams are also very affordable now to be fair. The bearing removal kit I bought has threaded bar with thrust bearing to remove pins. It does work well for just a couple bushes.

Kim the limit of my mechanical advice for your very competent work, where there is something that needs holding when you need to hit it with a hammer, let His nibbs hold it for you...As you have the build of a greyhound & he is more of a cuddle collie i reckon you should get out the door first... Grease guns, funny ole thing about them back in my days on the farm, always empty when i picked them up, that was in the days of loading them from a grease bucket... 🤪

I am a total new bee. Can you tell me where you got this bottle jack and screw set up as a set?? It seems that you pulled and installed these bushings so effortlessly If i could i would take home too, lol. How long and how thick is the bolt that you are using to pull/push thru the hallow cylinder? I have seen videos people welding bushings to angle iron and also grinding them down then knocking them out. Let me know please as i am totally new, I love the way you worked
@CalamityKim1
@CalamityKim1 Год назад
Hello. I did do a short video on it at Christmas time. The ram came from zoro, the puller set was from eBay. I think the thread size is m20 or something. I got the largest thing that would fit through the bushes in the kit. Many different methods to be honest. I just do it this way mostly.
@homeland5686
@homeland5686 Год назад
Thanks for your reply, I did find and watch your video from around Christmas time I did see the bush bearing kit, but it seems that the BOLT you were using is much much longer than it shows in the red suitcase bearing kit, ( just purchased vevor 20 ton 4 inch lift (100mm) stroke ram jack) and want to buy 180-cp hand pump so I am hoping this is going to work for me, if you have suggestion for the pull push bolt I would greatly appreciate it, trying to keep cost to minimum Ram Jack $66 hand pump 45, kitc will cost close to $100.
