Glad they were caught, equipment recovered. As a 23 year security video expert I would adjust your cameras out and down. No benefit of 1/3 the image wall and sky. Also best to set up choke points with cameras set for identification. The cameras in your video would be considered situational awareness cameras. Identification cameras are low to get a vehicle/person ID and plates. More then happy to consult for you, no charge, if you have any questions. Would be my way to pay back for all of the great videos!

Good advice. Always fill the picture with what you need to see. Unless you're looking for UFO's in the night sky. I've also been in the security biz for a while, you know what else helps, a WELL LIT area. The brighter the lights, the less likely assholes will be casing the place. Also help to have schedules set for weird hours so that you'll get notifications from the cams. A phone call in the early AM, then you have the cops take a look, blammo, caught. A good combination of bright lights and a minimum of 4MP cams and you can get a lot covered. I prefer HikVision and Dahua cams and NVRs.

All fun and games until the thief just makes a jumper cable to go around the equipment they are stealing.
@ReadTheShrill
@ReadTheShrill 3 года назад
@@famousamoso7 If designed correctly, a normally-closed system would be very hard to defeat. You couldn't simply unplug it an stick on a jumper cable, you'd set the alarm off when it's unplugged. You'd have to cut the insulation away without cutting the wires, and then jumper the bare wires. Even then, you could use a capacitance sensor to defeat that technique. And anyone who knew enough about electronics to defeat the capacitance sensors (it can be done) would probably have a good job, and wouldn't be a thief.

Glad you were able to get your machine back!! This small equipment with mini-excavators, CTLs, and skid-steers is so useful and really has a foothold in the construction market but very easy to steal such as with the enclosed trailer. That trailer could be sitting across the street from your yard and you'd have no idea your CTL was in it!! The common-key is so handy between machines on job sites but obviously a theft-issue as well. Agree with the comment below as to security-camera coverage in terms of aiming. Perhaps a keypad with automatic gate would be helpful and then periodically changing the codes for those delivering parts or just restrict delivery hours like a number of other businesses do from say 7AM-6PM, etc. I work on many construction sites and the best have enforced hours to both prevent outside thefts and internal thefts between subcontractors.

Our local Kubota dealer suffered numerous thefts for a number of years. One night I was sent on a wrecked enclosed trailer. The dirtbags had gone into a curve too fast and left the road. The trailer was sitting there with the ramp down, and of course, was stolen. No truck to be found anywhere. I noticed faint mud tracks leading from the trailer going across the street to some buildings. In my best bloodhound mode, I tracked the marks, and hidden behind a building was three big mowers and a small backhoe. They were hidden from view. Thinking that they were going to come back and get the stuff, we put it under surveillance. 23 hours later they showed up. We let them load the stuff up and hit them as they were leaving. Funny thing? Not a single theft since that time. These dirtbags addmitted to new equiptment thefts in a fifty mile area over the past seven years. One got 17 years!! I despise thieves!!!!!!!

A good compromise might be to HAVE the key pads installed with options to remove. If removed by you guys the insurance company is notified. It's a cheap option to also have your chaps remove 'aspects' of individual units. Removing a hose or installing a chain on delivery and posting the item within a locked area will ensure that its not known how to move the unit unless one enters or opens the locked posting box. Just ideas. Stay safe and good luck with what's to follow. Cheers.

Glad the guys got caught. Too bad the company who owned the trailer wasn't so lucky. Sounds like that trailer is junk now.

Those of us who work really hard for a living truly resent those who steal from us for a living and we'll continue to improve our technology and other -- ahem -- ways of interfering with their attempts to do so. So glad you were able to get your equipment back, though I feel bad for the trailer dealer whose trailer got messed up.

I see DOT equipment, particularly tractors, on the sides of the roads for months at a time everywhere in my State, even on the sides of country roads in the middle of no where (roads that don't even have markers in the middle), and no one messes with them. Although I haven't seen Kubota!

I was a warehouse ops manager for a wholesale distributor for a few years. We had our own fleet drivers make overnight drops and pickups, but I had to put up the guard dogs and open the lot for their access. Commercial deliveries only occurred during business hours. I lived within a few miles of there, so I'd leave the house around 3am and get back home around 4am. The best part was the Krispy Kreme that was on the way home. Hot doughnuts off the conveyer, cup of coffee, morning newspaper, and I was ready for a couple more hours of sleep. Good memories. Fair winds and following seas to all.

Our local Kubota dealer uses an extension cord alarm system that snakes in and around all machinery. Apparently when you unplug it the alarm goes off.

Worked at a Cat dealer in the rental shop years ago. Standard practice was to leave keys in all the equipment in the yard. One weekend, local high-school aged kids decided to joyride almost every machine in the yard. Could have been serious injuries or major damage done, but luckily none of that happened. That Monday morning there was a new company policy regarding keys.

I didn’t think that trailer was up to the job but there are enclosed trailers that could be though of course. This one was probably 7K total rating. Which really leaves like 5K of capacity at best.

@@xephael3485 better plan would have been a tractor trailer with a low boy. Painted in Kubota colors to throw off any nosey cops. Have lookouts along the roads with walkie talkies to call out anyone driving by.

Inside job... and suddenly the plot thickens lol, glad to hear a somewhat happy ending as that’s not often the case in these situations. I hate the idea of having to chain up equipment, use cameras, gps tracking, chipped keys, all of it just to still have a machine when I wake up, so THEN I can go to work and make enough to be able to pay the bills

Was in construction. Retired. Don't know about certain things but what we would do on a suspect sight is take away a few spark plug cables (gas of course) from the vehicle. All of our newer equipment has dead man switches as well.

Looks like he left prints all over that machine so I would start there but that's super crazy I'm glad you guys got it back so soon would suggest putting all of the equipment behind a better fence just to reduce this risk in the future

Nice to see you got your loader back. Great looking machine by the way. Petty theft for a piece of machinery that must cost $10's of thousands of dollars? Seems like a small charge.

It is good to hear about the recovery. The bottom line is that the consumer pays for this type of theft. Insurance only pays for a small portion of the 'professional' theft of Equipment. Uncovered portion of these thefts are the 'time' employees have to cable the equipment. The manufacturer's MUST improve the equipment security with a numerical keypad and authorization numbers only sent to safety trained operators of this equipment.
