Nothing more cinematic and exhilarating than SRK in his long coat jacket hurtling down the summer camp bridge and Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram is amping up, and Anjali is doing anjali in the puja with the whole camp audience, and it builds and builds till he bursts in. That’s the scene i go back to, to remember the highs that we love to expect from Bollywood movies, the dramatic flourish which is Bollywood’s language. Bhansali does similarly kinetic dramatic movements but much more designed and contrived (still good)
I'm quite surprised your podcast has not blown up yet. It's soooo much fun consistently and I find myself always sticking arouns for the complete conversation. Wish you guys good luck!
In defense of Rahul, it is possible that he got busy with wife her illness and then with daughter. When he met Kajol again slowly his heart opens. Emotions are like this, you never say never. I am surprised young girls like you thinking it can be only friendship love or nothing else. Real life is transitioning.
Abbas, it’s time for you to move on and either find a new host or host the show yourself. Your insights into films are both refreshing and nuanced, demonstrating a balanced and open-minded perspective. Your behind-the-scenes work is evident in the clear structure, thoughtful analysis, and well-organized points you present. In contrast, Urjitha's approach has become overly predictable. She consistently lacks empathy towards male characters and her critique revolves exclusively around whether female characters have agency, should have agency, or did have agency. Her habit of interrupting guests without apology has grown tiresome. Her commentary is stuck in repetitive patterns, focusing on outdated tropes like the r/niceguy and who's an ally or not, often with minimal research. It’s clear that this is a secondary pursuit for her rather than a genuine passion. While the show features a diverse array of guests, Urjitha’s presence invariably steers the conversation towards predictable topics. As movie enthusiasts, we used to appreciate the show for its deep dive into film trivia, stories, history, and the broader context of cinematic moments. Urjitha's contributions have reduced it to a singularly fixated op-ed piece than the analysis of a film.
Kjo took the Yash Chopra heroine and killed her in act one. KKHH maximized the Betty-Veronica trope. College hotties used to be vamps or snobbish bitches who had to be brought down to the ground by the hero - Kjo flips this with Tina being hot and sanskaari and shaming Rahul for his judgemental ways. In K3G and SOTY he reverted to the college hottie being silly and snobbish even, but glad he gave Tina a lot more depth and grace, like a Yash Chopra heroine, who can understand the man she loves even before he understands himself. Protect the Tinas of this world
Girlss... let the guy speak... I am all for hearing the girls opinion, but i think hes made some really valid points so please lets hear him out. Esp on Rahul- Anjalis friendship and the Rangeela trope... Urjita's completely missed the hype that it was.... i still remember my parents didnt take me to the movies thinking it was not age appropriate for us. And I am with Abbas on the picking Rahul over Aman, bcos of the passion and the love. If she'd picked Aman - itd be a KANK. But as usual, a fun episode.
24:08 Totally disagree. For me, it's much better to fall in love with a friend suddenly rather than 'ooh sparks' or whatever. Especially, if you grew up single. The feeling is unrequited and neither Khan's nor Kajol's character could handle it, that's the point. But her leaving college was an overreaction, that I agree. Also, it's been a while since I watched the movie but I'd thought she was switching colleges, not quitting altogether.
Typical case of psuedo feminism: Whenever Urjita/Priyam has opinion: You go girl., Yeah female power, We are doing dissection. But when Abbas has any opinion: Oh tharki has a opinion, he only likes the movie because hero gets 2 girls. Why do we care about men's opinion. This is like watching reverse misogyny, where girls condescends the guy. We are here to hear all three in the podcast not just two girls, let the man also speak his opinions.
Do you mean in todays age boys pick ugly girl over hot? This is a very personal trait and not depend on the era. Any era you will find man who pick hotness. In any era you will find man who value person over looks. This is not related to age. Again Rahul’s emotion can evolve, I don’t think his emotion were only because she became beautiful, he was alone, he got matured, he seen life, he meet old friend, even when we meet old friends who are not in touch we get very happy seeing them. They had connection, friendship so when meet during different circumstances emotions gets developed.
_KKHH_ is one of the apex predators of a genre I call “watchable cringe.” But peak cringe is SRK’s on-screen “laugh,” which is easily one of the worst acting performances I’ve ever seen captured on film. It’s just painful, and like all the performances, it’s made even worse by the fact the movie is dubbed, rather than shot with sync sound. (Ugh, dubbing is the worst. Dunno how y’all put up with it for so long.)
50:22, I actually chalked it down to 1. he was single and just wanted a "hot" biwi again 2. he needed help raising chhoti anjali. absolutely selfish motive for getting with kajol, basically
I think it’s over analysis and projecting personal woke beliefs on characters for virtue signalling, Rahul is shown as a naive flirtatious guy who runs behind beautiful girls and he finally sees a pretty girl and falls in love with Tina and decides to marry, Anjali who has this deep friendship has a realisation that friendship is love and she sees that Tina might take her place and she might loose him, and is heart broken and decides to leave. And then Rahul sees the same beautiful women in Anjanli after she has the transformation but now has found the true love since there is already a bond as well of friendship, I think it’s shows evolution of characters and what true love is based on characters belief system and their life experiences and I think it gave a great message of friendship and love. We can’t accept everyone to behave a certain way always, else all will become the same. The woke virus is dangerous and I think people should see others as people work in progress and not take some superficial identity as only this is the right way to think putting some adopted beliefs on the pedestal, just saying as this seems to be the larger conversation amongst all your podcast and maybe it’s not growing because it’s not authentic and genuine. Of course it’s entertaining in bits and pieces but there is a lot of scope to break it down more objectively from the lense of the character and not what your beliefs say the character needs to do or behave.
1998 was the year of Salman khan because he had 4 hits more than Shahrukh who had only Kuch Kuch hota hai. His 4 hits were Kuch kuch hota hai Pyar kiya toh Darna kya Jab Pyar kisise hota hai Bandhan Infact 1999 was an absolute Salman year with BiwiNo1, Jaanam Samjha karo, Hum dil de chuke Sanam and Hum saath saath hai.
0:00 the fact that actress like #Sridevi #JuhiChawla #RaveenaTandon #ShilpaShetty #PoojaBhatt #MadhuriDixit #UrmilaMatondkar #Sonali #Aishwariya even #Twinklekhanna didn’t wanted to be sidelined to kajol later rani did it
More than kuch kuch hota hai it’s hum aapke hain koun that changed cinema and inspired Aditya Chopra and karan Johar to make such films.. anyway team AMAN anyday
