They call themselves Diné, which means The People. To the rest of the world they are known as Navajo. Creation stories tell of struggle and evolution through three spiritual worlds, and finally emergence into this world and their present homeland, Dinetah. A homeland defined by four scared mountains; Mt. Blanca in central Colorado, Mt. Taylor in New Mexico, the San Francisco Peaks in Arizona, and Mt. Hesperus in southwestern Colorado. It is an area covering 25,000 square miles and the largest reservation in the United States. Its landscape includes national treasures such as Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly.

I miss my childhood days when I used to stay with my grandma in the Chuska Mountains in her Hogan. listening to the pine branches blowing in the wind light came from kerosene lamps, cedar burning in the stove, water from a spring well. Boy, those were the days. Days when I had a very clear mind not cloudy with modern living.

I am full blood indigenous aboriginal Maori. This word Maori means the colour of my skin. When l was born l was Ma means the purist white. Ori means my skin as an adult is brown. Maori language is spoken backwards from right to left. My own people were slaughtered like sheep and cows. My own people welcomed the Europeans onto our marae as welcomed visitors. Gave them food to eat from our hangi pits and a bed to sleep on. As proud Maori we followed our customs and beliefs. The same night they came into our wharenui means sleep house and slaughtered my people while they slept. How can you call civilization a way of life. When all it means is godlike scavengers are still practicing their evil spirits that only Europeans understand this colonization. There will be a time on earth when no more will exist only their remnants.

I was not more than 2 minutes into this program and I was also comparing how similar this unforgivable, inexcusable history is to the current activity of the Israeli settlers in Palestine. We average Americans have frightfully little control over the actions of our government but I will exercise what little power I do have by voting against the ones currently running things, who chose to officially support Israel in their forced displacement of the Palestinians. They did not have the right to do so, as it is supposedly a religious debate and religion is supposed to have no sway in our government. They did not speak for all Americans when they did this. I have nothing against Israel, until very recently, I had a great deal of admiration for their struggles and achievements. Wrong is wrong though, no matter what authority they are acting under. I can't imagine that God gave anyone his blessing to force people from their everyday normal lives, destroy their homes and render them countryless and destitute with no way to care for themselves or their loved ones. This would be the same God who gave my people the right to do this to the Native Americans. I don't think the authority claimed by the settlers was legitimate or what God had in mind in either scenario, but I suppose that is why I am an Atheist.
@eltfell
@eltfell 5 лет назад
Palestinians don't understand anything. There was no loss of land, the Palestinians gave up their land. There was no genocide, the number of Palestinians has exploded. An no justice - ask the Hamas and the PLO. The Palestinians played the game "all or nothing" althoug they could have had their own state since 1948.

I focus on making my children and grandchildren being happy from head to toe they are so so scared to me and the future of the culture. I love being 1st nation, many people out here still dont understand our unique way of life, who we are, our belief, especially our personality. Usually people that dont respect themselves or there way of life are one to attack.. Be safe and carefully I ❤ my Culture being native.

Christ stated, "What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?" and, "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You can't serve both God and money". This is the 'true' Christ, who stated to "love your neighbor as yourself", and these invaders who pillaged, murdered and tried to destroy this culture never knew Him, never followed Him...for they served money and themselves.

Nope, know your history before you comment, after Hweeldi or Long Walk, we came BACK to and signed the Treaty of 1868. The ones who can't say they've been there for hundreds to thousands of years is the Creek and all the natives from there, who went on the Trail of Tears, and FYI, only a few Navajos went out of the THOUSANDS here. And we are so-called descendants of the Anasazi, so... we have been here for thousands of years, not hundreds. Ahe'hee

I do respect them for holding onto traditional beliefs and lifestyles. However, Native American are so prideful of their culture that it hinders them because it is hard for them to separate themselves from their tribe to pursue something greater. For many, wanting to increase your standard of living is considered selfish and from that, jealously arises: mainly from member of their own tribe. Also, for some, there is a fear of leaving the reservation. If you ever been through any reservation, you can see it’s desolate and outdated. This is due to no economic growth and their geographic locations. Reservations were intentionally placed in areas lacking vital resources (fertile land, water, population.) Also, the few business that are located on tribal land are either owned by few tribal citizens or the government. There is almost no competition; which is essential for increasing peoples’ standards of living. New laws and regulations should be in place to ensure business to flourish. Furthermore, they should adjusting their tax system to be more competitive and re-evaluating their court systems, along with solving other small impediment issues. I honestly don’t see the tribal government opening their land to other privately owned businesses because that’s less financial aid from the government, leading to less money in their pockets. In reality, the best thing they can do to better themselves and for their people is to leave the reservation all together, because that was the governments’ initial goal. Keep them there.

Tyrell Tunney It's difficult to find online Sir, but you can search peyote songs, or chants to get something similar. It's a common chant used in the beginning of many late night blessings.
