They are super adorable, same thing happened to us when my partner and I were upgrading our community fishes tank we couldn't find one of our last loaches, we looked all over the decor, plants, the substrate, and even the room to see if he jumped out, but to our surprise he was just hidden in the substrate really well for about two days! I yelled excitingly to my partner that he wasnt gone and was just hidden really well in the sand 😂 hes still happily swimming with his other schooling buddies seeming unfazed or not really hurt by being there for quite a while

I love my little wiggle fish. I gotta say that I got a group of 6 and they also like to come out during the day and wiggle around. They usually run away if I get close to the aquarium during the day but if not I see they squirming around to find food in the front of the tank.

I have a fishtank in my room and put a few tetras and 3 kuhli loaches. It was a 5 gallon tank so when the tetras died and so did the loaches a few months later I thought I lost all of them. Not feeding cleaning doing anything to that tank just letting it run for 7 months. Yesterday I finally decided to throw the tank away and when I went to take out my decorations there was still one in there. I will cherish him with my life. He cannot die. I fed him all the food he could handle and now he’s happy. He is my king. I worship him. For he survived the survivor. By sheer will he survived.

For someone like me, who loves Ferrets and Snakes (and kept/keeping them both), this is exactly why the Kuhli Loaches caught my eye. I am more into reptiles, but recently started with Aquariums too. It started when I bought a waterplant for a watergarden-display, and after 2 weeks I found some little snails in there. So what do sane people do? Toss them out... leave them be and see what happens...? Well I decided to buy a whole Nano-Tank for them lol. I will add some shrimp soon since they are just adorable. Apart from that I am not really too much into regular fish, but when I saw the Kuhli Loaches, my heart made like a little jump. Now I fear I have to start another tank with some of them lol. What did these 2mm big snails do to me XD

Solid information poured out here, kudos to you! Just to share, my observation of loaches in the wild reveals their mysteriously skittish behavior of darting about in the tank which you've highlighted in this vid. Loaches are active *micropredators* with a keen sense of smell & just about the only reason they move is actually to hunt! And they are not at all shy. For example, here in Singapore these loaches are native to forest streams & are endangered. Here, amongst mulm & leaf litter on a substrate of gravel the loaches scrutinise every crevice found on the bottom aggregate. For microorganisms like ostracods & cladocerans. And it appears to me these loaches don't need to eat a lot to get by. Once a Pangio spp. loach has something to munch it'll take a break by remaining still (usually under a leaf) for a while. So, overfeeding is not a good idea with these guys. Yeap! That's what I saw. Cheers.

I moved them to my 20gallon so now I have 17 Kuhli loaches thriving in 7.0ph & they're super active, everywhere you look there are Kuhli loaches, big & small. I have the same story with an old aquarium, it had been torn down for at least 4 months with water just deep enough to cover the gravel, no pump no heater.. I was scooping out the gravel to wash it ... and lo and behold there he was! I felt terrible and cleaned the tank out and popped him back in and he lived for years. I have been unable to find them near me for the past ohh.... 5 years? So i was thrilled when my local pet store ended up with 1... yes one... So he has no buddies yet, but I am hoping they get in more soon! Great starter fish and one I started with years and years ago as a complete newbie. When I had to sell the tank in order to move to a smaller place, I caught all the fish that I thought I had; removed all the rocks and plants and drained it till there was only about an inch of water left. I then scooped out all the gravel into a bucket. Lo and behold! When I was about to tip the remaining water away, I caught a glimpse of something swimming in the dirty water. My kuhli loach wasn't shy, even when she was living alone, got her two buddies and they became very active. They go around in the day and forage even though i only have two hardscape decorations. Though i have good plants for them to hide there favourite places are under the prefilter, inside the barrel, and under the gazebo which i placed carefully that they can slide under. The gravel i was lucky to have softer clay based but I had no idea about substrate when I did get them. Just lucky to have them thrive

I recently received 2 from my mom for my tank and they are the best little critters ever! I named them Spaghetti and Noodle. Spaghetti is smaller with one singular spot between two stripes by his tail and Noodle has more spots along his back which a bigger tail. Spaghetti is the more social one but Noodle plays hide and seek with me. Every time I spot him he'll duck down and find a different hole to peep out at me from until I find him. I love my little wormy dealies.

Mine don't hide all the time, even during the day! I can often find them snuffling around and perched on the fake plants. Spotting them is a game.

My friend who has a fish shop and who had studied fish in university says that's it's normal for Kuhlis to swim up and down in an aquarium at times if they feel save and happy. I keep mine with my Betta, cherry and amano shrimps, danios, guppy's and red rummies.and a few Harlekin Rasboras. All harmony

If you keep them in larger groups they’re way more lively and brave. I love them. Generally shrimp safe too I’ve heard.

Tau Neutrino I was just watching your video again where you were talking about bringing them home and your surprise how they were out and brave, I started thinking that they’re probably a little more brave in your tank because you have the floating plants so they feel kind of like they’re in a cave or something. I’ve had them before and I never paid attention to anything other than they do better in groups if you get two or three you may never see them but if you get eight or 10 the kind of push each other out and wake each other up I guess and they just feel more comfortable, that and cover. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you took all your floating plants out, if they would be so brave with direct light coming down. 🤔

stumbled across this video, sat here watching my khulis swim around. Its funny everywhere recommends sand, 300L (65 Gal) tank has a dedicated sandy area specifically for the kuhlis but they spend more time in the tetra active substrate on the opposite end of the tank.

Many years ago I had a khuli loach in a tank with goldfish. No heater, no light, no "live" plants (just plastic) He lived for many years and was a great entertainer. He/she, was out and about during the daytime light and not at all shy...How times and species have changed.

I think Kuhli loaches are awesome, and I think of them as miniature eels. I have Seiryu stones, and I noticed they shifted the sand around the one stone and created a cave. They constantly go in and out from there. Furthermore, I truly enjoy seeing them entangle themselves within the Java fern roots. I was quite amused seeing how your loaches entangled in the frogbit and came up to the surface to eat because mind never does it. Lastly, I recently bought Panda Garra, and I must say, I think you will enjoy that rare type of fish because they are small exceptional algae eater as well as super active.

RU-vidr KGTropicals , actually talked about a Plecostomus that was forgotten in a tank (by his childhood friend) for about six months ... no food no filter no nothing for 6 months and then when the water evaporated the fish started splashing and was rescued to live some more years... amazing

I had one in my goldfish tank as a child. Never knew the true name, we just knew it was a loach. Recently, I was looking for one to add to my new tank. Went to 5 different stores, including a few speciality stores and no one had a clue what kind of loach I was describing. Said I was confused and loaches don’t bottom feed or look like that. I need to show them this video. I now have a tank with 2 dwarf frogs, 2 snails, a Japanese shrimp and an algae eating shark. But I’d love to find and add a loach to the tank too.
