In this video we are going to make a mini kukri knife (Gurkha knife), just using a hacksaw blade. Tools we are going to use are a broken hack saw blade and a marker pen. Consumables are sand paper, scotchbrite and 5 min epoxy. This video is to show that, you don’t any sophisticated tools to make something.
I am going using the brass back plate from this old lock to make kukri knife. Rough sketch and cutting lines are drawn. I am holding the kukri knife against a hand rail to cut it. Bulk of the material is removed using hack saw blade so that later, sanding will be easy. For sanding I am using a concrete surface, sand paper is a better option. Water is added doing sanding so that the knife won’t heat up. I am surface grinding both the sides of kukri knife to make it flat. I am sanding to reducing the width of the hacksaw blade to cut the notch. Now it’s time to cut the fuller line or the groove. I am using the end of the hack saw blade to cut the groove.
Now it‘s most difficult part, cutting the bevel. I started with cement surface but I end up using sand paper. Main handle material is rose wood. All the parts are fixed using 5 min epoxy. Kukri knife handle is also finished using sand paper. I am making the kukri sheath or cover from this plastic box. All the three parts of the sheath are glued using epoxy and sanded. Sheath is cover with artificial leather from this box. Leather is also fixed using epoxy.
