My father was in 21 Kumaon. Retired in 2004. Originally from 5 Kumaon ended the journey in First Among Equals through 20 Kumaon. Unfortunately he missed promotion to Subedar Major as he suffered from heart attack just before 6-8 month of his promotion. Proud to be connected with Kumaon Regiment.

15:16 sir it was Subedar Chandra Singh Basera's effort for this regiment . You may not accept the truth , during first world war subedar chandra singh led dogra regiment and won Mesopotamia war. Britishers used to hate Kumaonis and did not award Victoria cross, and was awarded 'Indian Order of Merit' so in return chandra singh asked for pure kumaon regiment with cultural identity. You may not accept it but we Kumaoni consider Chandra Singh Basera as father of Kumaon Regiment

My father had his last posting here in Ranikhet. Feel very nostalgic about dis place.Major Gaurav you did not talk bout AMC.I lost a very dear friend Poonam Shukla due to some stomach problem.She was d daughter of Brigadier Shukla . Best Army Station one could b in as an Army Personal.

An Infantry soldier OR Officer never leaves his parent regiment at any cost,only bad officers are posted to other units on adverse reports. Generations of officers proudly serve in the same regiment or Battalion. Like the Brigadier whom Gurav Arya is interviewing, is the third generation in the same battalion, BUT since he could not withstand the rigors of infantry and military life particularly in Kashmir, he chose to shed uniform for a safe and peaceful civilian life.Major General Ian Cardozo is a shining example who preferred to serve in the Army even after chopping off his own leg after stepping on a mine during the 1971 war when he was a Major serving in 5 Gurkha.That is what is known as a classic soldier NOT a soldier who dodges Army service in the face of danger and when at a safe distance, turns back to impress on others about Military life. There have been very brave officers in teh Indian Army like General Shahbeg Singh and many others , Why then a deserter taking on to become the spokesperson of the Indian Army????? Gurav Arya was commissioned in March 1994 in the Indian Army and joined his unit in April 1994.He was boarded out from Service in early 1999 therefore served in the Indian Army for only four and a half years. During 1996, barely with two years of service he became a casualty in an avalanche in the Sugar Sector on the Chinese border after which his medical category was downgraded to Category CEE. Excluding the time spent on training and in Hospital he has a ground service of less than two years only !!!!!! Does it take this much of time to become an expert on defense matters?? NO SIR !!! And by the way his promotion to the rank of Major was temporary because he had not attained the minimum service to become entitled to a substantive rank of Major. He left the Army on teh day he was given the temporary rank of a Major. With such a shallow experience and service the erstwhile Major has become an expert on Military and defence matters, probably because India does NOT have qualified and experienced former officers to speak. OR because senior Officers like Air Marshal (retd) M.S. Bawa and Maj Gen (retd) Atma Singh, prefer to tell the truth and not to violate their integrity. No Doubt the old timers were examples of military ethos. Gurav Arya has gained prominence only because he is a Pakistan hater and spews out venom against the Kashmiri Muslims. He justifies the Indian Army's atrocities against the Kashmiri youth calling them agents of Pakistan. His advice to Pakistan is tantamount to an illiterate person teaching his elders. In the military language it is termed as "Teaching papa to F**K."
