The real beauty of the film is in seeing without knowing nothing about the content. The beauty of this screenplay is in opening the details slowly to the viewer like the petals of a flower. Anupam Chopra is killing all that experience by revealing a lot of the content. It's absurd that she doesn't understand this basic thing.
While bobby SHAMELESSLY Yells "I AM A MAN" to baby in theatre , The movie playing there is Arjun reddy. Each and every scene is a sheer brilliance in this movie.
*2nd best till now Super deluxe deserves no. 1 spot among the movies released till now. Asuran and Jallikattu are movies coming up which might change this.
The foreign cast is a black woman, if any other industry think of foreign cast lady, it would definitely be a white woman. Thats why we love our industry, and push them to bring fresh content, thinking & creativity. Thanks for the review mam
amals007 this is so true!! Every other industry will only care about getting the whitest looking almost model look like type of female. I don’t even remember any other Indian industry ever casting a black woman as one of the main leads...
@@annagutirez5973 nammalum dark aleee ? We live like 'thammil bedham thomman' ! Still an average malayali is obsessed with fair skin ! Facial bone structure ,health , facial features nothing comes above the actualy dark but fair skin that a mallu thinks ! 😒
What's the problem with whit women..?? If they can do justice to the character then why not..? recently in a Tovino's Malayalam movie they cast a white women for a important role.
@@nazeemameen1253 Yes it is but its not a big deal in this film.. Her race or color of her skin do not add any value to her character.. Even if that girl is from another state in India, it will work.
Big fan of Malayalam movies even though i have to watch them with subtitles. Always feel Malayalam and Tamil movie industries capture the local essence best and bring out great stories all so frequently. 😀
Ya as a tamil I think our content movies show the tamil culture in it and it makes movie more wonderful But sad that they are pulled by some shitty commercial movies
This was due from her side. I didn't expect Anupama will come out with the review of a Malayalam film, even after hell lot of recommendations and good reviews from all over India. Let good things happen!
@@VK-vd8fg Jallikat was released after the oscar nomination date , so next year it wil get a chance. Yup either Kumbalangi or superdelux shs hv sent to oscar
How many mummies and daddy's do u have ..asked by heroin was the dialogue from another movie..she is a movie freak in the movie..she tells as a joke but it really hurts bobby
@@pradeepsukumaran1 Bobby actualy pretending there like he doesn't take that joke seriously. But on inside it did hurt him which is evident from his tears..
You are awesome Anupama. I sincerely believe that you are trying to bridge the north south divide. Other Bollywood celebrities and reviewers should take a cue from you!
Bro, she is someone who hasn't watched many Malayalam movies that were made in the golden era of the industry! She is someone who doesn't understand the caliber of Mammootty and Mohanlal and hasn't even watched their notable films; and if she is doing this it's becoz of digital media and the reach that she will get when she talks about a popular regional movie, that's it!.
@@sruthink5921 in positive way, its a good thing to our industry, will help our films be accepted in online platforms. And its a pleasure seeing that the whole nation talks about our films. We never seen like this before. Malayalam and bengali is the most creative ppl in India. (Films)
One of the best movie i have seen this year for sure. Everything was great. Malayalam cinema is on a another level...hats off... bollywood movie goers don't realise what they are missing..
What Bollywood do is stealing the characters from South and replacing them with the comic ones. The role played by Akshaykumar in the Iraq War Airlift story was an industrialist from kerala, but what we made to see was a comic or rather unkind character played as a malayali in the film. The irony of all is that the director of this film was a malayali!!!
"how many mummies and daddies you have, I want the complete list before sunrise" is the dialogue from another malayalam movie 'Two Countries' (that was a fun scene in the movie) which she uses here in the same spirit.. but it unfortunately touched/hurt him.
Top 5 life lessons from Kumbalgami Nights: 1. When you need help ask for it: "both men have psychological issues, but when Saji comes close to the abyss, he realizes he must help himself: he goes to a doctor to cry out his emotions. Meanwhile Shammi insists on being “a hero”. 2. Crying is not sign of weakness but courage to move on with clarity: Shaji breaks down in Doctors room- Normally Men holds a lot of emotions inside them and do not express it. When Shaji breaks down in tears he lets go of all his guilt he has done in life and that opens up the clarity and courage of taking responsibility of his late colleagues wife and her son. He also starts caring for her like gifting her saree as shown in the song EZHUTHA KADHA. 3. Love over financial security- Baby accepting Bobby knowing that he is poor. She gives love a chance rather than money. In the last scene while bobby is rescuing baby the look on Shammis wife face when he displays his care and affection for Baby shows what she missed in her marriage with Shammi. 4. Blood is thicker than water: when the brothers see BOBBYs love gets away from his life due to Shammi they all reunite and stand firmly behind Bobby for his last attempt to win over Shammi. 5. Happiness and energy in a house is governed by balance of male and female energies: Franky always wants female family members as he feels it makes the family complete. Nylah first enters the house, followed by Vijays wife who Shaji brings in. Things start shifting in everyones life and soon it is followed by Bobby getting Baby in the climax of the movie.
Thank you mam I watched this movie after seeing your review.I am very happy after seeing this movie. This was masterpiece.plzz review such type of movies.

Men can cry too. Men do cry too. Let them have their space to relieve their unshed tears. It's refreshing to see Ms Chopra review an interesting movie like Kumbalangi nights.
The translation of saji's comment as "fatherless" is wrong. Fatherless is a neutral term which doesnt carry any offence. Correct translation of the word is "bastards". It is important to understand the pain brothers feels as it is trying to imply that their mothers had multiple partners, portrayed as a matter of shame by society.
There is a scene where the family starts to unite and new things begins...a shot of cactus with a flower Blooming. Decipits real efforts taken to direct this gem !
The number of layers in this movie is mindblowing, and taken with so much care! The more u watch it, the more u love them. They all make u laugh, smile in love, cry in pain and what not! I am curious to know if there is any other movie so artistically and meaningfully taken.
Waow... A Malayalam movie review by anupama Kumbalangi Nights its a great movie Please do watch more of malayalam movies & review it...would love to hear from you
Just finished watching Kumbalangi Nights on Prime. Loved, loved, loved it! Such brilliance all around. Phenomenal performances. Refreshingly original story. Breathtaking cinematography. Thank you Malayalam cinema. Next on the list is Uyare!
indrani chatterjee you will adore “ Uyare” and definitelyany of Parvathys or Fahadh movie. Along with this also try “ “ Bangalore Days” and “ Iyobinte Pusthakam”
When bobby tells his friend ( lookalike of Vinayakan) that he thinks the girl has fallen for him, he replies that he better stop playing mammootty and grab the chance. I missed it initially and in the subsequent rewatching sessions I noticed what that dialogue really meant! I guess mammotty is usually known to possess a little jaada (attitude) and that's what he is referring to. Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways this film is full of subtle humor like this ,and I love it !
Thank you Anupama Chopra for including this gem of a movie in your list. This is a film to be watched again and again. The more you watch, the more you decode the scenes. My personal favourite was the one in which Saji brings the mother and the newborn baby home. The way the camera focuses on her, the sunlight across her beautiful face - just like Joseph (foster father) bringing Mary and Jesus ! 💕💕💕 Edit 1 : The scene is at 3.04 Edit 2 : I have done a cover of a small portion of a song from the movie. Feel free to check it out !

I am a malayalee and Malayalam is going through a very green patch in these recent days ....and the greatest thing is that Malayalam movies rarely cost more than 10crs but are so technically good ( of course , not much is spent on Gucci bags and prada dresses which is the staple I f any Bollywood movie ). And recently Telugu has also improved with movies like evaru , agent said srinivasa athreya being good logical thrillers
Nothing wrong with the climax. Shammy's dialogue during fight seen "Shammy hero yada hero" lost all the punch and inner meaning in subtitle translation. That line only a Malayalee can fully understand. I think best possible climax for this type of film.
one of the best films ever written. the character development and the interaction between the characters deserve to be studied in film schools. its just the best film ever produced maybe
I dint even know about this movie untill I read somewhere that this movie should have been sent to the Oscars instead of gully boy. And when I saw this film I totally agree that this movie deserved to be sent. Who knows it might have made to the list as well.
Virus Sudani from Nigeria Uyare Take off Bangalore days Ustad hotel Charlie Drishyam (malayalam) Jomonte suvishengal Premam Kammatipadam Vikramadityan Perambu Traffic Kappela Jallikettu Anjaam padira So many more malayalam movies tat I m not even able to recollect.kerala has got mindblowing movies
Vikramadityan and Jomonte suvishengal are pretty overrated. Better let us not get confined to new age movies and go a little backward. Guru, vanaprastham, Thanmathra, Pathemari, Thaniyavarthanam, Kaliyattam, Kadhavasheshan, Manjadikkuru, Vasthavam, Drishyam and so on
Vikramadityan is crap. That heroine character is one of the bad written characters in a Malayalam movies. She has a already seen virus and i dont think it deserve a place in 50 of her best films.
@@abhig7267 yes both vikramadityan n jomonte suvishengal were so inspiring and showcased beautiful relationships. Friendship, power of passion n dedication n positive healthy competition in former n dad-son relation n importance hardwork in later.
You have to watch this movie multiple times to fathom the depth and layering of the story. Every time you watch you have a different perspective, interpretation, nuance that you failed to notice the previous viewing. And it will take pages to write about the under tones and the world view projected by this movie.
Thanks Anupama.. I added it to my list of must see movies after you posted a video on Kumbalangi Nights.. and I watched it today.. AND I LOVED IT.. You are on dot about the climax..
Could have include that wide shot, that saji taking his friend 's wife and son to his home in a boat.. That shot along with the music is really touching. 💜
I love how she reviewed the movie. That's everything I felt when I watched it too. And yes i admire her for pronouncing all the malayalam names perfectly.😍
Kumblanki nights is really awesome. Each character is wonderfully made. No one is a failure. We could watch it 10 or 15 times. Each dialog is so apt. The climax is wonderful. Thanks to everyone who worked in this film. This is second to 'Chemmeen'.

Like they ignored Pariyerum Perumal, Vada chennai And Peranbu..and recognised Uri.. this year they have Manikarnika and pm. i’ve lost all the hopes🤷🏻♀️ Sure win for k nights wll b the regional category, and for other categories, we need some magic to happen..🤷🏻♀️
‘I found the climax tonally jarring’ !! Exactly ! I felt the same while watching the movie from cinema hall. The whole film until the climax was like wavelet in the river. I might b the only one who didn’t like the climax of the movie but Fahad made the climax extraordinary even though it was tonally jarring.
Prasoon K I preferred Shammi killing everyone and the ending being very melancholy.. but for the first time in a Malayalam movie they wrapped it all in a bow with a happy ending...
Please do watch kammattipadam, the movie mainly tells about two friends from their childhood to adulthood but it is so much more than that . In climax there a 30 -40 seconds long dialogue that felt soo deep .I recommend to see it
Indeed a beautiful film worth watching !!! It made me crave for watching more n more Malayalam movies , it was a huge pleasure watching all these excellent movies during lockdown ! Now hate to watch pseudo bollywood films 🤢
Thank you, Anupama. Absolutely loving this new series; makes time in the kitchen less dull. Not a quintessential movie buff, but your reviews truly make me want to give these films a try.
Nimisha Medhi once you watch Malayalam movie Bangalore Days, Ustad Hotel and Charlie you will be a huge Dulquer Salman fan I guarantee it!!!! He has taken my heart away and the guy can act..Start with Bangalore Days. I think it’s on hotstar and prime streaming

Although I am writing this comment to applaud FC and Anu for spreading such beautiful films to a wider audience, I want to leave a hint of complaint regarding the very low frequency and consistency of such videos...
Ma'am it's not called father less boy. It's worth they are called bastards (sorry for language) that's the reason it hurts them all. And movie is a awesome art of emotion and ppl sentiments. Great work been done by all the character in the movie.
U know what malayalam films are good no doubt but for their success I would like to give credit to their malayali audience who are ready to accept how small or big movie it is and tamil movies are also little bit better in this and tollywood and kannada movies audience are also starting to accept. Every industry has good movies it's just we have to encourage them by watching their films in this matter malayali movie audience comes fast who just doesn't watch for the sake of big banners

@@avalokitesvara1989 there were several tell signs that this guy was going to burst out anytime. So many nuances. The football hitting his bike, him condescending his wife's uncle, his brother not riding along with the sister in law coz he knew the antagonist will hate that, his need to take control over everything at house even gossips at kitchen, the way he fiddles with the knife while shaving the hero etc etc etc. Literally every scene the antagonist is shown tells that he's a freak. The movie psycho had only 5 mins of violence, and its considered the scariest movie. So its all about perspective
