I am a retired woodworker but have kept my shop intact . I make odd things as a hobby now and give them to my friends and relatives. I have watched many U-Tube videos of wood projects and methods and have learned a few things that have helped me. Your video taught me more on how to improve my methods than any video I have seen. I know very little of the art of making Kumiko although I do at times have to make small items of wood that require angles on the ends. Your method off sets my failing eye sight problem and I thank you for the solution.

Thank you sir, it is my pleasure that this was helpful to you by any means! I am sorry for your sight issue and wish you the best of recovery! Thank you for your comment and time.🤝

Beautiful jig. One of the best designs I have seen. Can you tell me the dimensions of your dado? And the dimensions of your stop block? Thank you for sharing!
@TheWoodCrafter1
@TheWoodCrafter1 3 года назад
Thank you for your comment, the dado is 3/4” wide and 1/2” deep, the stop block is 8” long and 3/8” thick to make the screw flush with the jig to allow the jig to set flat on the workbench when it is flipped over .

@TheWoodCrafter1
@TheWoodCrafter1 3 года назад

Search for Japanese jig for making kumiko I am sure there are people out there who make them using hand tools only.

How do the two 67.5 angles differ in length? And please tell me the depth of the 22.5 and 45 angles as well. Excellent jig and great video.
@TheWoodCrafter1
@TheWoodCrafter1 3 года назад
Thank you for your comment, please check this book issuu.com/bluehillspress/docs/978-1-951217-24-2_issuu this should help you better understand why! still, this is optional and you can use only one but having 2 (67.5 jigs) will make it easier and faster. About the 22.5 and 45 depth? if you mean the groove depth, that also depends on the thickness of the Kumiko strips that you will be using. hope this will help you. good luck

I wanna ask about the blade you use in the first cut (IAM beginner)

You mean the table saw blade? That I used to cut the angles on the kumiko jig?

Do you sell plans for this?
@TheWoodCrafter1
@TheWoodCrafter1 2 года назад
Hi Jim, I don’t sell plans, however the dimensions are shown on the video, just use a 3” or little less thick material nothing critical or secretly concealed here, if you can cut the angles accurately then you are in business, the rest are all approximate, the depth and width of the dados are 5/8” and 3/4” also that depends on the size of the kumiko you will be making, you can go with 1/2” for both! Just focus on the angles and leave enough material to rest your chisel or hand plane on. Best of luck
