ABC's of Kung Fu SAN SOO
By Grandmaster Bill Lasiter Volume 1
Kung Fu San Soo (功夫散手) is a martial art based on techniques from all over China, both Northern and Southern Chinese systems. The 5 Family Fist (五家拳) is an important part of San Soo, and is commonly practiced in the Tasishan region of the Guangdong province. Grandmaster Chin Siu Dek (Jimmy H. Woo) was responsible for bringing KFSS to the United States.
Jimmy H. Woo, didn't believe in the animal styles and hence focused and taught only the 5 family styles, (蔡李何佛雄) Tsoi Li Ho Fut Hung. In his own words he said, "We fight like men, not animals." The KFSS premise is there are no rules in a fight, so the techniques are oriented to remove a threat as quickly as possible. There are no competitions or tournaments for Kung Fu San Soo.
Grandmaster Bill Lasiter became Kung Fu San Soo's Grandmaster in October 10th 1997 after the passing of Jimmy H. Woo in February 14 1991. Bill Lasiter was one of the first Americans to be taught the Art of KFSS by the late Jimmy H. Woo. GM Bill Lasiter, has practiced and taught this Art for over 56 years now. He has taken the art of KFSS and adapted it to modern society. With the emergence of MMA fighters and Brazilian Jui-jitsu GM Bill Lasiter has modified the Art of KFSS to include fighting on the ground; but still keeping with the KFSS premise, that there are no rules in a fight. It is a version of KFSS that does not exist elsewhere.

Grandmaster Bill reminds me of Jack LaLanne. Zero external/internal power has been lost with age. That Man is Deadly.

I have this video and others of GM Lasiter, he is a great Martial Artists! However, as a practitioner & teacher of Kung Fu San Soo for over 30 years and a practitioner & teacher of Original Kenpo (Chow/Tracy's not Parker's) and Japanese Jujitsu for over 50 years, in my humble opinion he looks more like an Original Kenpo practitioner! I don't mean this as a criticism, just an observation! His blocks, his use of hammerfist to the groin & back knuckle to the temple, his use of angles and much more.

That's exactly what I thought looking at this. He looks like a Kenpo guy and uses Kenpo language.

I think the old Okinawa legend of the Chinese Monk who washed up a shore after a storm in the small fishing village of Okinawa and traded culture, spiritualities, wisdom and fighting styles with the humble villager, might actually have some truth to it. Maybe he even continued his journey south through the Philippines and Burmese, before returning home to China.

Great thing about all martial arts, you can find something that you feel works for you. They block a lot, he says. My system doesn't block at all, of course I enjoy a plethora of counter offensive attacks rather than blocking. Depends on your mindset as too what works best for you. Nothing works unless your skilled and good at it, then anything works.

If you notice,, these blocks are strikes. They are offensive. Thats the great thing about it. Very aggressive fighting art.

The blocks are strikes in San Soo - hitting the radial nerve and other points. Also, there are many San Soo techniques that don't block but require better timing and speed - typically performed in later ranks.
