Instantly a classic, absolutely outstanding track. The melodies are amazing, love the harmonies, drums, piano and bass, too. The guitar and violin alternating the lead melody are great. Iconic Koguchi track.
By far my favorite boss theme from the ones we've heard. Hopefully this is only the beginning of more Koguchi boss themes, can't wait to see what he'll deliver on Ys X!
Yes! I actually think I like Koguchi more than Unisuga....to me, Koguchi is following in his footsteps and between his stuff in Kuro and this game, I'm really digging it. He can't be replaced, but Koguchi blew me away with the Marchen Garten command battle theme. I'm too passionate about this franchise so this will get too long if I don't end it LOL. Basically, I honestly feel like the emotion in this moment (similarly to the Gauran boss fight) with this track reminded me of stuff like Blue Destination. The guitar isn't the *best*, but I'm not going to stoop to the level of people that "criticize" Singa's tracks and let that affect my enjoyment of a clear banger. There's no need to nitpick like they do lmao
FUCJ UES UOOOHHHHH I LOVE THIS SONG KOGUCHI I FUCKING KNEELLLLLL Koguchi is going to become my favourite Falcom composer ever at this rate. I want to see the Ys stuff he puts out before I make that opinion solid, but I seriously wouldn't be shocked if he puts out more masterpieces like this. This is so exactly what I want in a boss theme fuck. Koguchi has that star quality where he has the capability to excel at any type of music. His battle themes have been getting better extremely fast. He's had the jazzy stuff and more chilled out area themes fucking NAILED from the start. He can do the big centerpiece emotional stuff like the credits theme from Kuro 1. He's just so fucking good. PLEASE NIHON FALCOOM! TREAT HIM RIGHT!!!! TREAT YOUR LAST HOPE WITH RESPECT
Holy SOUL Koguchi really does know his jazz classics. He has to love Joe Hisaishi to reference almost the entire progression of the main theme from Howl's Moving Castle
You could say he could be the next crow armburst-leveled boss ever since there was one for Loewe. Only more of he has been on the enemy side since the start. I'm honestly really looking forward to delving into seeing what elroy's abilities are.
Well okay, literally 5 minutes after I made a comment about how Singa was the only one so far making rock-style music for Kuro 2, this comes up. If this is Koguchi's first (published, at least) attempt at that genre, I think we can expect very good things in the future.
My headcanon (which will not yield to any amount of words) is that this banger (100% number 1 track of the past ten years) is not intended for the Garden Master. It's dedicated to the Four Survivors of the Garden, playing when their future is on the line and their will to fight is unshakable. Why? Because it plays during 3&9's desperate fights to take back their imouto or family, and the last time it is going is during E x E (Double E's) boss fight where they will either pass their final exam against fucking impossible odds or be sacrifices for whatever Ellroy has in mind. Even if all four are completely different in so many ways, even if all four have different ways of living and fighting, even if both pairs face different directions and end in completely different sides of the Underworld, they were raised in the Garden. They became sinners instead of victims, and they survived against all comers because they lived by their choices: Kill or be killed, obey or die, be free or be a slave. Often awful terrible choices where everything was awful - but still choices nonetheless. And because the pairs will live and die together by their choices, this boss theme is intense, fast, and resounding with the desperation and recklessness of kids who have lived their lives close to death all their lives - and who struggle on to live on one more day with their family.
I didn’t enjoy the game that much, but damn it I cannot get this tune out of my head. The best boss theme I have heard in a long while, probably since Exceed!
Wasnt sure if you were being serious about a new YS game. But it would be interesting to see more of him. It would definitely give singa a break to polish his themes. Since falcom is really going on the cheaper side.
@@xedron5897 don't have a link personally but therr's a concept art of Ys X out already also news of the game undergoing a "gameplay change" that Ys usually take after a while
I was disappointed Koguchi didn't get to show off what he could do with a boss theme in Kuro 1, so hearing he did in 2 got me excited. And the track delivers in full! Great composition, and I love the choice of instruments throughout. The production could still use some work... But that's a minor gripe from me here. Might honestly beat out Solid-State for my favorite boss theme thus far in the game.
Finally another boss theme that isn't Singa. Mixing could be better but damn, I love the melody. Give me more Koguchi battle themes please, his style is exactly my jam.
@@seymourflux747 Koguchi singlehandedly providing us all hope for at least a partially great falcom ost (aside from like, the 5 Jindo songs we get every year lol). This song bangs so hard.
Please Falcom don't cut corners save the OST give you official members more tracks or ALL tracks I don't dislike all singa tracks I actually love a lot of them but one thing we can agree on his instruments are just pain in the ears at this point My point is this track has more quality to it even if it's not as catchy as other tracks
Genuinely having trouble telling who the composer for this might be. The percussion suggests Koguchi so that's my best guess. I can sort of see Jindo but this feels below his usual quality. Either way, very solid boss theme! Sort of wish the mixing was a bit better, but otherwise this is pretty good. Quick edit but upon a couple of relistens it's very clearly Koguchi yeah. I wasn't used to him doing this style of track so I had considered that it might be an Unisuga leftover or Jindo using solely digital instruments. The composition of this track is really addictive, if Koguchi continues to improve even more I can only imagine how good he'll get.
It’s strange that they wanted to progress the story, but not by much. But that’s also a common thing I see in other medium when it comes to trilogy stories that struggle to progress the story they wanna tell.
