She has one of the best female rock vocals ever. Raw. Emotional. Real. Live. Powerful. Sweet. Sour. Angry. Broken. Bitter. Its perfect and for the non agreed an opinion on it is fine for balanced dualism. Her entire presence is a female version of kurt. They were two peas in a pod. She has more respect for risk taking and improvising.
@@HGZMO Courtney has one of best female rock vocals? I suppose you never hear Kat Bjelland before. She’s everything Courtney wishes she was and stole everything she could get from her, including her hair and dress style.
@@Factory_Muff I will say, I dig the both of them. I listened to and had my copy of the babes in toy land record and loved it. 94-96ish is when I was a kid and fan. I also got to see L7 in 96 at the Roxy in Atlanta and was blown away by the entire band and power of the beauty process album and tour. They opened for the offspring and won the evening, even though I was not expecting them to go in so hard and rIval the great things that made up the SMASH album and set list.
@@Factory_Muff oh piss off, Kat wishes she was half as charismatic as Courtney. Courtney took her look from the film what ever happened to baby Jane? Courtney did it better.
Nobody said Hole was a bad band it’s more about Her Personality and the way she treated people you should hear what she said about Eric‘s ex girlfriend Kristen Pfaff after she died
Natalie 1982 “Rockstar” also known as “Olympia” is actually about the riot grrrls in Olympia, WA. not about kurt. not everything courtney writes is about kurt.
Babe her voice is awful here! 😂 It’s raspy as hell from her lifestyle & prob very tired. She can make it work when prepared of course, but this is the worst I’ve ever heard it lol. And she can sing. This ain’t it!
Chris White the pettiness. People are really gonna make a conspiracy theory out of this? 🙄 unbelievable. This happened. If you don’t think that’s Kurt....I’m so confused
A lot of people have commented about Kurt singing badly. Anyone that knows Nirvana, knows that Kurt intentionally sang that way. Of course it would have sounded more pleasing if he had sang these songs like he did in the MTV Unplugged, but Kurt wasn't about wanting to please people that way.
his improvised background melody in "where did you sleep last night" proves how amazingly talented this guy was. he could write a pop hit just by humming over any riff...
Kurt scream/singing “shivvvvaah for me” DAMN. I’ve always loved his ledbelly cover but this one is the tops, just such a special recording. Stop killing it w/ crappy comments if you’re true fans.
@@spookthewhitewolf1484I wonder if Courtney has Singer's Nodes on her vocal cords too like I do cuz she sounds just like I do at the end of the nite. Total raspiness!! I love it! ❤
You know, I believe that you can't help who you fall in love with. I think they fell in love, but they just didn't fit. If kurt had stuck around more, maybe they would have found that out and gone their separate ways. People fall in and out of love. I don't think that courtney 'ruined' him, I just think they both and many problems on their own and that didn't help. Again, you can't help who you fall in love with.
This comment needs to have more attention lmao no matter how controversial Courtney is, she is still the one Kurt fell in love with, married, and had a kid. All we could do is to respect her. She might not be likeable to others, but yeah, you can't help who you fall in love with.
cristina sau Her first album was labeled heavy punk. In fact she was punk all the way! Then she met Kurt and he wrote her second album. She quoted she wanted a album with a softer edge and be a success like Nevermind and maybe go mainstream. Was it a coincidence that the king of grunge married the queen of grunge or was it that Courtney became the queen of grunge after she married Kurt? I don't think I have to answer that question. The whole thing is confusing to me because in the ''Courtney's the best fuck in the world video'' Kurt told everyone that ''Hole was a ''Pop'' band.Plus Courtney can't sing without going out of key horribly and that is only acceptable if you are in a ''Punk'' genre. Back in the old days before she met Kurt her singing was like she was entering a who can scream the loudest and give me a head ache competition.
Darren Kellman I don't believe that for a second and never do a lot of people. Kurt would of done anything. to help her succeed. Plus it sounds to much l like Nirvana. She also had access to all of his unrecorded songs and half finished songs and lyrics after she had him murdered.
Say whatever you want about Courtney, but she does have the most incredible voice I've ever heard from a woman, I really do think their voices do go well together.
Yeah it was never her music ability that was questioned. She was Faith No More royalty afterall. She just seemed to not know who or what she was. She let what was popular determine her look and sound. And that violated everything punk rockers and Nirvana true fans stood for. Be yourself or nothing at all could have been the message of the grunge scene. She was not that.
I've seen so many people debate the Kurt/Courtney thing, but I lived through this (no pun intended) whole affair, I was 13 when Kurt died, I wasn't a fan of Nirvana's then, but I watched MTV 24/7 in those days and when they were released I read Kurt's journals and started to identify with him. The impression of Kurt I get was one of a man who had many issues, but the most predominant one toward the end was his sense of being a failure as a father and a husband. His battle with Heroin was legendary and I've been through that battle. Despite what we feel, He loved Courtney. He loved his daughter and couldn't deal with the combined pressures of being a father, husband, rock idol, and heroin addict. When you are a junkie, all it takes is a bad day and a fistful of drugs to make you do something really stupid, selfish and tragic. That being said, Love you Kurt, Rest in Peace
Very well said, it was the COMBINED pressure of it all that made him do it. Being tired of Nirvana, the fame, probably felt like a failure as a father, wanted out of the marriage and fed up with all the "you gotta quit the drugs now, or else" shit he got from everybody. I'm glad you made it through your own battle!! I was adicted to OxyContin, Methadone, Codeine etc, but have been clean for 5 years.
I agree with the rest, but "stupid and selfish"? This is for anybody reading. If Kurt was mentally ill, he can't be faulted for his symptoms. Nobody Doesn't desire an end to psychological pain. When pain can't be escaped, especially as a youth, it cripples development until it's treated. Onlookers whitewash it saying these people are weak without being honest with their own reasons for being critical. After all, blaming the victim helps people *ignore* harsh realities. Are accusers, then, hiding pain they ignore because they're "too weak" to toughen up, and thus project onto people who's struggles are more visible? It doesn't help you or anyone. Suicidal or not, if you're hurt, accept it and talk to a specialist.
Seriously, can you imagine the raging voices/volatility these two must have had during disagreements that got out of control? Wildness.. 'Nuff of that: this is a precious piece of something both horrible and beautiful... I respect them both no matter certain bad choices.. we are all guilty in some way so no judgment from me.
I actually love this. They were so in love. But sadly, because they both had issues, they stimulated each other's druguse. And it resulted in Kurt's downfall and Courtney's redemption.
I wish Kurt would have sang on this like he did on the nirvana mtv unplugged. But I love their voices together on where did you sleep last night. I love them both just amazing, they were so cute to each other.
They werent cute together. They was a disaster together. He said she was just a good f**k , in his diary. They wasnt good for eachother. Drug takings,. Drinking, it was a mockery of theyr marriage. Theyr love for each other may av been real but it was wrong n he suffered for it while she is living it large n he is ashes! Thats not cute!
i've never seen where Kurt and Courtney began and the other ended, to see otherwise is baffling. They were clearly soulmates, parents, lovers, friends and confidants on every level.
+Jason Meza Probably simply because it was a Nirvana event--she probably wouldn't have done it even if he'd asked her. A lot of people seem to gloss over the fact that Hole was covering this song years before Nirvana did.
Deadbird I didnt know that. Not really a huge Hole fan. I can see that Courtney has some talent but I feel a bit of a yoko vibe with her. Lol. I dont think She would have been a success without knowing Kurt. Just my opinion though.
+Jason Meza Before she met Kurt, Hole's album was produced by Kim Gordon (one of Kurt's favorite artists from Sonic Youth), she was also in the movie "Sid & Nancy". She knows how to get what she wants, she "sweats ambition" like Kurt said.
Kurt and Courtney could’ve left hole and Nirvana and been just as popular with doing just this their entire careers. Because that’s how talented both of these 2 superstars are. It’s sad we didn’t get more of this.
I would never mean cellphones... HOW could you think anyone would go by asking about filming with cellphones. I'm talking about Film Cameras. If they didn't film this, then they didn't film this. But PLEASE forgive me if I seam like I'm lashing out at you, you don't seam like you're being a Smart As to me. ;) And yes is it really nice audio. lol
Well I was more saying it's from a random rape benefit show, nothing that be televised. Only reason we got so many concert videos now is cause of cell phones. Although many would have a problem matching the cleanness of the audio on this. Definitely rather have clean audio.
I'm glad you did. Courtney is an obvious talent, as one can hear in this duo. She has more power in her voice than he does (at times) and she has balls, in a metaphorical sense.
me too. I loved all of the music they were both putting out at that time. I wish they had done a little bit more collaborating. Thanks for posting this! Dean
Wow, this brings tears to my eyes. The performance is so real, there is very little music out there these days that can capture this emotion. Courtney and Kurt's voices are captivating. Thank you for posting!!!
i feel so bad for courtney. people laugh at her for being a wreck though her constant battle with drug addiction is to blame and not to mention her “killing kurt”. how horrible do you have to be to even say that, and how horrible does she feel for getting told that constantly? she’s such a broken soul from her past, but people are just so ignorant to not even know that.
Boloney. She was a user. Plain and simple. People merely called her on her shit, and she build a reputation she can’t escape. All you have to do is look at the greed she showed after Kurt’s death in regards to the Nirvana brand, and Dave and Chris. There was even talk of Kurt divorcing Courtney shortly before his death. Lots of of people grow up living through trauma. Without help and guidance they’ll likely struggling with it their whole lives, but they are still responsible for their actions and behavior. Many people have chosen to end the circle of abuse. Courtney did not.
I really wish they'd recorded an album together because their voices fit perfectly. Nevertheless, Courtney sounds better than Kurt here. He's clearly too high and off key which is a real shame.
I thought it was obvious that it was Courtney's wrong doings here? All the songs are sped up and each time Courtney shouts it throws Kurt off key and he cant change his tone to fit hers since she generally has a higher voice.
If you like Courtney then watch the movie " Hit so hard ". It's about holes drummer. That documentary shows just what a low life heartless bitch she is. It's on Netflix.
it just comes with adjusting the key so a man and woman can sing at the same time. If they did it in the key kurt likes to sing she would have sounded off.
Who else remembers reading about this in Spin Magazine in 1994? I cut this picture out of the magazine and kept it for years. I always wished I could been there to hear it. And here we are. Someone actually caught the audio. I can't believe it.
Totally vibed out to this beautiful rare recording, I've never heard before. It's really helping me get through a breakup with a man I kinda view as my Kurt. This is love though. Kurt and Courtney...love is chaotic and misunderstood. Pure art and passion 💔❤
+Bergan's Beats he fucking nailed the background melody improvising it on the go. thank god he gave us this version of where did you sleep last night. what an amazing talent.
As a fan, I saw them as perfectly imperfect in a time where everything was suppose to be perfect. The media butchered their relationship for those who were aware and grew up in that time in history.
I like this a lot. I think Kurt enjoyed this a lot, he said in several interviews he enjoyed a lot playing with Courtney. They love each other people, accept that and stop messing with their lifes. Enjoy their music!!!
I'm in love with this. My unpopular opinion is that they both loved each other so much but being that they both battled with drugs... It made it hard to love each other at times. R.I.P Kurt, the world will always miss you
Sorry to crush your "unpopular opinion" here but. I Believe it was early 1994 Kurt locked himself in a bathroom because Courtney was considering having an Afair because they would constantly argue and they weren't good together anymore. The song You Know You're right Is about Courtney and how Kurt Is upset with her and is angry. I strongly believe she pushed him towards suicide with some of her toxic behavior and the way she treated him. Kurt only started doing Heroin hard after the release of Nevermind in 1991 He didn't really enjoy the fame after he got a taste of it, There are interviews before he was doing drugs where you can tell he's positive and happy. And the ones where he's using he is mostly negative and doesn't appreciate the interviewer and is just sad he looks empty.
@@nel9107 eh I wrote this 7 months ago I knew a lot less then. He wasn’t always depressed. Before 1991 you can listen to this radio interview from 1990 that honestly shows proof of him being happy.
can people just enjoy the music and stop lay blaming kurts death legit ruining the music with all your conspiracy theories unless you knew them personally and were there, s t f uuuupppp
I thought he was spot on. Really appreciate it. Not sure if it's Dave on the studio version, but I just realized it's the element I dislike most about it.
Amazing, chills in hands, touches.. first time hearing.. there is hope in relationships though they seem difficult, their family seems difficult and yet here they are drinking tea.. at their own key.. like a mirror between those two.. makes think about own life and relationships.. the other isn't bad.. it may be a reflection of your dark spots.. the sleep last night goes well with the Imaginary Western cover- a guy on a horse in a sunset with and old oak in a dessert.. i wish the best for them.. weather lake of fire or heaven..
Uh, his mic was turned up. Courtney actually has a more powerful voice than Kurt, especially when it comes to screaming and howling - which Kurt wasn't really known for. Kurt had more of a screech than a scream. Kurt has the better singing voice, though. :)
