Just look at whats trending right now... distressed, ripped, patchwork and dirty vintage denim is everywhere To me personally Kurt is a huge inspiration to this day, def. a leader of a whole clothing genre/style
Great topic my bro! Was hoping you would include a pic of his fit from the MTV Unplugged performance and you did! One of the greatest frontmen of all time.
I’d say Michael Jordan, Tupac, Biggie and Kurt were the big people and influencers and pop culture/sub cultures of the 90s. With WuTang as an honorable mention.
Hi Joshua! Great vid. As you said, you're a big fan of Nirvana so am I, it'd be super awesome if you'd make a whole video on grunge/and 90s *fashion* covering multiple shoe choices, cardigans, jackets (the ones Kurt always used to go for) just to see and hear your perspective on it as you really seem to know your stuff! :)
@@wheres_galdo Please do as I'm sure there plenty of people besides me who'd be interested and grunge is back again as far as clothing goes. Cool stuff really and so unique imo !
Hi Josh. Bata is very popular in Malaysia (where I am from 😊). Bata had a sale of the shoes as in your video a few years back (for a limited quantity). People queued up as early as 5 am to get it. All of the shoes was sold in a few hours. Great video. Keep it up... 👍
Bata brand is so popular at malaysia. From school boys to shoe go for to work, its cheap and comfort. still got some pair from bata malaysia you can get at malaysia bata. Or you can get from reseller from malaysia. Its cheaper for yoy guys from U.S. this shoes is so iconic. I guess why kurt wear bata and converse because its cheaper and good guality. But sadly converse not affordable. Lucky at malaysia got many thrift store.
Bata shoe stores were big in Canada back in the '80s - '90s. I notice he wore these in Montreal when he played at Foufounes Electriques and I wonder if maybe he bought them there.
I thought he wore Converse😀. Wearing 2 shirts, layers, blue jeans ripped with holes in them. I don’t know if Kurt started all that but he definitely made it popular. Great vid!
you probably already know it but i think you’d love the aw03 Touch Me I’m Sick collection by takahiro miyashita, whole collection is centered on grunge/kurt cobain
hell no I absolutely love that collection! Much less known than it deserves. I always love when music and fashion intersect. It always makes for such unique representations of subculture
everyone has that little epiphany where they go listen to songs other than teen spirit and end up loving the band, happened to me. suprisingly enough nirvanas still relevant today :D
We have Bata here in Philippines. Love these shoes, Kurt/Nirvana, grunge music/fashion and this vid. 👌👌👌 I actually found thid vid informative voz I thought he was wearing Converse not Bata. 🤣
Perth Guts I’m well aware that they did not create the grunge movement as I said in the video. The replacements were definitely the forefathers however nirvana definitely were more impactful on pop culture as a whole.
@@wheres_galdo Yep I agree they had a much bigger reach, but lets not pretend that Kurt Cobain was the first frontman to wear a dress onstage or dress to counterculture every literal aspect of Cobains style as a performer from the music to the image was influenced/lifted from Westerbergs playbook.
Great topic and great video. Bata closed down all the shops in France (2016 or 2017 I think). It was very famous in France, they used to sell their own brand and also were multibrands shop. For the Kurt Cobain part, you make me want to discover more about him as I didn't really listen to his songs 😉
Hugo Portillo Kurt cobain is definitely a fun one to learn about because he was so controversial! And that’s crazy, from what I could see bata seemed to be a solid company. I wonder what the real reason was as to why they didn’t try to be a presence in the American market 🤔
@@wheres_galdo In France, they closed down because there was a way too much competition on the market. It was a moment where the shoe market has exploded.
Its better than all the van clones people be wearing the same freaking shoe here in America. Like all these young kids guy and girls wearing the black and white Van's smh no style or originality.... I had a pair of these Van's when I was in high school and like no one even wore Van's except skaters. I'm not a skater but I'm flat footed.
