First part of Kurt Elling's gig with the trio and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Piano: Laurence Hobgood Bass: Rob Amster Drums: Kobie Watkins Conductor: Benjamin Northey
Next Friday I'll be at Freight & Salvage, in Berkeley, CA to see Kurt in concert there. This will be the fourth time I've seen him live. A musical thrill every time. But I sure miss Laurence Hobgood.
@@dianereed2315 I first heard Kurt sing at a mixer at the Div school at U. of Chicago in Hyde Park, he was a housemate one summer and fellow student. We were all eating cheese and crackers and sipping wine from little plastic cups, and one of our professors was playing the piano and Kurt took the mike and started doing scat, I was blown away, like, where'd that come from? He was incredibly gifted then, and after all these years, what a beautiful legacy he has created for us all, Thanks Kurt!! You are an amazing talent!!
What a stunning performance! One of the few bright spots about COVID19 is cruising on youtube and finding hidden gems like this. Let us all hope that when this pestilence passes (soon PLEASE) we can all go out and enjoy a great meal and see a great concert.....
He's coming to Sarasota in two weeks and I couldn't be more excited. I've seen him 4 times and have said out loud, 'if I die right now, I'd be completely satisfied'. What a voice! Foolish heart is one of my faves, as is his version of Simon & Garfunkel's American Tune.
This guy right here! He can swing--- even with an orchestra behind him! He's reminding me so much of my favorite jazz singer Mark Murphy ( rest in peace) You got next, Kurt--- do your thing, brother!
My Foolish Heart really shows the majesty of this vocal range and his amazing talent. A real Class Act and the epitome of a consummate performer in every aspect of the word. I never tire of his voice!
Mr. Hobgood tearing it up on that solo! May every generation have a Kurt Elling to remind us of the beauty of vocal jazz and the marvelous history of American jazz. What a gift he has given us. Genius.
Oh my goodness, the pianist is so wonderful, inspiring, amazing overall musicality including of course Mr. Kurt Elling rendition of the song My Foolish Heart. I can listen to this forever...just plain lovely!
Really appreciate the share, always enjoyed the finale from this set for years now. I feel somewhat for the Conductor who introduced Kurt, a slight faux pas mentioning Grammy wins when they were nominations at the time, I don't think he'd mind too much, enjoying the prestigious opportunity to conduct and play with so many sublimely talented people is the stuff dreams are made of. Awesome share André, obrigado!
I'm watching this program video again and Mr. Kurt Elling's voice is so magical to listen to, the way he holds his breath and the intense feeling to the music is simply incredible, wow! I am enthralled, I'm enjoying it so much!
Wow! I never saw this part of the concert before! I'm really missing live music these days. What a treat, André! You've made quarantine so much easier to take. Thank you sooo much for posting this gem. It is classic Kurt with Laurence, the late great Rob and Kobe. Stay safe.
I really love this concert. Probably top three of live concerts I have watched, period. I believe this is the peak of Kurt's career. Kobie was a delight. This was the first time I had heard of him and seen him play. A rare talent.
This music is so... unique, wonderful, creative, warm, sophisticated... and much more 😍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🤗 and sometimes it reminds me at the one and only Frank Sinatra...
S U P E R -- thank you for posting it. Kurt is really great, my favorite voice. Jazz trio collaborating with Symphony Orchestra -- wow! Bravo from Moscow, R U S S I A
@@icarusflying1814 Classical music audiences are encouraged not to applaud during the performance. They wouldn’t have applauded til the end of each song being a Sydney Symphony concert.
Hey André, you are the man! Would you happen to please have any other concerts of Kurt's?, such as the ABC recording with the Melbourne Symphony or at Bennett's Lane? Would be happy to share some of my collection in exchange. Cheers!
Unfortunately, this is all I have from Kurt. Believe me, it was hard to come by and I spent quite some money on software in the day in order to be able to download it from BigPond. They should release this officially and in good quality.
Kurt now has *2 Grammy awards* (only 1 at the time of this amazing concert). Not 7 grammys as he was introduced, mind you he does have 14 nominations!! 😉
