Breathtaking. Such an idiosyncratic, unique voice. The level of risk in his playing is other level...comping, voicings, use of open strings...unreal. Great flow on his lines too, so unpredictable. Total intimacy with the instrument...flawless
This is a new level....Kurt plays his language at such a high level of originality. always...fresh and creative. Really stunning AND soulful. Thank you Kurt
..wow, Kurt is out of control, he has set the bar so high for other players, pushing us to work harder towards our goals...my teacher before Berklee back in high school, Jack Hotop, was always pushing his students too, practice every day, try to listen to the masters, from Segovia to Montgomery, Martino and Pass, and he knew about Clapton and Hendrix too mind you..and do it seriously..I wish he could have heard this performance by Kurt, I think he would have really enjoyed it..this is the kind of kick in this ass to get you thinking and working harder..monumental must listening..New York September 10, 2020..
I Think His way of playing at the end is a kind of inspiration of Rene Thomas's version ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_YxI4-mpYpc.html&ab_channel=Ren%C3%A9Thomas-Topic
Absolutely spectacular. I can't say enough good things about Kurt. Just found him last night and I'm absolutely blown away. I didn't know there was more than one Allan Holdsworth!!
Cada vez que escucho a Rosenwinkel me pregunto de dónde viene ese sonido peculiarísimo, precioso, incomparable. Del trabajo, del genio, de la persistencia.
This version, and the one here by Pasquale Grasso are very different. But both are mind-blowing. Not to mention beautiful versions Monk would have loved.
He uses a pog pedal to shave off the attack and a compressor after to shorten the delay time from his picking to the sound. There are some videos of him describing it
Thanks, guys! I’m usually pretty good at analyzing effects but that is super subtle. I thought it was more technique. Like a really accurate simultaneous pick/hammer on.
it sounds like engaged octaver plus some sort of attack suppressor like SG-1 or some sort. Very special tone but it is not clean guitar tone there is some fx in it.
Muito bom lhe ouvir tocar meu querido ! Sucesso sempre e , precisa vir à Salvador -Bahia ... Vou Tentar viabilizar isso como fiz com o Richard Bona. Fica com Deus
@@jazzapv Sorry, I was thinking of another Paul Motion Album, Monk in Motion. I had forgotten he was in the Electric Bebop Band with Wolfgang Muthspiel.Thank you for pointing out my error.
Kurt's version of Round Midnight is covering a lot of material - chord melody, voice leading, counterpoint, improvisation, call and response etc. Yeap, you could say, it is an solo guitar performance + chord melody. You got it right.
Books by jazz guitarist Martin Taylor, Joe Pass, Jimmy Wyble - I suggest getting books by Martin Taylor and finding a teacher in a location where you live. I hope it helps.@@freshlumpia8202
@gilibertopaparauchas5959 his boss oc-2 (or oc-3, i forget which one) has a threshold setting internally that you can change to only turn the octave on below a certain pitch. pretty fun
Nah it's an SG200. The 2000 is much fancier looking with a carved top, split inlays & gold hardware. SG200 can still be obtained for fairly modest money.
Hi Rob, You are absolutely right. The engagement from students have been minimal - honestly. But there were few brave participants and they were awesome:) I see two reasons: 1) We are a new independent, noncommercial platform and perhaps students will require more credibility on our end. 2) Playing a solo performance on your instrument is very challenging and recording it is also time-consuming - quite a long term project. BUT whoever is thinking of jumping on this challenge, please join anytime 2021/2022. Either way, with or without recording, I appreciate your comment. Good luck Rob. Peter
@@jazzstudentculture5398 I found a possible third reason. Watching someone like Rosenvinkel making such an amazingly beautiful and technically incredible performance is bound to shy away any student. It did to me. Kurt was showing his awesome chops. Not really coming down to Earth to teach you anything really. That's why.
When I attended masterclass for 2 weeks with him he had the clean tone from a Twin, and he used a digital emulation with the Fractal with several presets of "synth-like" sounds, using the Hog2
