Anyone who critiques these boards on the basis of their out-of-the-box sounds is missing the biggest advantage that Kurzweils have over all of the competition: their programming options, that literally give the user an endless supply of customization options. Sure, there's a bit of a learning curve in mastering their V.A.S.T. protocol, but once you start dabbling in it you will never look back. That Hammond B3 (and especially Leslie effect) from the factory is so easily improved by going inside the program and modifying it--to the point that I have mine sounding better than any dedicated clonewheel out there right now--and without needing a Neo Vent or any other auxiliary effects box.
The rotary effect on the Kurzweils is just perfect (some tweaking needed). The Kx000 and PCx series are the only workstations capable of perfectly emulating the Pink Floyd's Echoes piano sound (which is essential for the show I play at). I've ordered a PC4 to replace my PC3.
@@MotownRockinroller I'll take the risk. If I can deal with it for the 2 hours that the show lasts, I'll keep it. To play at home and practise I already have a Kawai piano.
This appears to be a superb product. But I don't see any point why I should buy it, except for the choir sound which is really outstanding (to me). My EX5 still works fine, and an old Motif ES is still on the "Want List". This is the same situation as 20 years before - there are great synths available, and they are and sound mostly the same.
@@samiam9059 I agree with you. The PC4 design is nice and functional and does not have to be artsy to make it "cool". If anything, I would change placement of Transpose buttons (move them away from the wheels) and Variation button (move it closer to keyboard).
I do not own a PC4 (yet) but just by looking at it it seems the wheels are way too high and far (I'm a thumb user rather than a index and middle finger regarding wheels) the transpose buttons are to close to the wheels and they should be octave +/- rather than semitone; Variation should be underneath the Volume along the other controller buttons and there should be enough space between the keyboard and the screen to fit the ribbon controller properly.
@@davcar23 Depends on what you mostly play but it is an absolute beast for the money and I say this owning a Kronos 88, Integra 7, Wavestate and waldorf, yamaha and so many other deep architecture boards. Owned a PC 3 76 years ago and always had wished never sold it. Will not be disappointed...
My only problem with this demo is that it's too short! I'm in the market for a new workstation, and checking Montage and Fantom with all their bells and whistles, this is a true sleeper. With a bigger screen and newer/better drum and guitar sounds, I'd definitely go for it.
Anyone who owns a Kurzweil synth probably already heard over half of these sounds. I wish they'd have delved a little deeper into the new stuff, like the 6 OP FM and whatnot. A lot of these sounds are just recycled from decades old Kurzweil keyboards.
Most of them sound like re-hashed to me, as I have Kurzweil PC88mx from 1997 and it is just Awesome....only 64 sounds...but they cover a lot territory sonically plus the ability to layer 4 sounds together on the fly...Why pay 4-5k for something that's difficult program...Just Sayin'😇😇😇
insomma... più che un synth sembra un rompler. Mi ricorda la Motif XS8/Tyros5.... Non riconosco più il caratteristico suono Kurzweil. DELUSION. E poi le due wheels la sopra.... fanno veramente incazzare.
Felix The Cat Everything on the division bell was, other albums were before kurzweil’s time. But yeah, there’s definitely a good reason that everyone associated with Pink Floyd and solo acts has used Kurzweils!
Es realmente lamentable la pobreza de los tutoriales que entrega Kurzweil. El funcionamiento del PC4 no es sencillo de entender, y la marca no se molestó en presentar tutoriales completos, más allá de un manual (que se baja de internet) y que provee poco y nada. El instrumento suena bien, pero lamento haberlo adquirido. Los demos que produce Kurzweil tienen como única finalidad vender o promocionar el producto. No son tutoriales. Por lo menos deberían tener la dignidad de poner al frente del demo un tecladista competente.
