It's like comparing apples and oranges, they can both make pretty much any sound possible, but the kurzweil has far greater programming abilities, things that the Nord just can't do, and Nord stages are twice the money, and I'm not seeing(or hearing) why that is, is it because it's red? 😅
I was really reluctant as I have used Nords for 10 years and never tried a Kurz, but now I can see than for half the price I can get much edition capabilities, at least same for not saying superior piano sounds and much better orchestral patches. The only thing I miss on the Kurz are Farfisa and more Mellotron sounds
Would have been more relevant to have included a current NORD stage piano. The PC4 sound is my personal preference but I'm sure others will like the Stage 3.
Actually on stage, in my own opinion, I like the kurzweil piano sound. It cuts through and has a thick heavy sound. My nord stage 3 also did a great job in terms of dynamic keyboard sensitivity.
I was fanatic of Nord until now, cause I couldn't hear comparison of Nord vs Kurzweil directly. But after I heard this upload, I became Kurzweil fanatic. Kurzweil piano sounds natually than artificial Nord.
Looking forward to the V.A.S.T. architecture, with anticipation and FEAR! :) and VAST sound designers out there? (I'm very experienced in subtractive and FM) Hoping this will be a good foundation for the almost modular approach of VAST.

It's nice to hear both keyboards, but as far as comparing, I don't feel the patch selections were enough alike. For example there are many different EP's and it didn't seem like the ones selected were that much alike. Same with the clavs. As someone else said, both will make about any sound you want, but you might have to do a little editing to get it dialed in.
I like the Kurzweil Pc4 keybed than Nord stage 3. For me, Kurzweil Pc4 has better action, but Nord is easier to tweak even on the fly which Kurzweil needs to be programmed property. Kurzweil has too many tweaking capabilities that sometimes you need to learn the basic functions and names of settings. I just don't like the Kurzweil acoustic guitar sound, I don't like Nords saxophone sound and especially arpeggiator, too simple.
@@dmcoverage Great. If the action is better than the Nord Stage's one, I'm in. I'm familiar with the VAST synthesis engine so programming any sound on it is not a problem. Thank you!
@@Synth_Tools If you can check some music store that has PC4 and NS3 would be better because every pianist/keyboardist player has differences standards on which kebed they prefer. Ive been using Kawai, Casio px5s,yamaha,Roland and Korg before. The best keybed for me is 1st-Kawai 2nd is Kurzweil PC4 3rd is Casio PX5s and 4th will be Nord Stage 3.The best combination of keybed and sound while playing was the Kawai MP7 and 11
It is. Unless your are in a top of 0,0001% and you want to have Nord. Kurzweil interface is more complicated but still! Nord is way overpriced. And Kurzweil PC4 is more of a workstation.
For me, the Stage3 beat PC4 in each sound comparison by FAR. Interesting how leader of the 90s ends up now,...after YoungChang bankruptcy in '98, Kurzweil seems stunted..
The sound quality of kurzweil pc4 is phenomenal. The only downside is changing combi has abnormal cut sound and it's not seemless transition. Other stuff are really solid and would say, better than nord.
I am a solo acoustic piano performer. Performed on the best and the worse pianos for the last 40 years. I need a digital at home (apartment) to practice with headphones for love of my neighbors. I have been waiting over 35 years for a great hardware piano that has a "soul" like an acoustic. Software has already done it, but I won't play a computer. I just bought a PC4 but hasn't arrived yet, so we shall see. In your video both pianos seem to have the long decay rates missing in all Dpianos. Both still don't sound acoustic, missing that sympathetic resonance, (I know it has been added) but I don't hear it as accurately representing a great 9 foot concert grand. The only other difference is the slightly warmer sound of the PC4 that could be fixed on the Nord with minor EQ. What is important is the evenness (voicing) of the samples across the 88, the length and decay rate of the samples...and....then the communication of the keybed to the sound engine for the perfect connection of velocity and control. There is always the physical action too, but that is minor, I can adapt to just about any action, something I have to do all the time with the many pianos I am forced to play on stage. Good demo video. (I am listening to this video with good linear reference studio monitors)
