Good day. I am confused about the values of Vx and Vo. When I substitute it to the original equation it was not equal to zero. But when i try to solve it i got Vx=14 V and Vo= 7V. I think you just doubled the - on 5i. Thank you for this tutorials. I learn how to solve dependent source :)
How can 5 ohm resistor have negative to positive polarity .... polarity of resistor depends upon direction of current?? Polarity must be from positive to negative
Exactly but if you don't know the direction of current then you can assume and if your are getting a negative value it means you need to reverse the assumption. Moreover in this case the polarity of voltage drop is shown which can be negative or positive according to assumption.
Sir , how can vo be the same across 8ohm as well as 2ohm resistor? According to V=ir , the value of v should defer if the value of current or resistance is changed
But I think it is wrong , Reason for.. When the current interred the positive sine and leave negative sine, the voltage sine can be taken as negative. When the current interred negative sine and leave positive sine, the voltage sine can be taken as positive.
It's just convention. Actual direction of current always depends upon various factors. You may use any convention but you have to be consistent. As I have chosen opposite convention, it does not mean that it's wrong. You are going to get same answer.
For more clear idea about the current flow may be understood by connecting two voltage source in series with different magnitude in opposite directions. Which direction you think current will flow? Did your hypothesis stated above is valid?
