That was so cool. I think even I could do that. I need to get a front door and will be installing a new doorknob and deadbolt. I did get a kick out of how non-chalantly you crumpled up the how to install the door knob instructions and tossed them to the side
i got to say it was pretty easy except for the old kwikset door knob had a slightly smaller hole thru the door than the new one so there was a lot of whittling away and a little hammering to get the new one in the hole.
The instructions make this so much harder. They say to leave the bolts in and twist the ring to catch the bolts in a slot which is damn near impossible. I'm going to try it today with removing the bolts like you did.
@Ryan Agents I would remove the bolts and just line the holes up and screw them in. Much easier then doing that twisting bullshit. Its kind of tricky to get at the bolts with the screw driver but you can use your fingers or pliers to get it mostly in then tork it down with a screw driver.
Great question! This is a kwikset knob. The key used must be a kwikset key. Most importantly, to rekey like I show in the video, you need to purchase or own a “kwikset smart key” knob. Not all kwiksets work like this.
These quit working after about a year. They quit retracting to the reset position. I installed several of them and they need attention after a year or two even with minimal use.
Good video but unfortunately I didn't find what I was looking for. I am having a gard time lining up the internal "screw catches" on these dumb locks. I have installed probably 50 locks in my time and this has to be the dumbest design for a handle I have ever seen. Ugggg..great video though thank you for sharing
