Are you supposed to remove the plastic/rubber thread wrapping on the top 3 threads of a strut assembly before installation? I mean the threads that go up to the engine bay.

That’s actually not true. If a particular part specifically made for a particular vehicles is fine. But if the other vehicle shares the same platform as the ones it’s made for, it will still fit well. Same platform is what counts.
It's not that simple when we're talking about bringing back handling and control to a vehicle with worn components. Fitment and performance are 2 different things. If there's a different engine, larger wheels, etc., then the handling on 2 vehicles made on the same platform will behave wildly different with shocks and struts not tuned for each specific vehicle. Here's an analogy: Bolting on racing slick tires to an offroad vehicle will fit, but that doesn't mean it's the right move for an offroad rally raid. @@kybamericascorp it’s understandable. I will say this, I have a 2015 lifted Scion xB. I’m using a rav4 front suspension. They are both share the same new mc platform. The only difference between the xB2/2.5 and the 3rd/4th gen rav4, is the rav4 is 2.5” taller while it remains the same bolt on. Sure not made for it. But with some spacers to correct it’s suspension’s geometry, it will be back on track. And it acts like an suv/cross.
